Fred Cowell

Fred Cowell, 96, of Clarksville died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at his home.
He was a retired timber employee, son of the late J. A. and Mary Elizabeth Johnston Cowell, attended the Clarksville First Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Cowell.
Survivors include his wife, Leota Dollar Cowell; four daughters, Albertine Reddell and husband, Chester, Ina Davidson and husband, Ray, and Lanell Laster and husband, Raymond, all of Van Buren, and Mary Laugwitz and husband, John, of Clarksville; four sons, Fred H. Cowell and wife, Faye, Gerald Cowell and wife, Diane, and Jerry Ray Cowell and wife, Marilyn, all of Clarksville, and Don C. Cowell and wife, Cheryl, of Lamar; two stepdaughters, Shirley Chavez of Texas, and Jean Henson and husband, Paul, of Kansas; one stepson, Sam Henderson and wife, Ginger, of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the First Assembly of God Church in Clarksville with Rev. Dade Kindrix and Rev. Terry Cameron officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Steve Reddell, Alan Davidson, Jeff Laster, Todd Cowell, Brad Cowell, Jared Cowell, Nathan Cowell and Ashley Cowell.
Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Rita Reddell, Johna Syfert and Jamie Williams.
Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Fannie R. Green

Fannie Robbie Green, 98, of North Little Rock died Friday, July 7, 2006.
She was born in Clarksville to Walter and Willie Shamblin Temple, taught school in Johnson County for several years, was an employee of J. C. Penney after moving to North Little Rock, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Green Sr.
She is survived by two daughters, Meredith Prince and Glena Criner and husband, Tommy, all of North Little Rock; one son, Robert Green and wife, Ann, of Little Rock; one sister, Edyth Geisler of Clarksville; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Levy United Methodist Church. Burial was in Edgewood cemetery under the direction of North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Gerald S. Dipietro

Gerald Stewart Dipietro, 26, of Dothan, Ala., died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Flowers Hospital.
He was a native of Sicily, Italy, former resident of Clarksville, and a Werner Trucking Company employee.
Survivors include his wife, Heather Michelle Dipietro; mother and stepfather, Vivian and David Koch of Clarksville; father, Mario Dipietro of Italy; two brothers, Andrea Dipietro of Italy and Kenny Koch of Clarksville; two sisters, Giuliana Dipietro of Italy and Nichole Koch of Clarksville; grandparents, Eleonoriea Elliott and Ken Elliott, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Marie Dipietro of Italy; uncle, David Elliott of Italy; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lisa and Tom Etchberger of Dothan, Ala.; aunt, Alandra Elliott of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Shawn Johnson of Dothan, Ala., Kristopher Pierpont of Russellville, and Nobel Etchberger and Quyinten Etchberger, both of Dothan, Ala.; and grandparents-in-law, Tom and Doris Etchberger of Dothan, Ala.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

James E. Higby

James Everett Higby, 76, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, in Antlers, Okla.
He was a native of the Hickeytown Community, son of the late James Martin and Edith Mae Blackard Higby, and was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva (Tommie) Estell Higby; one brother, Ervin Leon Higby; and one sister, Clemma Jo Higby.
He is survived by six children, Gwenda Faye Higby and James Ray Higby, both of Lamar, Jimmie Sue Harmon and Deborah LaJoy Wyles, both of Clarksville, Jamie Diann Romos of Pueblo, Colo., and Sonya Kay Carlton of Newalla, Okla.; four brothers, Rhuel Douglas Higby, David Kenneth Higby, George Allen Higby, and Robert Earl Higby; one sister, Vonda Mae Lamb; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and personal close friend, Bonnie Clifton.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Mills-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel in Antlers, Okla., with Rev. Michael Birdsong officiating.

Jerry E. Willis

Jerry Edwin Willis, 56, of Russell, Kan., died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at the Russell Regional Hospital. Jerry was born May 25, 1950 in Altus, Arkansas the son of Ed and Lucille (Martin) Willis. He grew up and attended schools in Clarksville, Arkansas and Timber Ridge, Oklahoma. He graduated from Catoosa High School with the class of 1968. He was united in marriage to Ruth Terrell on November 22, 1969 in Salina, Kansas. Jerry served his country in the U. S. Army. He was with the 173rd Airborne Division in Vietnam.
Jerry worked for the Allied Cementing Company when he first moved to the Russell area in 1973. In 1987 he became the owner and operator of Jerry's Place. Then in 1995 he sold the restaurant and moved to Clarksville, Arkansas where he started JW Trucking. He retired from the trucking business in 2001 and Ruth and he returned to the Russell area.
Jerry was a life member and Past Commander of the V.F.W. in 1994. He also was a member of the Masonic Shrine of Russell. He enjoyed fishing and watching all types of sports. Jerry was known for his great sense of humor.
Surviving family includes his wife of 36 years, Ruth of the home; daughter, Amy Dollison and husband, Bill, and their two children, Bailey and Cody, all of Russell; parents, Ed and Lucille Willis of Knoxville, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Sylvia Newton and husband, Richard, of Russell; sisters, Marilyn Atchison of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Janace Doughan of Gore, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Audra Lyn Willis.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell. Reverend Warren Hett officiated at the service. Interment was immediately following the services at the Russell City cemetery. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. The family was present to receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial has been established as the Jerry Willis Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who assisted the family with the arrangements.

Betty J. Skidgel

Betty Jean Millikan Skidgel, 81, of Hartman died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Chicago, Ill., she was a registered nurse, retired employee of Countryside Manor Nursing Home, member of the Fernwood Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Arza Clark Millikan, and one sister, Francis Lucille Zathan.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Skidgel; two daughters, Mary Frances Hurley and husband, Mike, of Chehalis, Wash., and Sharon Storms and husband, Lyn, of Ozark; three sons, Leroy Millikan and wife, Birdie, of Clarksville, Arza Jay Millikan and wife, Donna, of Jasper, and James Millikan and wife, Dorothy, of Atkins; one sister, Ella Temple and husband, John, of Avon, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Fernwood Assembly of God Church with Rev. Travis George officiating.
Burial was in Hartman cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jason Millikan, John Millikan, Daniel Storms, William Streithorst, Gaylan Williams, Greg Taylor, Greg Hankins and Steve Ford.

Carolyn Jean Crotts

Carolyn Jean Crotts, 53, of Conway died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Conway Regional Health System.
Survivors include her parents, Glen and Loretta Tilley Crotts of Lamar; two brothers, Gary Crotts and wife, Rheba, and Steven Crotts, all of Lamar; nephews, Jonathan Crotts of London and Joseph Crotts of Lamar; aunt, Sue Hatchett of Lamar; three uncles, Harry Tilley of Lamar, Larry Tilley of Granbury, Texas, and Wayne Tilley of Paducah, Ky.; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Freed and Josie Tilley and John and Erie Crotts; and three uncles, Earnest Lee Tilley, Elbert Fay Tilley and Dwayne Tilley.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. George Andrews officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Young, Ricky Tilley, Michael Tilley, Kevin Frost, Kenneth Wilkins, and Harry Tilley.

Donald Casey

Donald Casey, 66, of Bend, Ore., died June 4, 2006, at his home.
He was a former resident of the Minnow Creek Community, son of the late Orcus and Rosene Casey, and a hunter and photographer.
Among his survivors are aunts and uncles, Marcie and Paul Martin of Clarksville, Barbara and Arch Matthews of Brazoria, Texas, and Gladys Faye of Fort Smith; and numerous cousins.
The body was cremated.
