Martha E. Bates
Martha E. Bates, 55, of Clarksville died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at her home.
She was a native of the Cato Community in Pulaski County, daughter of the late Amos and Ellen Roberts, former owner of the Gingerbread Doll House, attended Hedgeway Church, and was preceded in death by one son,Johnny Ray Bates.
Survivors are her husband, Jim Bates; one daughter and son-in-law,Joyce and Chris Price of Clarksville; two sons and one daughter-in-law,Michael and Charlene Bates of Lamar and Billy and Gretchen Bates of Cabot; two sisters, Nancy Helfrich of Newport and Patricia Berry of Jacksonville; one brother, Billy Roberts of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren, Brittney Merritt and Hunter Merritt, both of Clarksville; Evan Bates, Austin Bates, Taylor Beeman and Lindsey Beeman, all of Cabot, and Zach Thomas and Morgan Thomas, both of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Alexander officiating. The body will be cremated.
Maggie S. Woodard
Maggie Sarah Woodard, 83, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 15, 2005,at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late George and Sally Catron Berry, widow of Ward Woodard, and member of the Jamestown Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Anna Pauline Williams of Clarksville;one son, Ward Woodard Jr. of Sallisaw, Okla.; one sister, Ada Ezell of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; one brother, Maynard Berry of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Carter cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pennie Diane Holt
Pennie Diane Holt, 46, of Clarksville died Monday, March 14, 2005, at her home.
She was an employee of Sara Lee Hosiery.
Survivors are her husband, Randy Holt; one son, Billy Don Cast of Lake Jackson, Texas; three stepdaughters, Amy Howell and husband, Hunter, of Coal Hill and Kerri and Vanessa Holt of Clarksville; parents, John and Barbara Wilson of Portland, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Phil Barclay of Portland, Texas; one brother, Craig Wilson of Portland, Texas; and one grandchild.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Holt officiating. Burial will be in Lamar cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jarrad Callahan, James Callahan, Kenneth Kennedy, Roger Holman, Eugene Hill and Mike Holt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Holt and Raymond Holt.
Tommy J. Doss
Tommy J. Doss, 58, of Coal Hill died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at St.Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a retired mechanic draftsman, member of the Coal Hill Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 383, and Scottish Rites, and was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Ruth Doss Wygle, and parents, Tom and Odie Elizabeth Doss.
Survivors include his wife, Shelba Haney Doss; one son, Tommy Aaron Doss of Altus; one brother, Jimmy R. Doss of Springdale; and three grandchildren, Kori Erin Doss of Clarksville and Kaytlyne Elizabeth Doss and Kolby Ethan Doss, both of Coal Hill.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Coal Hill Baptist Church with Rev. David Qualls and Rev. Dennis Reynolds officiating.
Burial was in Houston cemetery at Altus under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Matthew Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Thomas Doss, Glyndell Bramlett, Philip Taylor, Gerald Bartlett, Earl Calder, and Jim Rofkahr.

Edna Williams
Edna Williams, 92, of Ozark died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Ozark.
A native of Ozone, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Lucinda Logan Warren, widow of Irvin Williams, and a member of Ozark First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Hattie Harris, Barbara Tompkins and Ruth Lipe, all of Ozark; two sons, Robert Lee Williams of Grass Valley,Calif., and Raymond Williams of Safford, Ariz.; two sisters, Lois Cowan of Sacramento, Calif., and Marie Kaufman of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Arlie Warren of Texas; 11 grandchildren; 17great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Highland cemetery at Ozark with Rev. Ted Darling officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Berniece Cochran
Berniece Cochran went to be with the Lord Sunday March 20, 2005.
She was born in Haskell, Texas, July 25, 1931. Daughter of the late Monroe and Inez Chenault Gordy. Berniece was united in marriage to Owen Cochran for 54 years. She was a homemaker, beloved wife and mother who devoted her life to her family, friends and church, graduate of Sunray High School, Sunray, Texas, member of First Baptist Church, Morrilton, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Gordy.
Survivors include her husband, Owen W. Cochran, one son, Owen Eddie Cochran of Morrilton, Arkansas, daughters, Mary Klase, Enterprise, Alabama, Judy Click and husband, Kenny, Amarillo, Texas, Gwen Dillow and husband, David, Grapevine, Texas, Joyce Philpotts and husband, Don, Marietta, Georgia, brother, Robert Gordy, Skellytown, Texas, sister, Lucille Moore, Amarillo, Texas, sister-in-law, Genevieve Gordy, Denver City, Texas, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, March 23, First Baptist Church, Morrilton, Arkansas, with Dr. Bill Brown officiating, burial will be at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas by Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Philpotts, Jake Philpotts, Alan Laney, Sid Laney, Fill Neeley, Clay Neeley, Shane Klase.
Family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, Morrilton, Arkansas.
Carl J. Morgan
Carl Jacob Morgan, 80, of Lamar died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
A native of Lamar, he was a son of the late George L. Morgan Sr. and Christina Kauffeld Morgan, 1944 graduate of Clarksville High School, lifelong member of Mt. Olive Methodist Church, cattle farmer, USDA food inspector, Army veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion Bunch Walton Post No. 22, Disabled American Veterans, and Johnson County Cattlemen's Association, a peach and strawberry grower, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and George L. Morgan Jr., and one sister, Eileen Griffith.
Survivors are his wife, Lena Fuller Morgan; one son and daughter-in-law, David Carl and DeAnna Morgan of Lamar; one brother, Harold Morgan of St. Charles, Mo.; two grandsons, Jonathan Morgan of Lamar and Rocky Morgan and wife, Ashley, of Clarksville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Mt. Olive Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Thurman and Rev. Steve Wingo officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

John W. Bowen
Graveside services and burial for John William Bowen, 86, of Vilonia, who died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt with Rev. George Willis officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
He was a son of the late Myron and Mary Ellen Wilson Bowen, Baptist, served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by three sisters, Jewell Lacey of Las Vegas, Nev., Rose Thompson of Reedley, Calif., and Odell Lawson of Burns, Okla.; and four brothers, Myron Bowen and James Hoyt Bowen, both of Ozark, Jay R. Bowen and wife, Ann, of Fayetteville; and Edwin Bowen of Wichita, Kan.
