James Arch King
James Arch King, 92, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Sparks Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Dr. Reuben Ephraim and Jessie Ogden King of the Harmony Community, graduate of Clarksville High School, served in the U.S. Army at Camp Callan, Calif., during World War II, retired employee of Dixie Cup, longtime member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church where he taught the men's class for many years and also served in other areas of the church, and was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Laster; and four brothers, Paul King, Noel King, Abe King, and Oden King.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gracia Ragon King; two daughters, Linda (Curtis) Cullen of Richardson, Texas, and Kay (Harold) Hill of Perryville; seven grandchildren, James (Tami) Cullen, Jon (Keli) Cullen, Kari (Brian) Allen, Matt Cullen, Jarod Cato, Brian (Cheri) Hill, and John (Layne) Hill; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Grand Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Whitten and Rev. Mike Stark officiating. Graveside services and burial followed at 2 p.m. at the Lone Pine cemetery near Harmony. Arrangements were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Johnny K. Verwiebe
Johnny K. Verwiebe, 78, of Lamar died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Lutherville, son of the late Tony and Ollie Ada Pearson Verwiebe, printer, Lutheran, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Zelda Hawkins, Helen Standridge, and Maralee Verwiebe; and four brothers, Larry Verwiebe, Bill Verwiebe, Carl Verwiebe, and Sonny Verwiebe.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Verwiebe; three daughters, Dora Otto and husband, Rick, of Knoxville, Viola Smith of Bryant, and Allegra Moore and husband, Mike, of Russellville; two sons, Andy Verwiebe and wife, Linda, of Clarksville and Tim Verwiebe of Fort Charlotte, Fla.; two sisters, Nell Adams of Clarksville and Ruby Pfeifer of Vancouver, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with burial in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery at Lutherville.
Active pallbearers will be Derick Otto, Patrick Otto, Denvis Moore, Alan Moore, Brannon Smith, Tyler Smith, Joshua Marcaletti and Chris Marcaletti.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Verwiebe, Tony Verwiebe and Jack Horn.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Lewis Herbert Harkness
Lewis Herbert Harkness, 75, of Coal Hill died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a native of Ponttac, Miss., son of the late Connie Clarence and Ather Beatrice Williams Harkness, mechanic, member of Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Eugene Harkness and Lamon Wayne Harkness; one sister, Beatrice Euree Holland; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Warnock of Clarksville and Dianne Flowers and husband, David, of Raytown, Mo.; two sons, Mike Harkness and wife, Karen, of West Memphis and Billy Harkness and wife, Mary, of Paris; grandchildren, Bobby and Misty Warnock and Carla Cowell, all of Clarksville, Lizzie Harkness, Sean Musselwhite and Joshua Musselwhite, all of West Memphis, David Flowers of Omaha, Neb., Bobbie Dianne Henry of Belton, Mo., Patricia and Michelle Harkness of Tyler, Texas, Jason Patterman of Van Buren, Todd Moffet and Meagan Moore, both of Paris, Coty Harkness of Cecil, and Johnny Breedlove of Denning; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Horne officiating. Burial was in Lone Pine cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Flowers, Paul Blakeley, Johnny Breedlove, Bobby Warnock, Leo Flowers, Brett Henry, Todd Moffet, and Justin Carpenter.
Maribeth Mallory King
Maribeth Mallory King, 89, of Russellville, widow of Clarksville native Dr. William Ernest King Jr., died Monday, March 22, 2010, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
A native of Little Rock, she was a daughter of the late George Leonard and Edwina Reid Mallory, member of Central Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by one daughter; two sons; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Fred Ernest and Judy Pannell King of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Kathryn King Kish of Plano, Texas, and Alice King Kutz and husband, Kurt, of Springdale; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dave Schneider officiating.
Private burial was in Oakland cemetery in Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Oleander Mays Melson
Oleander Mays Melson, 71, a native of Oark, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in Sacramento, Calif.
After moving to California, she and her late husband of 50 years, J.L. Melson, a former Johnson County resident, started an antique and used tool business at the Denios, Galt, and 49er flea markets. She was a daughter of the late James T. and Rosa Eggers Mays and was preceded in death by three brothers.
Surviving are her children, Barbara Lawrence, Joseph (Karen) Melson, Rev. Patrick (Kellis) Melson and Michele Corbus; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John (Carol) Hubbard and Luther F. Mays of Oark.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes in Sacramento, Calif. Burial was in Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.
Bolin Dale Stewart
Bolin Dale Stewart, 66, of Slaytonville, southwest of Hackett, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at his home.
He was a son of the late Olin and Mittie Bowles Stewart, reared in the White Rock Community in Franklin County, former coach and teacher and retired as a high school principal at Johnson County Westside High School at Coal Hill. He was a farmer, member of the Western Arkansas Coon Hunters Association, avid bird hunter, and member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at New Providence Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Olin Stewart; two sisters, Maxine Stewart and Rosemary Hudson; one nephew, Kenneth Bearden II; and one great-nephew, Kenneth Bearden III.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sherrie Stewart; one son, Sean Stewart of Hackett; one daughter, Shannon McClure of Slaytonville; three brothers, John Stewart of Altus, and Jack and Elbert Stewart, both of Mulberry; three sisters, Jane Graf of Mulberry, Bertha Bearden of Ozark and Judy Mobarak of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Avery and Ashlyn McClure of Slaytonville and Jonathan and Mackenzie Cooper of Hackett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Rock Island Community Church in Rock Island, Okla.
Burial was at New Providence cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Active pallbearers were George Green, Mike Heffley, Clarence Holt, Louis Kirkendall, Johnny Graf and Greg Gibson.
Honorary pallbearers were Earl White, John Paul Mathis, Jonathan Cooper and Kyler Graf.
Edwin E. Willis
Edwin E. Willis, 79, of Knoxville died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his home.
He was a native of Hunt, son of the late Felix Monroe and Nancy Brison Willis, member of the Flat Rock Assembly of God Church, retired heating and air employee, and was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Edwin Willis; one granddaughter, Audra Willis; two brothers, William Eli Willis and Roy Denver Willis; three sisters, Annis Melson, Ollie Collins, and Melvina Martin; and two infant siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Martin Willis; two daughters, Marilyn Atchison and husband, John, of Lowell and Jannace Doughan and husband, Shaun, of Gore, Okla.; one sister, Sylvia Norman of Chandler, Okla.; two brothers, Dennis Willis of Oark and Levi Willis of Clarksville; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Willis of Russell, Kan.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, March 15, at the Flat Rock Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ronnie Birge, Larry Willis and Robbie Willis officiating.
Burial was in Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Rusty Martin, Mike Morse, Wayne Rothmeyer, David Willis, Dewayne Melson, and Doyle Martin.
