Jack E. Walters
Jack E. Walters, 86, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
A native of Howe, Okla., he was a retired coal miner and Colonial bread salesman for 35 years, Navy veteran of World War II, member of Bunch Walton Post No. 22 of the American Legion, and was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Vozel Walters.
Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Micky Patterson of Greenwood and Jayne and Stephen Usery of St. Paul, Minn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Leandra Walters of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Jim and Charlotte Walters of Clarksville; grandchildren, Jon and Danny Walters and James and Jaki Walters, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Joe Walters of Tigard, Ore., Blake Patterson of Fayetteville, and Sarah and Larry Perreault of Lakeville, Minn.; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Rose Sargent and Jaxon Connor Perreault.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Wewer, O.S.B., and Rev. Billy Usery officiating.
Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Fort Smith under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jon Walters, Joe Walters, James Walters, Danny Walters, Larry Perreault, and Randy Palmer.
Lee L. Wall
Lee L. (Percy) Wall, 84, of Fort Smith, formerly of Clarksville, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Hugh L. and Jettie Spicer Wall, 1940 graduate of Coal Hill High School, member of Coal Hill VFW, Ferguson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coal Hill and Army Air Corps of World War II, retired route man for Acme Industrial Laundry in Fort Smith, and was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Douglas Wall; one brother, Hugh L. Wall Jr.; and one sister, Doss Highfill.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Douglas Wall; one daughter, Mary Nell Donoho and husband, Tommy Donoho Jr. of Little Rock; one sister, Ila Ferguson of Muskogee, Okla.; three brothers, Otto Wall and wife, Norma Jean, of Coal Hill, Russell Wall and wife, Jolene, of Branson, Mo., and Earl Wall and wife, Annabel, of Frisco City, Ala.; and one grandson, Tommy Donoho III and wife, Leanne, of Fayetteville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Ferguson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coal Hill with Burley King and Bob King officiating.
Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Roy Elkins, Edward Bean, David Hutchinson, Richard Bullard, Mark Kesner and Don Robert Hurst.
Honorary pallbearers were Clayborn Freeman, Bentley Yates and Alan Bryant.
Olita F. Stockton
Olita Fay Stockton, 56, of Hartman died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 64 in Franklin County.
She was a daughter of the late Ella Mae Nichols and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Missy Stockton McCabe and Mark McCabe of Clarksville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Donna Brousseau and Butch Brousseau, all of Hartman; father, Cecil F. Nichols of Clarksville; five brothers, Alan Nichols of Clarksville, Steve Nichols of Russellville, Doug and Roger Nichols, both of Hunt, and James Nichols of Ozark; four sisters, Bernetta Loretta Cooper of Ozark, Linda Sue Johnson and Nellie Mae Johnson, both of Lamar, and Gladys Rachael Pitts of Hartman; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Johnson, Seth Johnson, Chad Johnson, Josh Brousseau, Jimmy Brousseau Jr., and Jesse Stockton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Nichols and Billy Fox.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Raymond Wakefield
Raymond Samuel Wakefield, 85, of Fort Smith, father of Ray G. Wakefield of Clarksville, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005.
He was a retired captain for the Fort Smith Fire Department, retired painting contractor, member of First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one son, Donald.
Other survivors are his wife, Mary Frances Lewis Wakefield; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the U. S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Ray Wakefield Jr., Corey Wakefield, Scott Erwin, Jason Shepherd, and Terry and Jim Lewis.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368.
Audra M. Cowan
Audra Monroe Cowan, 87, of Fort Smith died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005.
He was a native of the Harmony Community, son of the late George Monroe and Cornelia Rhea Cowan, attended Harmony school, graduated from Clarksville High School and the University of the Ozarks, and received a master of music education degree from the University of Oklahoma.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, the Western Arkansas Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and the Community Band of Western Arkansas.
While attending the University of the Ozarks, he taught band at Coal Hill for two years. Following graduation from college, he taught band at Indianola, Okla., for two years prior to entering the U. S. Army in 1942. He played in an Army band and took officer's training at Fort Benning, Ga. He fought with the infantry across France, Belgium, and Germany. He received the Purple Heart in September 1944. He received a medical retirement with the rank of captain in December 1946. He taught band in Clarksville, Sheridan, Ozark and Ramsey Junior High School until retiring in 1983. He was selected by the Arkansas Bandmasters Association as "Bandmaster of the Year" in 1975 and inducted into the Arkansas Bandmasters Hall of Fame. In 1990, he received the distinguished alumnus award of the class of 1940 from the University of the Ozarks.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Margaret King Cowan; one daughter, Kathryn Rice and husband, Bruce, of Fort Smith; three sons, David Cowan and wife, Terry, of Little Rock, Donald Cowan of Dallas, Texas, and Kenneth Cowan and wife, Susan, of Fort Smith; two granddaughters, Sarah Cowan of Jackson, Miss., and Rachel Cowan of Fort Smith; and four grandsons, Patrick Cowan of Little Rock, Kendall Rice of New Haven, Conn., and Daniel Rice and Phillip Cowan, both of Fort Smith.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Central Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith with Rev. Tom Ulrich officiating followed by burial at 2:30 p.m. in Oakland cemetery at Clarksville. Arrangements were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Stanley Cate, W. N. Shaver III, Richard Peer, Ronald Garner, Leighnora Buchanan, Ralph Riley, Gene Maddux, Steve Kesner and the grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 2901 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72903, the Western Arkansas Alzheimer's Association, 320 N. Greenwood Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901, or the Fountain of Youth Day Adult Day Care Center, 2409 S. 56th, Suite 121, Fort Smith, AR 72903.
Nettie Jacobs
Nettie Jacobs, 96, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late John Franklin and Savannah Smith Bridges, widow of Roy Jacobs, and member of Johnson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and Landmark Missionary Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Oren Bridges and Erna Bridges, and one sister, Lennie Randle.
She is survived by two sisters, Magdalene Dobbs and Lucy Jacobs, both of Clarksville; one brother, Olen Bridges and wife, Doris, of Camargo, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Bass and Don Gillam officiating.
Burial was in Kendall cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Mike Young, Brian Syfert, Chris Case, Bridges Crumrine, Bobby Jacobs, and James Allen Bridges.
