Betty Lou Terry
Betty Lou Terry, 72, of Scranton died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at her home.
She was a native of Scranton, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Opal Cordell Brown, and member of the Scranton Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband, Albert (Sonny) Terry; one daughter, Jeannette Gilmore of Paris; two sons, Dennis Terry and wife, Nancy, of Scranton and Larry Terry and wife, Anita, of Wellington, Mo.; four sisters, Robbie Lee Selph and husband, Arlis, Reba Hixon, and Freda Hinkle, all of Scranton, and Mary Corbin and husband, Gerald, of Decatur; three brothers, T. J. Brown and wife, Pat, of Scranton, Ricky Brown and wife, Betty, of Clarksville, and Orville Brown of Paris; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Scranton Holiness Church with Rev. Phillip Barnard officiating.
Burial was in McKendree cemetery under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Paris.
Active pallbearers were Cody, Josh, and Steven Terry, David Gilmore, Gary Selph, and Danny Hixon.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Lensing, Arthur and Quinton Selph, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cecil F. Nichols
Cecil F. Nichols, 77, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Ozark, he was a son of the late John and Bessie Collins Nichols, member of the Church of Christ, retired farmer, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Oleta Stockton.
Survivors include his wife, Mickey Nichols; four daughters, Linda Johnson of Ozark, Berrnetta Cooper of England, Nellie Johnson of Lamar, and Gladys Nichols of Hartman; five sons, Steve Nichols of Russellville, Allen Nichols, Roger Nichols and Doug Nichols, all of Hunt, and James Nichols of Hartman; two sisters, Hazel Nichols of West Plains, Mo., and Betty Mae Spitzer of Russellville; three brothers, Eugene Nichols of Gum Log, Harley Nichols of Lutherville, and Johnny Nichols of Clarksville; 27 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt.
Pallbearers were Scott Nichols, Erick Nichols, Chad Johnson, Seth Johnson, Dustin Nichols, Josh Brousseau, and Jimmy Brousseau.
Gladys R. Farmer
Gladys Ruth Farmer, 91, of Little Rock died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ethel Adkins Farmer, 1938 graduate of the University of the Ozarks, received a master of arts degree in English from the University of Arkansas, recipient of the Ozarks Alumni Merit award in 1944, and was scheduled to receive Ozarks Legacy Award in April. She taught in public schools in Arkansas, Texas and Arizona for 43 years, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and First Presbyterian Church in Conway and had been a resident of Presbyterian Village since 1998. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lou Drake and Doris Grant; and three brothers, Lee Farmer, Ralph Farmer, and Cecil Farmer.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Lois Farmer of Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews including Pat Farmer of Clarksville, Dorcas Pate, Homer Farmer, Robert Farmer, Ray Farmer and Betty Bales, all of Tulsa, Okla., Ann Drake and Heber McKissack of Conway, and Bill Drake of Springfield, Mo.
Memorial graveside services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Oakland cemetery with Rev. Kathy Kaczmarek, chaplain of Presbyterian Village, and Rev. Lance Jones officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Ethel Adkins Farmer Drama Scholarship at the University of the Ozarks, First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville or First Presbyterian Church of Conway.
Gladys Schoonover
Gladys Cleo Schoonover, 82, of Clarksville died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Dover, daughter of the late Burl and Evelyn Girardot Brown, widow of Otto K. Schoonover and Alfred Andrews Jr., a Jehovah's Witness, formerly employed as a licensed practical nurse in Nevada and at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville; and was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Fay Brown; and two sisters, Opal Taylor and Hallie Casey.
Survivors include three sons, Alfred Wayne Andrews of Jefferson City, Mo., Jimmy Ray Andrews of Long Beach, Calif., and Paul David Andrews of Dover; four daughters, Gladys Warren of Clarksville, Brenda Lavone Doyle of Dover, Betty Jo Andrews of Jacksonville, Texas, and Mary Evelyn Turner of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Charles Brown of Pocahontas and Burl Bradley Brown of Hot Springs; one sister, Estelle Ford of Riverside, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Shinn Chapel with Rev. Clellan H. Tilley officiating. Burial will be in McFadden cemetery at Dover.
Pallbearers will be Paul David Andrews, Alfred Wayne Andrews, Larry Eugene Doyle, Charles Jim Hanks, Eric Hanks, and Clellan H. Tilley.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Shinn Funeral Home in Russellville.
Jessie M. Callahan
Jessie M. Callahan, 64, of Lamar died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Lamar, daughter of the late Tom and Ruby Carter Sams, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Callahan; one son, Roland Freeman; one grandson, Derek Freeman; and one brother, Tommy Ray Sams.
Survivors include two sons, Harley Freeman of Ozone and George Freeman of Clarksville; three sisters, Kanna Lou Crotts of Lamar, Edna Henderson of Mississippi, and Deborah Wilhelm of Clarksville; one brother, Billy Sams of Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and the father of her surviving children, Olen Freeman of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery.
Active pallbearers were George Freeman, Harley Freeman, Johnny Wood, Roger Williams, Jefrey Callahan, and Don Wilhelm.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Hughes, Jim Hughes, Everette McCalister, Charlie Stepp, Tim Freeman, and Albert Arrowood.
Janey J. Pickett
Janey Jerlene Pickett, 71, of Clarksville died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church, daughter of the late Columbus Franklin and Cleo Neal Carlton, and widow of W. G. Pickett.
Survivors are one daughter, Reba Boswick of Clarksville; two sons, Gary Tate of Clarksville and Chris Pickett and wife, Terrie, of London; four brothers, Lawrence Carlton of Oark, Benny Carlton of Clarksville, and Frank and Lowell Carlton, both of Ozone; three sisters, Linda Seals of Coal Hill, Barb Perky of Tennessee, and Alma Batchelder of Redding, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clayton Rylee officiating. Private burial was in Oakland cemetery following cremation.
Joyce F. Reynolds
Joyce Faye Ferrell Reynolds, 65, of Coal Hill died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at her home.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and daughter of the late M. D. Ferrell.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Bert Reynolds; one son, Michael Bert Reynolds of Coal Hill; mother, Gertie Tumbleson Ferrell of Clarksville; one brother, Leon Ferrell of Benton; two grandchildren, Brandy Ann Reynolds Shelton and Matthew Bert Reynolds; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Nicole Shelton, Garrett Levi Reynolds, Billy Bert Reynolds Jr., and Michaela Renell Reynolds.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Kindrix and Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Burial was in Hess cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Dean Hanson, Billy East, Buddy Beavers, Jerry Parker, Denton Tumbleson, and Charles Dodge.
Kenneth Sams
Kenneth Sams, 74, of Coal Hill died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Lamar.
He was born at Lamar to William Alec and Dona Faye Bean Sams.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Mann and Sheila McCalmon, both of Shawnee, Kan.; three sons, Gary Sams of Bashor, Kan., Ray Allen Sams of Coal Hill and Melvin Sams of Van Buren; two sisters, Martha Turner and Mary Gustafson, both of Coal Hill; one brother, Claude Sams of Yakima, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Coal Hill cemetery with Marion Wood and Mark Wood officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Aaron Self, Beacher Self, Michael Guess, Darrell Wayne Self, Edward Bonerese, Rich Mann, and Robert McCalmon.
