Leslie Earl Owen
Leslie Earl Owen, 85, of Wayton died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his home.
A native of Knoxville, he was a son of the late Thomas Aaron and Ona Delitha Richardson Owen, a 52-year Master Mason, member of Belle Grove Lodge No. 410, U. S. Army veteran, peach grower in Johnson County for 13 years, and former resident of Kansas City, Kan., where he was employed as a cement mason. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Hudson.
Survivors include his widow, Mae Murray Owen; one son, Thomas Aaron Owen of Topeka, Kan., four daughters, Phyllis Nichols of Kansas City, Kan., Beatrice Peachee of Fox, Pat Lasater of Clinton, and Diane Tomlinson of Harrison; three brothers, Burnace Owen of Kansas City, Mo., Gene Owen of Wayton, and Ray Owen of Rogers; one sister, Orpha Kilgore of Springdale; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Wayton Freewill Baptist Church with Bobby Ward officiating. Burial, along with masonic and military graveside services, was at the Snow cemetery at Wayton under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper.
Active pallbearers were Masons.
Honorary pallbearers were Arlo Breedlove, Bill Willis, Ellis Murray, Tony Emberton, Paul Lasater and Dr. Jimmy Justice.
Nannie Belle Hughes
Nannie Belle Hughes, 88, of Knoxville died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late William Sanford and Ossie Belle Jones McCarley, member of the Knoxville First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by four brothers, Pierce, Thomas (Buck), John Frank and Joe McCarley; and one sister, Daisy Mae Rowbotham.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Harold Williams of Knoxville; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Nolan and Lenna Hughes of Clarksville, and Charles Hughes and Bill Hughes, both of Knoxville; one brother, Gayland McCarley of Russellville; ten grandchildren, Gary Hughes, Diane McAlister, Jim Hughes, Mike Williams, Steve Williams, Leah Smith, Angie Hughes, Shawn Hughes, and Karen Shook, all of Clarksville, and Misty Sparks of Knoxville; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Knoxville First Baptist Church with Rev. Ira Taylor officiating.
Burial was in the Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gary Hughes, Jim Hughes, Mike Williams, Steve Williams, Shawn Hughes, and Everett McAlister.
Roy Melvin Hanshew
Graveside services and funeral for Roy Melvin Hanshew, 74, of Springdale, who died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, were at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He was a native of Hot Springs, son of the late Carl and Susie Hyder Hanshew, retired Tyson Foods employee, Army veteran of the Korean War, Baptist, and was preceded in death by his wife, Nola Dean Houston Hanshew.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Ann Taylor of Springdale; one son, Billy Carl Hanshew of Springdale; one sister, Eulema Pyles of Ozark; one brother, Eugene Hanshew of Springdale; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Stanley O. Davis
Stanley Oliver Davis, 31, of Clarksville died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home.
He was a native of St. Paul, Minn., and a Baptist.
Survivors include his parents, Joyce and David Davis of Clarksville; five sisters, Jennifer Justice of Salus, Amy Dosdoll, Rita Baker, and Penny Drew, all of Hager City, Wis., and Angela Donely of Bay City, Wis.; and one brother, Elmer Davis of Hartman.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
William H. Warren
William Henry Warren, 93, of Lamar died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a member of the York Lodge No. 596 at Dover, son of the late William and Mary Boen Warren, and was preceded in death by his wives, Bulah Mae Easley Warren and Neola Alma Crotts Warren; one daughter, Georgia Marie Warren; three sisters, Rosie Hammonds, Maude Smith and May Barber; and one brother, James Monroe Warren.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, William Junior and Florence Warren, Finis Lee and Patsy Warren, and Don Eugene and Kit Warren, all of Lamar; one sister, Bertha Elms of Clarksville; one sister-in-law, Eunice Crotts of Lamar; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jarret Warren, Randy Warren, Jesse Warren, Bryan Warren, Gary Warren, and Tony Warren.
Anthony Alverson
Anthony Alverson, 13, son of John and Lisa Segur Alverson of Dover and grandson of Larry and Jackie Segur of Clarksville, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born May 8, 1987, at Jacksonville Air Force Base, student at Dover Middle School, member of Round Rock Church at Dover, and was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Linza Alverson.
Other survivors include one brother, Jonathan Alverson of Dover; paternal grandmother, Lois Alverson of Russellville; three uncles, Larry B. Segur of Clarksville, Eddie Alverson of Hagarville, and Robert Alverson of Russellville; three aunts, Connie Curtis of Lamar, Janice Meimerstorf of Russellville, and Cindy Sage of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous cousins.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Round Rock Church with Pastor Charles (Chuck) Hefley officiating.
Burial was at Pollard cemetery at Dover under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers were Tim Meimerstorf, Larry B. Segur, Bobby Curtis, Joshua Chaney, Bill Hilderbrand, and Bryant Crider.
Honorary pallbearers were faculty and classmates of Dover Middle School.
Astor Langdon
Astor Langdon, 88, of Ozone died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
He was a native of Confluence, Ky., son of the late Simeon and Lucinda Morris Langdon, Baptist, carpenter and farmer, and was preceded in death by one son, David Langdon.
Survivors include his widow, Bessie Langdon; one daughter, Eula Jane Vaught of Ozone; one son, Dwaine Langdon of Ozone; ten grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Old Oark Community Building/Church with Rev. Clayton Rylee officiating.
Burial was in Oark cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Daniel Langdon, David Langdon, Scott Langdon, Todd Vaught, Michael Vaught, and Richard Flinn.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Barnes, Rickey Wages, Rudy Lueras, Don Langdon, and Jack Edwards.
Wilma Bonnie Gray
Wilma Bonnie Gray, 78, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her home in Russellville.
She was a former resident of Clarksville, daughter of the late Herbert and Ethel Crosswhite Burk, native of Portland, Ore., attended St. John's Lutheran Church of Russellville, and was preceded in death by a husband, Clyde Gray; and one brother, Herbert C. Burk Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald N. Gilbertson; one daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and George Head of Farmington, N. M.; five sisters, Thelma Davis and Claudia Burk of Portland, Ore., Viola Ramage of Tigard, Ore., Ruth Bajema of Reston, Va., and Debbie Kinghorn of Nampa, Idaho; five grandchildren, Wayne Head of Clovis, N. M., George Head and Susan Price, both of Farmington, N. M., Jean Goser of Henderson, Nev., and Mary Powell of Flagstaff, Ariz.; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Humphrey Funeral Service Chapel in Russellville with Rev. Darrel Kobs officiating. The body was cremated.
