Dorothy Ann Minor
Dorothy Ann Minor, 82, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Albert and Thyra Bell King Sexton, widow of Harlow Minor Jr., graduate of Clarksville High School, and member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita Rachel and husband, Rick, of Bentonville; two sons, Steve Minor and Tracy Minor and wife, Kim, all of Clarksville; two sisters, Carolyn Johnson and Laura Bell Soard, both of Clarksville; two brothers, Richard Sexton and Jack Sexton, both of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Tiffaney Holland, Trent Rachel, Danielle Minor and Autumn Minor; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial was in Stillwell cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Larry Griffin, Ronnie Ashlock, Nick Teal, Bill Stewart, Bob Sparks, and Don Pannell.
Elgy Lee Brown Sr.
Elgy Lee Brown Sr., 87, of Sikeston, Mo., died Aug. 21, 2010, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was a native of Morehouse, Mo., son of the late Charley William and Ivy Sherwood Brown, and was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy E. Patterson Brown, a former resident of Johnson County. He served in the U.S. Army as a private first class in the Central Europe Campaign which included the Rhineland and Northern France during World War II. He earned three Bronze Stars, three overseas gold bars, good conduct medal, rifle marksmanship medal, and accident free truck driver medal. He was an automobile mechanic having retired from Lankheit Motors in 1985, lifetime member of the Sikeston VFW Post 3147, member of Trinity Gospel Church, and was also preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; and one grandson.
Survivors include one son, Elgy Lee Brown Jr. and wife, Donna, of Sikeston, Mo.; one daughter, Marjean Figley and husband, James, of Sikeston, Mo.; one brother, Billy Brown of Sikeston, Mo.; three sisters, Dorothy Overton and Barbara Casey of Sikeston, Mo., and Pearliemae Watson of Morehouse, Mo.; one granddaughter; and two grandsons.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Trinity Gospel Church in Sikeston, Mo., with Rev. Larry Davis officiating.
Burial was at the Garden of Memories cemetery with military honors provided by the Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Dale Patterson, Wayne Patterson, Billy Gene Brown, Gary Brown, Larry Wilson and Don King.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nunnelee Funeral Home.
Elizabeth Q. Spanke
Elizabeth Quaile Spanke, age 96, died September 2, 2010.
A woman of independent spirits, she lived life on her own terms. Born in Coal Hill, Arkansas, to the late Ferral and Preston Quaile.
She was a graduate from The College of the Ozarks and taught English at Hartman High School.
She married
Lawrence Spanke of Hartman in 1940 and together they raised four children. Working as the library assistant at the college, she ensured college degrees for all four children.
Returning to school, she received her realtor's license through the University of Arkansas and became one of the first female realtors in Johnson County, working in the field for thirty years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Spanke Sr., sisters, Virginia and Geraldine, brothers, Kenneth and Billy.
She is survived by four children, Linda (Richard) Brand of Benbrook, Texas, Lawrence Jr. (Sherrill) Spanke of Garland, Texas, Lance (Jan) Spanke and Lionel (Nella) Spanke, both of Clarksville, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Her body was cremated under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Private memorial service was at Holy Redeemer cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made in her name to the University of the Ozarks, 415 North College Avenue, Clarksville, AR 72830.
Gayla Lynn Gregory
Gayla Lynn Gregory, 53, of Clarksville, formerly of Alma, took her final flight into the arms of the Lord on August 31, 2010. Gayla was born on August 27, 1957 in Alma, Arkansas.
Gayla was a 1975 graduate of Alma High School, and a 1977 graduate of Westark Community College with an associate degree in applied science. She began her career at Sparks Regional Medical Center May 15, 1977, she also became an instructor for the EMT/Paramedic program at Westark Community College, she then signed on with Air-Evac as a flight medic. She was a member of Goddard Methodist Church and she was currently attending Hedgeway Church in Clarksville.
