Joyce Mae Morgan
Joyce Mae Morgan, 83, of Lamar died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Artie Bell Crisp Morgan and was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Gatley; and two brothers, Bo and Bill Morgan.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Hartman cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Mollie C. Liggett
Mollie Mae Smith Collins Liggett, 83, of Springdale, mother of Eunice Garland of Clarksville, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Springdale.
She was born in Ryker, the daughter of William and Denia Bryant Smith, and was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her five children, Spencer Collins; and her second husband, Thomas Liggett.
She is survived by one son, Tony Collins of Jasper; three other daughters, Artie Swafford and husband, Sherman, of Springdale, Maxine Minnis and husband, Jim, and Gloria Ouderkirk and husband, Don, all of Belle Plaine, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, at the chapel of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with Dotson Collins officiating. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery in Springdale.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Minnis, Spencer O'Daniel, James Stuckey, Jim O'Daniel, Tony Foulk, and Kevin Sparks.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Johnston and Dean Reeves II.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home.
Mack A. Skaggs
Mack Arthur Skaggs, 60, of Springdale, formerly of Johnson County, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in Springdale.
A native of Oark, he was a son of the late Arlie and Bessie Reed Skaggs, 32-year employee of Tyson Foods, and was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Denece Skaggs; two daughters, Marsha Parker of Elkins and Rebecca Skaggs of Rogers; one son, James McArthur Skaggs of Alexander; five sisters, Robbie Skaggs of Bradenton, Fla., Lura Madewell of Fayetteville, Carolyn Turner of Springdale, Leta Mae White of Nob Hill, Louvella Shirey of Rogers; four brothers, Loyd, Doyle, David and Ben Skaggs, all of Springdale; and three grandchildren, Christopher and Zack Parker and Chelsea Bowen.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with Rev. Dorsey Martin and Rev. Elvon Wolf officiating. Interment was at 2:30 p.m. at Oark cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Skaggs, David Skaggs Jr., John Curtis Skaggs, Josh Skaggs, Jess Chaddick, and David Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Wylie Luther and Pastor Rodriquez.
Nerine Brandt
Nerine Brandt, 83, of Jenks, Okla., died Friday, June 24, 2005, at Grace Living Center in Jenks, Okla.
A native of the Mt. Levi Community, she was a daughter of the late Martin Hanson and May Graves Lund, widow of Floyd Brandt, former resident of Advance and Sikeston, Mo., owner-operator of Brandt's Market and member of the General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther Lund, Martin Lund and Tom Lund; and one sister, Jean Stepp.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Floyd Rayburn and Sally Brandt of Hobbs, N. M.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Martin Thurstin of St. Charles, Mo., Judy and John Skaggs of St. Louis, Mo., and Bonita Martin of Jenks, Okla.; two sisters, Wilma Smithpeters of Westland, Mich., and Ann Francis of Advance, Mo.; numerous grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Landess Chapel with Rev. Robert Frandis officiating. Burial was at Park cemetery in Malden, Mo.
Sidney Belle Nash
Sidney Belle Cazort Nash, 82, of Edmonds, Wash., died March 25, 2005, at her home.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Sidney and Myrtle Webb Cazort, member of the WAVE in the U. S. Navy during World War II, graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, former school teacher in Arkansas and at St. Nicholas in Seattle, Wash., a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was preceded in death by one son, Paul.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Nash.
Almeda F. Umholtz
Almeda Flossie Umholtz, 92, of Ozark, mother of Curtis Umholtz of Clarksville, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, in Clarksville.
A native of Fort Smith, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Harriet Allsat Dobson, widow of George W. Umholtz, Pentecostal, and was preceded in death by two grandsons, Charles Darter and Jerry Patton; and two granddaughters, Nancy Bookout and Melody Prachyl.
She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara J. Sanders and Bertha and Paul Williams, all of Ozark, Eva E. Patton of Altus, and Geneva and Fred Stover of Fort Smith; one other son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Dorothy Umholtz of Springtown, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Dolly Dee and Kenneth Newman of California; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hurbert and Betty Lou Dobson of Arkoma, Okla., and Clifford and Estelle Dobson of Fort Smith; numerous grandchildren including three granddaughters and spouses, Marie and Scott Salisbury of Altus, Rebecca and Earl Collins of Alix, and Teresa and Robert Dana of Ozark; and numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial to follow in the Hickory Ridge cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenny, Alan and Jerry Umholtz, Shawn Kirkpatrick, Bobby and Todd Sanders, and Burt and Mark Stover.
Bill H. Sullivan
Funeral for Bill H. Sullivan, 87, of Fort Smith was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with Rev. George Crowden officiating.
Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Chris Sullivan, Brad Sullivan, Marshall Fender and Wade Fender.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Sullivan died Friday, July 1, 2005, at Fort Smith Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home. He was a son of the late John and Ella McGuire Sullivan, candy deliverer and was known as "The Candyman," a salesman, World War II Navy veteran, member of Trinity Baptist Church of Fort Smith, and was preceded in death by his wife, Weda Sullivan; one daughter, Judy Fender; and one grandson, Brian Sullivan.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debra Sullivan of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren, Chris Sullivan and wife, Kira, of Van Buren, Brad Sullivan of Dallas, Texas, Marshall Fender of Tahlequah, Okla., and Wade Fender of Florida.
Iva Mae Pyron
Iva Mae Pyron, 74, of Paris died Sunday, July 3, 2005, in Paris.
She was a gas station owner/operator, Pentecostal, widow of Loy Glen Pyron, daughter of the late Ted C. Columbus Penland, and was preceded in death by one son, Gary Glen Pyron.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirlene Ricketts of Altus; two sons, Ray Pyron and Ronnie Pyron, both of Altus; mother, Nettie Sampley Penland of Idaho; two sisters, Wanda Sharpton of Idaho and Sue Hurt of Van Buren; one brother, Bobby Penland of Ozark; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sammy Alverson and Rev. Ronnie Lee officiating. Burial will be in Nichols Chapel cemetery at Altus.
Active pallbearers will be Don Phillips, Raymond Becker, Donald Hurst, Lynn Day, Jack McCormick, and Jimmy Cline.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Pyron, Hershal Pyron, Rick Pyron, Jim Gowing, Robert Ferguson, Kevin Hurt, and Mike Jones.
