Obie Zearl Melson

Funeral for Obie Zearl Melson, 91, of Cave City, who died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Oark Community Building with Rev. Freida Turney officiating.
Burial was in Oark cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Vincent Walls, Robert Hyler, Steve Moore, Phillip Clem, Lee Lawyer, and Troy Shetrone.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Turney, Stanley Vaught, and Junior Young.
He was a member of the Church of God in Cave City, farmer, son of the late Benjamen Harrison and Julie Emiline Bohannon Melson, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Bondell Melson; one daughter, Betty June Young; two brothers, Odis Earl and Francis M. Melson; and one sister, Dela Dickerson.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Melson; one son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Rebecca Melson of Prairie Grove; four stepdaughters, Geraldine McClendon of Marianna, Freida Turney and Louise King, both of Cave City, and Pam Prater of Oklahoma; one stepson, Tommy Chastain of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Willie R. Dobbs

Willie R. Dobbs, 91, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late William Andrew and Marrietta Dobbs, served three-plus years on the front lines in World War II, and was employed as an aircraft painter at Tinker Air Force Base for 26 years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marlene.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred Dobbs; one son, David of the home; one grandson, Jason; and one granddaughter, Ericka Wallace.

Louise Roberts

Louise (Pete) Roberts, 85, of Coal Hill died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at her home.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late James Andrew and Anna Mae Reed Rigsby, widow of Earl Roberts, and was preceded in death by one son, Carl David Roberts.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean Whitecotton of Coal Hill; three grandchildren, Melanie Apple and husband, Bradley, of Belleville, Allison Whitecotton of Clarksville and Lance Whitecotton of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Logan Apple of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Shady Grove cemetery with Roy Shook officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

David K. Laster

David King Laster, 81, of the Harmony Community died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005.
He was a native of the Harmony Community, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham (Mabel King) Laster Sr., and grandson of the late James Monroe and Louisa Turney Laster and the late Dr. Reuben Ephraim and Jessie Ogden King.
He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, attended the Woodland Baptist Church and Lamar Baptist Church, and was a former employee of Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., and the Pop Cola Company, Bob Rogers Auto Parts, Western Auto Associate Store, the Singer Company and Whitson-Morgan Motor Company, all of Clarksville.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Ingram Laster; two daughters, Janet Vire and husband, Clyde, of Clarksville and Vicki Rice of North Little Rock; two brothers, Abe Laster Jr. and Gerald Laster, both of Clarksville; one sister, Juanelle Wyers of Clarksville; three grandchildren and spouses, Christy and Steve Beebe of Rincon, Ga., John Mark and Lacy Vire of Clarksville, and Bart and Misty Taylor of North Little Rock; and six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordon and Justice Beebe, Joby and Cory Vire, and Kate Taylor.
Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Harmony cemetery with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Bart Taylor, John Vire, Steve Beebe, Dale Meek, Donald Meek, and Walter Nowotny.

Gladys D. Moore

Gladys D. Moore, 100, of Clarksville, Arkansas passed away at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Arkansas on October 11, 2005.
She was born on October 26, 1904, in Harmony, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Jerd and Delia Gould of Harmony, Arkansas. She graduated from College of the Ozarks, Clarksville, in 1929 and went on to teach high school for 9 years.
On December 29, 1937 she married Fred W. Moore, they resided in Spearville, Kansas and had a long time career in the farming business until his death in 1978. She then returned to Clarksville to be near her sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Arabelle and husband, Richard Wade of Benton, Arkansas and Joy Bartley of Edmond, Oklahoma; one grandson, Rich and wife, Llona Wade; three granddaughters, Pam and husband, Tom Cluff, Aralea and husband, Tim Seachris, Analea and husband, Bill Noble; twelve great-grandchildren, Nicolaus Wade, Ashley Cluff-Havenar and husband, Brad Havenar, Joshuah Cluff, Tabitha Wade, Trevor Seachris, Tate Seachris, Audra Seachris, Ramsey Noble, Kassidy Noble, Alexander Cluff, and Jarrod Cluff; six step-great-grandchildre, James and wife, Becky Thompson, Justin Thompson, John Thompson, Kathryn Vessey, and Airel Vessey; and one sister, OreMae Gotcher of Clarksville.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Arch Gould, Argus Gould, King Gould, Orvan Gould; two sisters, Scottie Miracle and Amy Harmon; and one great-grandchild, Kyle Wade.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Harmony, Arkansas with Rev. Burnett King officiating. Graveside services and burial were Monday, Oct. 17, in Great Bend, Kan.
Pallbearers were Rich Wade, T. C. Cluff, Tim Seachris, Bill Noble, Nicolaus Wade, Joshuah Cluff and Trevor Seachris.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Margaret Walker

Margaret Walker, 95, a former Clarksville resident, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005.
A native of Chicago, Ill., she was the widow of Orgil Walker; and was preceded in death by one daughter, Geraldine Gwartney; one granddaughter, Kathy Kendall; and one grandson, Rex Gwartney.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dorothy Kendall of Citrus Heights, Calif., Virginia and Jack King of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Patricia and George Menchaca of Vallejo, Calif.; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Delores Walker of Santa Rosa, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Camellia Memorial Lawn under the direction of Nicoletti, Culjis and Herberger in Sacramento, Calif.

Rachel D. Schneider

Rachel Darlene Schneider, 33, of Clarksville died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse W. Gray; and two sisters, Lisa Renee and Lori Ann Gray.
Survivors include her husband, William K. Schneider; one son, William Cody Schneider of Clarksville; mother, Darlene Shelly Gray of Clarksville; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jesse Vance and Misty Gray of Fort Smith and Mace and Crystal Gray, Falon and Kathryn Gray and Billy Jack Gray, all of Clarksville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina Gray and Shea Duffel of Clarksville and Valerie and Bradford Day of Lamar; 11 nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Alexander officiating. Burial was in Holman cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mace Gray, Falon Gray, Jesse Vance Gray, Billy Jack Gray, Bradford Day, and Zeke Herrod.

Sharon Van Nort

Sharon Kay Harris Van Nort, 62, of Russellville, mother of Kay Lynn Bruce of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was a native of Russellville, daughter of the late George and Norma Kathleen Bell Harris, member of Chapter No. 606 of the Order of Eastern Star in Russellville, American Legion No. 20 in Russellville, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in Russellville where she was a past commander, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3141 in Dardanelle for 30 years serving as auxiliary president for three years during which time she received the "President of the Year" award. She was active in the Senior Citizens Center for three years, served as president of the Sight Council for one year, retired cosmetologist, member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Scott and Mattie Bell, and paternal grandparents, Boss and Mattie Harris.
Other survivors include her husband of 21 years Samuel E. Van Nort; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and Melanie Kelley of Russellville and Greg Kelley of Pottsville; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Michelle Harris of Russellville; four grandchildren, Brett and Riley Kelley, Jessica Kelley, and Talina Tankersley and husband, Josh; two great-grandchildren, Paige Kathleen and Jake Westen Tankersley; and two nephews, J. J. Harris and Daniel Hinson, both of Russellville.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Shinn Funeral Service Chapel in Russellville with Rev. David Scroggin and Rev. Blake Bradford officiating. Burial was private.
