Mary M. Blackard
Mary Margaret Blackard, 72, of Tahlequah, Okla., died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at her home.
She was a native of Jenks, Okla., daughter of the late Leslie Albert and Eartha Della Blankenship Trent, attended Hopewell, Edison and Washington Elementary schools in Muskogee, Okla., Alice Robertson Junior High School and Horace Mann Junior High School in Tulsa, Okla., Clarksville (Arkansas) High School, Tulsa Central High School, Northeastern State University and received a bachelor of science degree in business majoring in tourism management and a minor in accounting. She was former employee of Hawk's Dairy, Ann's Bakery and Brenner's Men's Store business office, former vice president of Guy Engineering in Tulsa, Okla., and co-owner and co-manager of Arrowhead Camp on the Illinois River for 19 years and Pine Valley Cabins for 12 years.
She was a member of the PAC Board for the Bill Willis Community Mental Health Center, president of the Family Advisory Council at Eastern State Hospital, was honored in 1990 for outstanding service as a volunteer at New Beginnings Club House in Tulsa, Okla., served as treasurer and membership chair of the Tulsa Business and Professional Women's Club, former member of the American Association of University Women of the Tahlequah Branch, and served as hostess for the annual tour of homes. While a member of Faith Baptist Church she served as a Sunday school teacher, church clerk, soloist and member of the finance committee. In recent years she was a member of First Baptist Church in Tahlequah and sang with the 350 member Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma choir. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Carroll Trent; and one half-sister, Patsy Hosmer.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Bill Blackard; three daughters, Angela Swift and husband, Mark, of Tulsa, Okla., Dawn Fisher and husband, Jim, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lorrie Friet and husband, Jay, of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Hurley Blackard of Tahlequah, Okla., and Edward Blackard and wife, Penny, of Russellville; one half-sister, Wanda Godwin of Calgary, Canada; one half-brother, J.R. Trent and wife, Colline, of Muskogee, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Fisher and wife, Alicia, Wendy (Fisher) and husband, Tom, Nicole (Bointy) Walls and husband, Jimmy, Kristen (Swift) Torbett and husband, Kent, Emily Blackard, Nicholas Blackard and William Friet; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick Bointy, and James, Lacey and Sara Fisher.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at First Baptist Church in Tahlequah, Okla., with Rev. Buddy Hunt, Rev. David Blake, and Jerry Hawkins officiating.
Burial will be in Molly Field cemetery near the Illinois River under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah, Okla.

Rose Berg King
Rose Berg King, 84, of Clarksville died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Vienna, Austria in 1925, to Jacob and Cecilia Essig Berg. She was a student at Jewish boarding school in Vienna when Austria was annexed to the German Third Reich in 1938. At age 13 and after one failed attempt to leave Austria and certain deportation to the Nazi death camps, she escaped and eventually made her way to Kibbutz Afikim in the British Mandate of Palestine. She lived and worked on the kibbutz until she was old enough to join a women's unit of the British RAF. She met her future husband, Jasper King, where they were both stationed in Cairo, Egypt. The two married
in Norway, where Rose lived for several years after the war. She immigrated to the United States, arriving by boat in New York Harbor on St. Patrick's Day 1952. She and Jasper lived in Chicago, Ill., until they moved to Clarksville in 1954, where he helped his father run King Jewelry.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by two older brothers, Ludwig and Josef, who were involved in the European resistance to the Nazis in World War II.
Survivors are one daughter, Julia Ciaravino and husband, Michael, of Benton, La.; two sons, Aron Mellich of Washington and Richard King of Massachusetts; one brother, Phillipe Berg of Paris, France; three grandchildren, Jacob, Laura and Joseph King; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Aron Mellich, Richard King, Michael Ciaravino, Joe King, Bill Crosby, and Charlie Dowe.
Anna Charles
Anna LaRee Duncan Charles, 72, of London died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her home.