Her joy and passion for living life as well as saving lives was evident. Her exuberant humor, compassion, and tenacity were apparent to anyone's whose life she touched. Her legacy of graciousness and devotion will continue for many years to come. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James R. and Doris Gregory; one sister, Barbara Lee McRae, and a nephew, Dane Gregory.
She is survived by the son of her heart, Tanner Mathis of Fort Smith, AR; her companion, Deanna Yates of the home; three sisters, Inez Nance of Alma, AR, Donita Burnett and her husband, Hank, of Mulberry, AR, and Tammy Woodard of Clarksville, AR; one brother, Robert Gregory of Kibler, AR; 10 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as Deanna's family in the Coal Hill area.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
The family visited with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at the Narthex at First United Methodist Church, 200 North 15th Street, Fort Smith, AR.
Pallbearers will be Lyndle Thacker, Allyson Gentry, Tom Gentry, Matthew Callahan, Rick Rauser and Randy Cockrum. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Gregory, Timmy Gregory, Nathan Yates, Brent Yates, Shyloh Yates, Dee Yates, Ray Green, B.J. Johnson, Dorothea McKinney, Hank Burnett, Jimmy Acklin, Air Evac 22 Paris, AR, Air Evac 73 DeQueen, AR Air Evac 4 Springdale, AR, and Air Evac 30 Vilonia, AR.

Johnnie Pearce
Johnnie Maxine Pearce, 77, of Heber Springs died Monday, July 26, 2010, at her home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Robert A. and Nettie Walker King, former employee of Walmart and member of McJester Baptist Church.
A graveside family service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Rev. Denver Gillespie officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Olmstead Funeral Home.
Marie Lindsey
Marie Lindsey, 78, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at her home.
She was a native of Newton County, daughter of the late Clyde and Ora Malick Shatwell, retired cook, Baptist, and preceded in death by three sons, Johnny, Jerry and Gary Lindsey; one brother, Ray Shatwell; and two sisters, Imalee Madewell and Linda Cowell.
Survivors are three daughters, Janie Kirby and husband, Jim, of Weiner, Donna Calvert and husband, Jay, of Blytheville, and Paula Cleveland and husband, Eugene, of Gosnell; three sons, Eddie Lindsey and wife, Kathy, and Michael Lindsey, all of Clarksville, and Freddie Lindsey of Knoxville; one sister, Wanda Imogene White of Clarksville; six brothers, Dean Shatwell, Delman Shatwell, Kenneth Shatwell, and Leroy Shatwell, all of Clarksville, and Redell Shatwell of Knoxville; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Schlinker officiating. Burial was in Holman cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Lindsey, Eddie Lindsey Jr., Jeremy Lindsey, James Chandler, Chris Kirby, Jonathan Cleveland, and David Cleveland.
Robbie L. McCracken
Robbie Lee (Bobbie) McCracken of Little Rock died Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
She was born in Clarksville, Arkansas on May 15, 1918.
The daughter of the late Robert Ezra and Elzada Lovetta Storms Adkins.
She graduated from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
A member of the University of the Ozarks – alumni.
Member of Sixth Street Church of Christ in Little Rock, Order of Eastern Star, Elks Club, and Arkansas Governors Council.
She made a career of volunteering in many charitable activities including March of Dimes Association and Salvation Army.
She was Little Rock Woman of the Year several times and Who's Who of the American Southern Women.
She was a member of the Officers Club at Little Rock Air Force Base and a member and past president of U. S. Air Force Association.
She modeled hats by Jack McConnell of New York and Always wore beautiful hats.
She was owner of McCracken Realty for several years.
Survivors are daughter, Kay Lynn Redman and husband, Jim, of North Little Rock, grandson, Jimbo Redman of North Little Rock, granddaughter, Kaylin Lee Hart and husband, Michael A., of Mobile, Alabama, great-grandchild, Preston James Hart of Mobile, Alabama, sister, LeVerne Reppond and husband, Ollie, of Little Rock, nephew, R. Michael Schoggina of Hot Springs.
Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010, at Mount Airy cemetery in Clarksville.
