Justin James
Justin James, 87, of Clarksville died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at his home.
A native of Mobley, he was a son of the late John W. and Sarah Rawlings James, former city councilman for the city of Clarksville from1967-1970, a Democratic committeeman of Johnson County, member of Johnson County Fox Hunters Association, and former baseball coach for Galloway Lumber Company baseball team.
Survivors include his widow, Fay Hardgrave James; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Brenda James of Hartman and Bobby and Glenna James of Clarksville; one brother, Earl James of Cave City; and three grandchildren, Todd James of Hartman, Eric James of Dardanelle, and Dr. Meredith James of New Haven, Conn.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Burley King officiating. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Wesley Kendrick, Charles Callahan, Jack Cecil, Verlon Harris, Bob Hurley, and Larry Guthrie.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Brooks, Don Meek, Bill Porter, and Chris Case.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Jewell E. Pokorney
Jewell E. Pokorney, 92, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late H. E. and Ora Ferguson Ruppert, graduate of Clarksville High School and Fort Smith Business College, and a retired legal secretary.
She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, H. E. and Gladys Ruppert of Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter-in-law, Marianne Lowthorp of Columbus, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Ruppert of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Dianne Masciovecchio and Kenneth J. Lowthorp, both of Columbus, Ga., and Shirley Adkins of Hamilton, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
The body was donated to the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Loissie Mae Wood
Loissie Mae Wood, 74, of Wesley died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home.
She was a native of Moonhull, daughter of the late Jasper and Elizabeth Kimball Melson, widow of Claude David Wood, member of Richland Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Kay Wood.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Wood of Clarksville and David Wood of Wesley; three daughters, Helen Tong of Clarksville, Donna Gabbard of Elkins and Norma Stephenson of Elkins; three brothers, James Melson of Altus, Paul Melson of Wesley and Sammie Melson of Salus; three sisters,Mary Russell of Van Buren, Flarncie Sloan of Springdale, and Lucy Richie of Marshall; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Richland Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Samuels officiating followed by graveside services and burial at 1 p.m. at the Cave Mountain cemetery.Arrangements were under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Darrell Lee, Shane Bradley, Jerry Stephenson,Jimmy Tong, Tim Gabbard and Eddie Wood.
Honorary pallbearers were Ted Allen, Terry Mooney and Guy Hayes.
Mary Vanderhoof
Mary Verna Vanderhoof, 88, of Clarksville died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005,at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a restaurant owner, waitress, seamstress, Catholic, daughter of the late John Peter and Mary McEachin Ahrendes, widow of Earl Vanderhoof, and was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Ahrendes.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Turner of Clarksville; one brother, Archie Ahrendes of California; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Mt. Vernon cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Brad Turner, Troy Turner, Everett Turner, and Jerry Turner.
Ruth Rosa Juanes
Ruth Rosa Juanes, three-month-old daughter of Jose and Ruth Juanes of Clarksville, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
She was born in Clarksville and was preceded in death by a grandmother,Maria Rosa Juanes.
Other survivors include grandparents, Narciso Juanes of Clarksville and Juan and Felipa Lozano of Mexico; and two sisters, Cindy Juanes and Nancy Juanes, both of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. William Wewers, O. S. B., officiating.
Burial was at Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Vaunda Jo Graves
Vaunda Jo Graves, 74, of Hagarville died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at her home.
A native of the Jamestown Community, she was a daughter of the late John Albert and Alta Annie Rhett Ralph, graduate of Clarksville High School, and attended the Strawberry Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years Verlon Graves; two daughters,Sue Taylor of Tulsa, Okla., and Karen Pittman of Sand Springs, Okla.;three sons, John Graves of Tulsa, Okla., David Graves of Avant, Okla.,and Michael Graves of Sand Springs, Okla.; three sisters, Ada Kessler of Lamar, Ann Miller of Arcadia, Okla., and Linda West of Fort Smith;one brother, Don Ralph of Florida; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Strawberry Assembly of God Church with Rev. George Willis officiating.
Burial was in Hagarville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Dean Taylor, Danny Taylor, Dennis Taylor, Justin Newton, Tyler Newton, Adam Graves, Joseph Graves, and Jesse Graves.
Benita Jane Murray
Benita Jane Daniel Murray, 57, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at her home.
She was a certified nurses aide and daughter of the late Daniel W. Daniel.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Saenz of McAllen, Texas, Audra Richardson of Clarksville and Michelle Vigorito of Redding, Calif.; three sons, Daniel Fetters of Fort Bragg, N. C., Dennis Fetters of Mountain View, Calif., and Gary Murray of Ozark, Mo.; mother, Aletha (Lisa) Fivecoat Maxfield of Altus; two sisters, Pamela Mitchell Burns of Harlingen, Texas, and Anita Sue Daniel of Freer, Texas; two brothers, Carl Dennis Daniel of Edgefield, S. C. and Daniel Wayne Daniel of Harlingen, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at the Jamestown Assembly of God Church with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was private. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Dorothy M. Brown
Graveside services and burial for Dorothy Marie Brown, 80, of Van Buren, who died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, in Van Buren, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Fort Douglas cemetery with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
She was employed in food service management for 30-plus years and was preceded in death by one sister, Lorene Stone; and one brother, Vernan Stone.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Brown; one sister, Elsie Peoples of Johnson County; and several nieces and nephews.