She was a licensed practical nurse, daughter of the late Carl Duncan, and preceded in death by one brother, Everett Duncan.
Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Burke and husband, Kelly, and Yolanda Cooper and husband, Randall, all of Wagoner, Okla., and Leaha Kopp and husband, Jarrod, of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, Johnny Charles and wife, Heide, of Tulsa, Okla., and David Charles and wife, Malinda, of the Flat Rock Community; mother, Ethel Duncan of Coal Hill; one sister, Shirley Robinson of Lindsborg, Kan.; one brother, Eugene Duncan of Coal Hill; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Mike West officiating.
Burial was in Hess cemetery at Coal Hill under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Chris Burke, Charles Burke, Dakota Hill, Michael Bates, Jarrod Kopp, and Rick Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers were Shawn Charles, Trent Robinson, Chad Scott and Cody Hamilton.
Arena Rickard
Arena Rickard, 94, of Altus, whose granddaughter, Kristi Robertson and husband, Jerry, reside in Lamar, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Alma.
She was a native of Newcastle, Texas, daughter of the late J. B. and Audra Willis Quisenberry, widow of Coy Rickard, and a member of the Altus Baptist Church.
Other survivors include one son, Gene Rickard and wife, Shirley, of the Pleasant View Community; two sisters, Odell Steel of Temecula, Calif., and Faye Morris of Van Buren; and two great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Benjamin Robertson.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark with John Brasseaux officiating. Burial was in Highland cemetery in Ozark.
Active pallbearers were Glenn and David Morris, Jerry Robertson, Jim Rowland, and Wallace and Clinton West.
Honorary pallbearers were men of the Ozark Church of Christ.
Ethel Mae Damon
Ethel Mae Damon, 68, of the Piney Bay Community died Monday, April 13, 2009, at her home.
She was self-employed, native of Clarksville, and daughter of the late Orland and Jewell Frost Bean.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Damon; one daughter, Sandra Avants of Houston, Texas; three sons, Rodney Pitts and wife, Lou Ann, and Steve Pitts and wife, Penny, all of Clarksville, and Bobby Pitts of Rogers; one sister, Jewell Faye Damon and husband, Jim, of Clarksville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Lone Pine cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Dean Wright, Jim Damon, Coy Damon, Kyn Wilson, Dale Dietz, and Keith Frost.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Noblett, Milt Stratton, Doug Duvall, Arie Green and grandsons.
Hardena Shurley
Hardena Shurley, 90, of Clarksville died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Clarksville Health and Rehabilitation.
She was a native of Yale, daughter of the late George and Amanda Lane Whorton, widow of William Frank Shurley, Methodist, and preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Roberts, Helena Mathis, and Mable Casey; and one brother, Virgil Whorton.
She is survived by one sister, Pearl Dunn of Edmond, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews including Raymond Casey of Odessa, Texas, Harrold Roberts of Pasadena, Texas, Charles Roberts of Edmond, Okla., and Elaine Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 20, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kent Cecil, Clyde Patterson, Raymond Patterson, Ronnie Funderburg, Don Chappell, and Chris Chappell.
Honorary pallbearer was John Howell.
Ina Mathews
Graveside services and burial for Ina Mathews, 71, of Ozark, who died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Fort Smith, were at 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. Ron Clark officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She was a native of LaFeria, Texas, daughter of the late Joseph and Zelma Cochran Unland, widow of Junior Glen Mathews, and preceded in death by one sister, Doris Herrington; and one brother, Joseph Unland.
Survivors include four daughters, Sheri Hoff of Minneapolis, Minn., Teri Bilbe of Corpus Christi, Texas, Beth Stafford of California, and Janet Parker of Tennessee; four stepsons, Steve Mathews of Ozark, Mike Mathews of Clarksville, David Mathews of Pattensburg, Mo., and James Mathews of Perry, Okla.; one sister, Kathy Keener of Rosharon, Texas; two brothers, Dennis Unland of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Richard Aulds of Tennessee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
