Mrs. Bertha A. Mayfield
Mrs. Bertha A. Mayfield, 98, of Clarksville died Monday, March 22, 1999, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Lurton, daughter of the late Wiley Bonds and Emaline Owens Wheeler, widow of Edward M. Mayfield, and member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorene and M. L. (Buddy) Nesbitt, Doris M. and Ronald D. Reeves, and Dolores A. Rives, all of Clarksville, Alice C. Reeves of Coal Hill, and Lillian Mason of Grand Junction, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Kent Yates, Gary Weathers, Harold Weathers, Stanley Nesbitt, Ronald Reeves, and Jerry Bradley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Green, Burley Shook, Shelby Shook, Larry Shook, and Roy Z. Shook.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Countryside Manor Nursing Home, P. O. Box 579, Lamar AR 72846.
Billy Earl Young
Billy Earl Young, 24, of Coal Hill died Monday, March 22, 1999, in Fort Smith.
He was a groundhand with Southern Telephone and Electrical Construction Company.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Misty Young; two daughters, Elizabeth Young of Coal Hill and Adriane Brooke McKee Young of Ozark; one son, Steven Young of Coal Hill; mother, Vicky Carter of Coal Hill; father, Harvey Young of Coal Hill; stepmother, Marilyn Young of Coal Hill; and one brother, Randy Young of Coal Hill.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial in the Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George Dalton, Robert Stepp, Kenny Stepp, Bill Richards, California Powers, Jimmy Hogue, and Dennis Ragsdale.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark.
Clyde Wayne Martin
Clyde Wayne Martin, 50, of Springdale died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Salida, Colo.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Hiram and Elsie Armstrong Martin, graduated from Northside High School in Fort Smith, attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, and served in the Marines during the Vietnam Era.
He was employed by the Fort Smith Police Department for two years, retired from the Springdale Police Department after 20 years, recipient of the Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award in 1987 from the Springdale Jaycees, Outstanding Service Award Past Chairman 1987 from Arkansas Crime Prevention Council and Appreciation to Our Children Award from Springdale City Council PTA.
He was past Boy Scout assistant scout master of Troop 112 and Troop 333, Westark Razorback District, past Little League assistant coach, 20-year member of Arkansas Municipal Police Association, member of American Legion Post 139, Washington County American Red Cross volunteer, member of executive board and disaster services and critical incidence and stress management, organized the security program at the Northwest Medical Center, was currently an officer with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board of Arkansas and attended the First Baptist Church of Springdale.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sharon Neal Greer Martin; two sons, Bryan Martin and Thommy Greer, both of Springdale; one half-brother, Hiram Martin Jr. of Antelope, Calif.; two sisters, LaRita (Cricket) Patterson of Springdale and Rama Sue Holloway of Altus; and one half-sister, Burnetta Vogel of Monroeville, Pa.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, at the First Baptist Church of Springdale with Jim Huffman, Larry Branum and Charlie Foster officiating.
Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel Inc., of Springdale.
Pallbearers were Robert Bersi, Brian Bersi, Corey Erickson, Mike Harrison, Barry Puckett, Mark Smith, Eric Jaro and Lee Andreadis.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, P. O. Box 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203.
Mrs. Dorothy Harrison
Mrs. Dorothy Harrison, 74, of Lamar died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Martin and Helen Nath Saddler and widow of Delane Clyde Harrison.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Larison of Clarksville and Connie Leard of Elkhorn, Neb.; three sons, Larry Harrison of Vallejo, Calif., Lanny Harrison of Las Vegas, Nev., and Rick Harrison of Ozark, Mo.; one sister, Thelma McKechar of Downey, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The body was donated to the Department of Anatomy of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock.
Mrs. Eunice Blackard
Mrs. Eunice M. Blackard, 88, of Clarksville died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Garland and Maude Smotherman Laneer, and widow of Conley Blackard.
She is survived by one sister, Wanda Chronister of Kibler; one brother, Luke Laneer of Clarksville; and three nephews, Jarvis Chronister of Van Buren and Michael Laneer and Ted Laneer, both of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carmon Austin officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jarvis Chronister, C. O. Blackard, H. B. Chronister Jr., Michael Laneer, M. E. Chronister, and Gene Koerdt.
Evert Hardcastle
Evert (E. J.) Hardcastle, 92, of Fort Smith, brother of Odys Hardcastle of Clarksville, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at his home.
He was a son of the late Jim W. and Hattie Nichols Hardcastle, native of Ozark, retired coal miner and former salesman for the Galloway Oil and Tire Company, and a member of the Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church and the U.C.T.
Other survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rose Abercrombie Hardcastle; one daughter, Evelyn Sallee of Fort Smith; one son, Kenneth J. Hardcastle of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Opper and Lena Parker, both of Ozark, and Ocena Sutliff of Paris; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Rev. Tim Sallee, Rev. Ronnie Gilmore and Rev. Ronnie Hutchings officiating. Burial was at Gracelawn cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark Sallee, Anthony Sallee, Lee J. Hardcastle, Harold Henson, Archie Hillard, and Clancy Armstrong.
