Cole Matthew Pelts

Cole Matthew Pelts, infant son of Christopher Kyle Pelts and Athena Joyce Wood, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born Aug. 17, 2008, in Clarksville.

Other survivors include grandparents, Steve and Regina Arbaugh and Jeff and Brenda Wood, all of Clarksville, Randy and Becky Pelts of Russellville and Randy and Bobbie Warren of Oark; and uncles and aunts, Justin Wood, Alex Arbaugh, Chance and Denver Young, Beth Warren, Charles and Michael Walters, Jeremy, Jason and Joseph Pelts, and Andy and Kayla Warren.

Graveside services and burial were at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Minnow Creek cemetery with Rev. Glenn Newton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Justin Wood and Joseph Pelts.

Grace Blackmon

Grace Blackmon, 76, of Heber Springs, formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at the Southridge Village Nursing Center.

She was a native of Natoma, Kan., daughter of the late William and Alice Thrap Clark, widow of Billy Willard, Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son, William Paul Willard; and one sister, Roberta Stokes.

She is survived by seven daughters, Deborah Lyman of Florida, Evelyn Pierce, Linda Hill and Sandra Willard, all of Heber Springs, Mary Willard of Oregon, Rae Jean Stockdale and husband, Gilbert, of Clarksville, and Tammy Lamb of Atwood, Kan.; three sons, Kenneth Willard and wife, Michelle, of Kansas City, Mo., Douglas Blackmon and wife, J'Nevelyn, of Heber Springs, and Ronald E. Blackmon of Colby, Kan.; two sisters, Alice Beach and Leona Sturgis of Independence, Mo.; 27 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Union Grove cemetery west of Clarksville with Rev. Joe Lowery officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Olmstead Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Raymond Hill, Harvey Hill, Walter Hill, Robert Willard, Christopher Willard and Brian Lyman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Artie Pierce, Matthew Stockdale, and Jason Stockdale.

James Woodrow Sisk

James Woodrow (Woody) Sisk, 82, of Bryant, father of Steve Sisk of Clarksville, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008.

He was a native of Blue Eye, Mo., son of the late James Thomas and Flossie Trimble Sisk, attended Blue Eye (Missouri) High School, Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tenn., where he was All-MidSouth in basketball and baseball, and the University of Arkansas where he was a member of the Razorback basketball team. He was a high school football and basketball coach at Berryville from 1947-53 before leaving his coaching career to become national sales manager for Ocoma Foods in Omaha, Neb. from 1957-61 and then a salesman for Arkhola Sand and Gravel Company in Little Rock for 28 years. In addition, he was a part-time baseball scout for the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets. In 1967 he and a friend coached the Arkhola Sand and Gravel Company sponsored American Legion baseball team, which won the state baseball tournament. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; and one brother, Joe Sisk.

Other survivors include one daughter, Mary Jo Bradberry of Little Rock; and one granddaughter, Alison Almefty of Little Rock.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home Chapel in Little Rock with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Jimmie Virginia Mefford

Jimmie V. Mefford, 94, of Clarksville, passed away March 12, 2008, in Southern California. Born to W.J. Worley and Alice Olivia Manning Worley on January 8, 1914 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, she was one of six daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, George E. Mefford; 2 children: Frankie M. Loop and George E. Mefford; 4 grandchildren: Larry A. Loop Sr., Heather Baumann, Perry Clarke, and Jeffery H.M. Long; 3 great-grand children: Ryan M. Walton, Kimberly Long and Spencer Long.

She is survived by 6 children; Mary Jo Coakley, Commerce, Tx; Olson D. Mefford (Patty) Red Bluff, Ca; Faith A. Mefford, San Acacio, Co.; Paul R. Mefford (Carol) San Diego, Ca.; Cari Sue Baumann (Alan) Fayetteville, Ar.

Numerous family and friends in the Johnson County area will miss her, including grandson Kelly R. Loop (Sonya) and family of Russellville, the Don Mefford family of Knoxville, and Sister Sally Ladd of Lamar.

Mrs. Mefford lived in Johnson County for 44 years until shortly before her passing. A devout Christian, she enjoyed gardening and crafts. For a period of time she managed and operated Mefford Ceramics from her home. Her yearly joy came with her entries into the Johnson County Regional Fair, which awarded her countless number of ribbons.

