Mildred F. Carter

Mildred F. Carter, 79, of Ozark died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in the Ozark Nursing Home.

A native of Hartman, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Jack and Myrtle Stepp Johnson, and member of the Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Gibson and husband, Terry, of Fort Smith and Sheila Carter Smith and husband, Bobby, of Ozark; two sons, Harold Thomas and Jerry Thomas, both of Booneville; one sister, Emilee Smith of California; two grandchildren, Brittany Smith of Ozark and Heather Jones of Magazine; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan Jones, Taylor Walker, Hayden Walker, and Braedon Walker.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Hamby officiating. Burial was in Hays Chapel cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dennis Permann, Chris Hunt, Maxie Rofkahr, Josh Gilbert, Leo Stepp, and Tim Jackson.

Marie Cline

Marie Cline, 84, of Ozark, mother of Travis Cline of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Ozark.

She was born in Oklahoma, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodson Eastep, widow of Thelbert T. Cline, and preceded in death by one son.

She is survived by six daughters, Lois Covert of Oskaloosa, Kan., Ruby Sheppard of Bidville, Ruth McCartney, Flois McDonner and Ester Pledger of Ozark, and Betty Richard of Altus; three other sons, Jimmy Cline of Altus, and Rick Cline and Timmy Cline of Ozark; one sister, Veta Mae Williams of Thackerville, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark with Rev. Jan Akins officiating. Burial was at Porter cemetery in Johnson County.

Grandchildren served as active and honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Peachtree Hospice, 4300 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72903 or the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, AR 72207.

Margaret Terrill

Margaret Terrill, 85, of Hartman died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

She was a native of Fernwood, daughter of the late Issac and Thelma Goodin Tipton, widow of Wallace Terrill, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Silas Tipton.

Survivors are two sons, Darrell Terrill and Ray Terrill and wife, Andrea, all of Hartman; three sisters, Nadean Bradley of Clarksville, Laverne Kerr of Hartman, and Louise Mills of Atkins; one brother, J. D. Tipton and wife, Carolyn, of Clarksville; one grandchild, Steven Ray Terrill of Palco, Kan.; and one great-grandchild, Whitney Terrill of Clarksville.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Burial was in Hays Chapel cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Terrill, Greg Rainey, Dustin Rainey, Richard Lee Mills, Brian Tipton and Randy Cowell.

Orlee L. Currier

Orlee L. Currier, 95, of Cave Junction, Ore., died Dec. 15, 2006, at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore. Interment was at Laurel cemetery in Cave Junction, Ore. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cave Junction, Ore., where he attended.

He was a former resident of Lamar where he was instrumental in starting the development called Currier Acres.

He was born in Lansing, Mich., to Orlando and Eugena Currier, was on the high school track team and became a state champion. At 14, he went to work for Michigan Airways, was a stunt pilot and became the 874th licensed aircraft mechanic in the United States at the age of 16. He worked in the aircraft industry in Washington and in a missile site in Roswell, N. M.

He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a belly gunner in a B-17 bomber flying missions over Europe. He worked on the aircrafts of Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindberg and Howard Hughes. He was also a building contractor and real estate developer and was preceded in death in 1999 by his wife, Dorothy Surine Currier.

He is survived by two stepdaughters.

Ruth B. Whitted

Ruth B. Whitted, 79, of Palestine, Texas, died Jan. 19, 2007, at Palestine Regional Hospital.

She was a native of Hagarville, daughter of the late Ira and Elsie Birkhead, Baptist, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Crosby Chapter No. 261 in Highlands, Texas, registered nurse for 44 years, former director of nurses at Buffalo Hospital, and owner of Dilly Dally Boutique in Jewett, Texas, for several years.

Survivors include her husband, E. W. Whitted; two sons, Dennis Whitted and wife, Susan, of Highlands, Texas, and Tommy Whitted of Farrar, Texas; one grandson, Dennis Wayne Whitted of Atascocita, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Jewett, Texas, with Rev. Barron Harris officiating. Burial was in New Hope cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Elden (Smitty) Smith, Jerry Duke, Rudy Hibbeler, Ken Phillips, Billy Bob Evans, and Harold Sumrall.

Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Johnson, Cleve Walker, Buck Gillenwater, and Joe Berreth.

Theodore L. Cooley

Theodore Lee Cooley, 87, of Mountain Grove, Mo., formerly of London, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Mo.

He was a native of Dewey, Okla., son of the late William Frederick and Elsie Mable Doane Cooley, and former resident of California and Douglas County in the Drury, Mo., area. He joined the CCC prior to graduating from Mountain Grove (Missouri) High School in 1941. He also joined the United States Horse Cavalry Division which later became the United States 9th Armored Division and served in the European Theater, Battle of The Bulge, and spearheaded crossing the Rhine River en route to Berlin before being honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Norwood, Mo., and of the American Legion Post 30 in Mountain Grove, Mo.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lt. William (Bill) Lee Cooley; three brothers, Orville Cooley, Landon Cooley and Frederick Cooley; and four sisters, Janice Wade, Hazel Schumann, Ida Cooley, and Joan McGinnis.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Burge Cooley; one son, Patrick Cooley and wife, Cindy, of North Little Rock; one daughter, Shirley Smith and husband, Joe, of Mountain Grove, Mo.; two sisters, Frances Sutherland and Janie Hicks, both of Mountain Grove, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove, Mo., with Rev. John Luther officiating. Burial was in New Hope cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Cooley, Bob Cope, Ronnie Dobbs, Larland Mayfield, Tom Cooley, Rick Allen, Charles Lambert, Joshua Poore, Darrell Cooley, Dain Lambert, Wayne Sutherland, and Wes Lambert.

Roy Wood

Roy Wood, 77, of Clarksville died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Paris Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was a son of the late Charles Mack and Dovie Jane Smith Wood, grandson of the late Hillard and Rodie Wood, farmer, Baptist, Veteran of Foreign Wars, served in the Korean War, and was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Wood.

He is survived by one brother, Floyd Lawson Wood and wife, Dena, of Salem, Ore.; four sisters, Dorothy Frogue and Willa Mae Taylor, both of Clarksville, Bonnie Taylor and husband, Jack, of Santa Maria, Calif., and Easter Earnest and husband, Mark, of Harrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The body was cremated.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
