C. J. Thomas

C. J. Thomas, 76, of Oark died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at his home.
He was a native of Health, son of the late Clyde Jesse and Effie France Thomas, member of Clarksville Country Club, former general manager of McBride Distributing Company, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and retired from the United States Navy as a chief petty officer after serving 20 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Thomas; one brother, Bobbie Lee Thomas; and one great-grandson, Chase Jordan Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, Msg. Terry S. Thomas of Fayetteville, N. C., and Timothy S. Thomas of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one daughter, Susan Pfeifler of Oark; three sisters, Lynn Hawkins, Juanita Wells and Sue Stockburger, all of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Christina Scott, Jesse and Samantha Thomas, and Matt and Anna Pfeifler; and two great-grandchildren, Kristalin Branch and Kylie Scott.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Prairie Grove Christian Church in Prairie Grove with Monte Shoemake officiating.
Burial was in the Farmington cemetery under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Mark Jordan, Dave Pfeifler, Tim Thomas, Matt Pfeifler, Rick Haegele, and Butch Thomas.

Helen Jestice

Helen Jestice, 81, of Hartman died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Russellville.
She was a native of Waveland, daughter of the late Floyd and Zelia Shott Frame, member of the Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Floyd Frame; and one sister, Muriel McCourt.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years L. O. (Bud) Jestice; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jimmy Stokes of Franklin, Tenn., and Darlene and Dave Deal of Baton Rouge, La.; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Donna Jestice of Hartman; four brothers, Herbert and Wendell Frame of Centerville, Don Frame of Danville, and James Frame of Broken Arrow, Okla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Cornwell Chapel in Danville with John McCourt and Dave Deal officiating. Burial was in Havana cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Jestice, Tommy Miner, Jason Dopson, Bryan Stokes, Jeff Stokes, and Daniel Deal.

John W. Cooper Sr.

John Wesley Cooper Sr., 65, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at his home.
He was a son of the late Jasper and Beulah Hix Cooper, native of Dresden, Tenn., Army veteran, member of the Republican party, former iron worker and real estate salesman at Bella Vista, and was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Cooper; seven brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jewell and Mike Bray of Bella Vista; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John W. (Tonya) Cooper Jr. of Bella Vista and Mr. and Mrs. Jason (Rose) Cooper of Clarksville; and eight grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Leo Morris

Leo Morris, 54, of Fort Smith, brother of Danny Phelps of Coal Hill and Larry Hurst of Hartman, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Fort Smith.
He was an employee of Fort Smith Structural Steel.
Survivors are his wife, Gracie: four sons, Herbert, David, Charles and Christopher, all of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Hembree of Van Buren, Sharon Trout of Panama and Christine Thomas of Jacksonville; one other brother, Edward Morris of Fort Smith; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Mary Jean Hull

Mary Jean Hull, 77, of Russellville, formerly of Lamar, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Jarvis and Cora Elanor Town Jones, widow of James I. Hull, and a Pentecostal.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Wheeldon of Russellville, Betty Villines of Lamar and Debbie Mays of Belton, Mo.; one son, David Hull of Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Oakland Street Church in Clarksville with Rev. Carl Sory officiating.
Burial was in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Britt Carney, Jerry Linker, Doug Harp, Roy Clayborn, Ryan Hull, and Jackie Clayborn.

Opal J. Spitler

Opal Juanita Spitler, 80, of Lamar died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005.
She was a daughter of the late Pete and Myrtle Sparks Holt, widow of Harley T. Spitler, was of the Assembly of God faith, and was preceded in death by one son, Burley Spitler; two brothers, Richard and Elmer Holt; and one sister, Jewell Holt.
She is survived by four daughters, Rita Spitler of Lamar, Rosetta Jones and husband, Jimmy, of Arkoma, Okla., Lois Bohannon and husband, Jerry, of Hunt, and Shirley Chamberlain and husband, Rod, of Dexter, Mo.; three sons, Thomas Spitler and wife, Paula, of Dover, Elmer Spitler of Mayfield, Ky., and Kenneth Spitler and wife, Janet, of Sikeston, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Phillis Spitler of Sikeston, Mo.; two brothers, Gene Holt of Lamar and Wilburn Holt of Stites, Idaho; two sisters, Gladys Sparks of Clarksville and Ruby Coleman of Dennison, Texas; several grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Roller-Cox Chapel with burial in Lamar cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeremy Paiz, Darrin Dossett, Chris Wilson, Chris Holt, Randy Smith, and Junior Ashlock.
Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Spitler, Kenneth Spitler, Ricky Spitler, Jerry Bohannon, Jimmy Jones, Steve Holt, Rick Holt, and Derek McCarley.

Robert B. Emerson

Robert Bruce Emerson, 64, of Hagarville died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Stephen and Maude Johnson Emerson; retired television technician, and was preceded in death by one son, Larry Cowell; three brothers, Alvin, Paul and Carl Emerson; and one sister, Wanda Corallis.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Joe Evelyn Roper Emerson; five daughters, Donna and Danita Emerson, both of Alaska, Dana Moose of Gold Hill, N. C., Linda O'Neal of Springdale and Charlotte Williams of Rogers; two sons, Ronald Cowell of Lutherville and Vernon Newgent of the home; two brothers, Stephen Emerson Jr. of Smithville and Bill Emerson of Troy, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Mt. Pisgah in Sharp County with Rev. Stephen Emerson III officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

William Arlon Bean

William Arlon Bean, 80, of Lamar died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a native of the East Mount Zion Community, son of the late Auddie R. and Alice Sain Bean, member of Lamar Baptist Church, attended Lamar Schools, Navy veteran of World War II, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Archie Lee Bean and Mary Crowden, and three brothers, Inrey, Arnold and Ira Bean.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bean; four daughters, Marsha King of London, Kelly Bean of Little Rock, Barbara Robinson of Ozark, and Arlene Tucker of Marion; one son, William Arlon Bean Jr. of Centerville; five sisters, Savelle Schrock of Russellville, Rena Dale of London, Joan Clark of Clarksville, Lela Jean Freeman of Washington, and Sallie Ryan of Arizona; three brothers, David Bean of California, and Glenn Bean and Gale Bean, both of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the East Mount Zion cemetery with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