Mrs. Mefford is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grand children and 23 great-great grandchildren.

Laurie Kendrick

Laurie Anne Kendrick, 26, of Cabot, formerly of Knoxville, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock.

She was a native of Little Rock, completed seven years of college which included attending Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas State University at Jonesboro and the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. She received a bachelor of science degree and was owner and operator of a scrapbooking business.. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Don and Kay Criswell.

Survivors include her husband, David Kendrick; parents, Craig and Linda Criswell of Knoxville; one brother, Josh Criswell of Knoxville; maternal grandparents, Bill and Glaydene Gooden of Russellville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilson and Marsha Kendrick of Cabot; seven cousins, Brecken, Carley and Gracen Criswell and Jace Laughlin, all of Dardanelle, and John David, Jenny and Caroline Gooden of Searcy; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at First Baptist Church in London with Rev. Danny Green officiating.

Burial was at East Point cemetery in Russellville under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Lois O. Emond

Lois Osborn Emond, 69, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at her home in Sarah, Miss.

She was a former resident of Clarksville, retired Teledyne Waterpik Corporation employee, member of the Crockett Church of Christ, widow of Harlan Osborn, daughter of the late Harvey Milford and Margaret Helen Scebold Struckmeyer, and was preceded in death by one brother, Gale Struckmeyer.

Survivors include one daughter, Rita Becker of Kaye, Wyo.; two sons, Thomas Osborn of Sarah, Miss., and Dennis Osborn of St. Charles, Ill.; one brother, Donald Struckmeyer of Yuma, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the Chapel of Pate-Jones Funeral Home with Les Carey officiating.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Mt. Vernon cemetery near Clarksville with John Ballard officiating. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Crockett Church of Christ in Senatobia, Miss.

Alice B. Golden

Alice Geneva Bledsoe Golden, 85, of Magnet Cove, whose son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Wayne and Jan Golden, reside in Clarksville, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at St. Joseph Mercy Health Center.

She was a native of Arkadelphia, daughter of the late Thomas Watson and Janie Smothers Bledsoe, member of First Southern Baptist Church of Magnet Cove, retired Magnet Cove High School secretary, and was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Louise Golden; two brothers, Clyde and Lawrence Bledsoe; and one sister, Eunice Melton.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Joe Tilden Golden Jr.; another son, John Wesley Golden and wife, Marie, of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Thomas Roland Bledsoe and wife, Virginia, of Pine Bluff; one sister, Mary Jane Jones of Hot Springs; four grandchildren, Gitane Golden of McKinney, Texas, Melissa Glidden and husband, Jon, of Aubrey, Texas, Beau Golden of Connecticut and Britt Golden of Clarksville; three great-grandchildren, Jonas, Andrea and Daniel Golden; one brother-in-law, Oscar Golden and wife, Betty, of Benton; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Graham and husband, Ewing, of Jonesboro and Janette Melton and husband, Joe, of Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Regency Funeral Home Chapel at Malvern with Oscar Golden and Robert Newton officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia.

Pallbearers were Danny Melton, Jackie Brumbelow, Mark Tatum, Junior Bledsoe, Lewis Bledsoe, and Harvey Shepard.

Memorials may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church of Magnet Cove.

Charles Edward Daniel

Charles Edward Daniel, 74, of Hot Springs Village, died Jan. 1, 2008.

He was a native of Bluffton, son of the late Tom and Viola Daniel, 1971 graduate of the University of the Ozarks where he was a letterman in baseball and basketball, played eight years professional baseball associated with the Detroit Tigers and closed with the Little Rock Travelers in 1961, and retired from Navistar after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rita Blackard Daniel, formerly of the Clarksville/Hartman area; two sons, Dr. Robin Daniel and wife, Lynn, of De Queen, Tad Daniel and wife, Jill, of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Denise Baker and husband, Tim, of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Austin, Nathan, Cameron and Keaton Baker, Hunter and Page Daniel, Jessica Daniel Christianson and husband, Thor, and Anna, Charlie and Melanie Daniel; and one great-granddaughter, Rita Meg Christianson.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Caruth Village Funeral Home with Rev. Burnett King officiating. Internment was in Bluffton cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bryant Kite Memorial Fund, 1927 Churchill Gate Cove, Memphis, TN 38018.
