Donald L. Miller
Donald Louis (Rip) Miller, 90, of Hartman died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Clarksville.
He was a retired laborer, Catholic, U. S. Army World War II veteran, native of Twin Bridges, Mont., son of the late Michael and May McLeod Miller, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Merie Morris Miller; two sons, Earl Dean Ingram and Tommy Lou Bridges; and one great-grandson, Malachi McDaniel.
Survivors include one son, Duel Miller and wife, Judy, of Hartman; eight grandchildren, Jason, Sean and Sabrina Ingram of Austin, Texas, Michelle Ruffaner and husband, Mike, of Nashville, Valerie McDaniels and Jennifer Tillman, both of Clarksville, Stacy Morgan and husband, Buddy, and Allen Holt and wife, Carrie, all of Coal Hill; ten great-grandchildren, James and April Ruffaner, Tristin and Ashton Jinkins, Keaton Miller, Braxton Morgan, Jacob and Bella Holt, and Stormie and Kindra Hart; two sisters-in-law, Mary Hembree and Sharon Trout; and one brother-in-law, Ewell Morris.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, at the National cemetery in Fort Smith with Floyd Hern officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
John H. Zachery
John H. Zachery, 80, of Hartman died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Clarksville Health and Rehab.
A native of Denning, he was a son of the late John Dillard and Anne Smith Zachery, and an Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a surgical nurse. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Huff and John Zachery Jr.; and one brother, Jay Zachery.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Morrow Zachery; three daughters, Pat Phillips of San Pablo, Calif., and Barbara Bartlett and Betty Ann Reynolds, both of Coal Hill; two sons, John Zachery of Clarksville and Gary Huff of Missouri; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Burial was in Hess cemetery at Coal Hill.
Active pallbearers were Carl Traylor, Don Bartlett, Mike Reynolds, Billy Reynolds, Clyde Traylor, and John Zachery.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert King, Edsel Williams, Dustin Bartlett, Matt Reynolds, and David Shelton.
Tommie Jean O'Hara
Tommie Jean O'Hara, 82, of Lamar died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at her home.
She was a native of Greenville, Texas, daughter of the late Clifford and Emma Lee Thompson Whattenbarger, widow of Herman Daniel O'Hara, and was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Dwain O'Hara and Tommy Clifford O'Hara.
Survivors include one daughter, Gay Lynn Sesny and husband, Chuck, of Lamar; and one granddaughter, Brianna Rose of Lamar.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville, Texas, with Rev. Randy Grosenbach officiating.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice in Russellville.
Nolan Faye Hughes
Nolan Faye Hughes, 76, of Clarksville went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Ira B. and Nana Bell McCarley Hughes, graduated from Lamar High School, was an employee of Boeing Aircraft of Wichita, Kansas for 19 years; and retired from Greenville Tube after 26 years. While retired he enjoyed gardening, fishing and time with his family.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nana Mae Hughes; two brothers-in-law, Harold Arlie Williams and Olen E. Freeman; his mother and father-in-law, Clifford H. and Sarah Mae Freeman; two nephews, Roland Lynn and George Quincy Freeman; one niece, Kimberly Sue Freeman Callahan; and one great-nephew, Derek Lee Freeman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lenna L. Freeman Hughes; two sons, Gary Nolan Hughes of Hartman and James Lynn Hughes and wife, Jamie, of Hartman; one daughter, Cynthia Diane McAlister and son-in-law, Everett Ray McAlister of Clarksville; two brothers, Charles Ray Hughes and Ira Bill Hughes and one sister, Jo Ann Williams, all of Knoxville.
He was the proud grandfather (Papa-Papaw) of four granddaughters, Katrina Page and husband, Michael, Nacole Case and husband, Levi, and Jatia Jones, all of Clarksville and Thailer Hughes of Hartman.
He was a devoted great-grandfather to four great-grandsons, Derris E. Page, Easton Case, Chance M. Dougan, and Braeden R. Gilley.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Minniear officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery. Visitation was Friday, July 17, from 7-8 p.m.
Active pallbearers were Levi Case, Michael Page, John Morsund, Harley Freeman, Shawn Hughes, and Jeremy Carpenter.
Honorary pallbearers were Dean Hughes, Bill Hughes, Charles Hughes, Mike Williams, and Steve Williams.
C.G. Barton
C.G. (Pete) Barton, 72, of Hot Springs, brother of Linda Barton of Clarksville, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010.
He was a native of Cecil, son of the late Paul Barton, graduate of County Line High School, received a bachelor of science degree from Arkansas Tech University and a master's degree from the University of Arkansas, retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class with 28-plus years of service, former employee of Miller Drilling Company and Russellville Lumber Company, retired as a regional director with the Arkansas State Parks System and also worked with the West Central Arkansas Planning and Development District. He was co-owner of Lawn Doctor of Fort Smith-Van Buren, cattle farmer, former member of the Downtown Lions Club, member and past president of Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association, served on the executive board of the National Recreation and Parks Association, served as the co-chairman of the 1975 Hot Springs Clean-up Drive, member of Hot Springs Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by grandparents, C.C. and Kate Barton, George and Mollie Powers; and father-in-law, Richard (Bus) Carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sharon Jo Barton; two sons, Blake Barton of Van Buren and Derek Barton and wife, Jennifer, of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Baylee and Hayden Barton; mother, Izola Powers Barton of Cecil; one brother, Kenneth (Betty) Barton of Moore, Okla.; one other sister, Betty (Ron) Moreton of Fort Smith; mother-in-law, Oleata Carpenter of Ozark; one brother-in-law, Richard (Charlotte) Carpenter Jr. of Ozark; two sisters-in-law, Karon (Marshall) Chrisman of Ozark and Gena (Tim) O'Neal of Branch; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral was at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Hot Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Manley Beasley Jr., Rev. Danny Baxter, and Rev. Shane Robertson officiating. Graveside services with military honors were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Cecil cemetery in Cecil.
Active pallbearers were nephews and great-nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Barton, Charles Barton, and George Rye Jr.

Curtis Clark Forman
Curtis Clark Forman, 88, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of King City, Mo., son of the late William Clark and Bertha Quell Forman, Marine veteran of World War II, member of Hagarville Baptist Church, and served as treasurer of the Hagarville Fire Department for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Theresa Forman; one daughter, Debra Johns of Russellville; two sons, Douglas Forman of Branson, Mo., and David Forman of Arvada, Colo.; four grandchildren, Stacey Evans, Douglas A. Forman, Kerryn Johns, and Benjamin Johns; four great-grandchildren, Christian Evans, Elyse Evans, Alexia Evans, and Evayne Forman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Hagarville Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Preston and Rev. Ira Taylor officiating.
Dennis M. Bowles
Dennis Michael (Mike) Bowles, 54, of Knoxville died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, in Kansas City, Mo.
He was retired, Army veteran, member of the First Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Bowles; and one son, Michael Don Bowles.
Survivors include one daughter, Jolene Lindsay of Conway; father, Don Bowles of Knoxville; two brothers, Roger Bowles and wife, Elaine, of Kansas City, Mo., and Harold Bruce Bowles of Clarksville; and two nephews, Michael Dale Bowles and Donald Matthew Bowles, both of Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Schlinker officiating. Burial will be in Minnow Creek cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Roger Dale Bowles, Harold Bruce Bowles, Lou Palmer, Michael Dale Bowles, Donald Matthew Bowles, and Gene Bowles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Pitts, Al Klein, Randy Swearingen, and Ben Hixon.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
