John W. Jennings

John Walter Jennings, 61, of Knoxville died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Walter Virgil and Viola Chavers Davis Jennings, Army veteran, member of Bethel Baptist Church at Knoxville, and was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Tamsey Chavers; and paternal grandparents, Walter and Elizabeth Jennings.

He is survived by three daughters, Susan Smith and husband, William, of Coal Hill, Angela Jennings of Clarksville and Johnnie Nicole (Nicky) Jennings and companion, Eddie Williams, of Lamar; stepmother, Irene Jennings of Hartman; two sisters, Bonnie Nichols and husband, Bob, of Knoxville and Kathy Smith and husband, Lee, of Hartman; three brothers, David Jennings of Russellville, Donnie Jennings and wife, Flora, of Scranton, and Billy Rosemier and wife, Faye, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren, Savannah Vire and husband, Jonathan, Brooke Smith, Zachary Smith, Thomas Johnson, Felicia Johnson and Slade Bean; nieces and nephews, William Nichols, Shelia and Neal Pitts, and Matthew and Tracie Nichols; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Bethel Baptist Church at Knoxville with Pastor Lee Cording officiating.

Burial will be in Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Rosemier, Nathan Pitts, Lee Smith, Junior Anglin, Shawn Nichols, and Nick Coffron.

Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Chavers, Caleb Nichols, Bob Nichols, Matt Nichols, T. J. Johnson, Zach Smith, Donnie Jennings, David Jennings, William E. Nichols, Neal Pitts and C. N. Chavers.

Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Johnny Edwards Jr.

Johnny Edwards Jr., 73, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

He was a native of Seiling, Okla., son of the late Johnny and Lillie Jane Carter Edwards, retired welder and fabricator, and attended the Clarksville First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Cordova and husband, Willie, of Albuquerque, N. M., and Stacy Flint and husband, Bert, of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; three sons, Steve Edwards and wife, Terry, of Hudson, Colo., Rick Edwards of Greeley, Colo., and Donnie Edwards of Canyon City, Colo.; five sisters, Lorrene Payton, Marie Fuller, and Fran Carter, all of Fort Smith, Geneva Childers of Clarksville, and Carole Husstetler of Kansas; one brother, Dwayne Edwards of Dover; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and companion, Ruby Hunter of Clarksville.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Clarksville First Assembly of God Church with Willie Cordova officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mary Jo Morgan

Mary Jo Morgan, 72, of Ozark died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Ozark.

Born on Aug. 23, 1936, she was a native of the Spadra Community, daughter of the late Thomas Alexander and Ollie Eugene Kilcrease Skidgel and widow of Larry K. Morgan, whom she married on April 1, 1974 in Ozark. She was a retired nurse, member of the Fernwood Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Parilee Morris, Maude Skidgel, and Patricia (Pat) Maute; and six brothers, Robert (Bob) Skidgel, Eugene (Gene) Skidgel, Paul Skidgel, Harold Skidgel, Johnnie Skidgel and Charles Skidgel.

Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Marvel and husband, Jettie Ray, of Altus, Sherry Rofkahr and companion, Harv Williams of Barling and Sheila Rogers and companion, David Clayborn of Lamar; one son, Randy Rofkahr of Clarksville; one brother, Thomas Skidgel of Clarksville; nine grandchildren, Michelle Scholtes of Pea Ridge, Wesley Marvel and Tara Hewes, both of Fort Smith, Melissa Moore, Amanda Cloos, Derrick McCartney, and Gena Mayfield, all of Ozark, Cody Mayfield of Altus, and David (Norm) Clayborn of Lamar; and 13 great-grandchildren, Tyler Marvel, Monte (Tripp) Canady, Taylor Moore, Kelsey McCartney, Emma Scholtes, Trevor Moore, Austin Bartlett, Jacob (Max) Scholtes, Ava McCartney, Cameron Cloos, Ashton Carney, Devon Hughes, and Brooklynn Hughes.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Burial was in Highland cemetery at Ozark.

Active pallbearers were Harv Williams, Mark Scholtes, Kiley Moore, Mark Cloos, Derrick McCartney, Cody Mayfield, Wesley Marvel and Robert Guy.

Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, son, and sons-in-law, Jettie Ray Marvel, Randy Rofkahr, David Clayborn, Michelle Scholtes, Melissa Moore, Amanda Cloos, Gena Mayfield and David (Norm) Clayborn.

Paul Guthrie

Paul Guthrie, 81, of Concord, N. H., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008.

He was a former resident of Hartman, retired from the U. S. Army after 23 years of service as a 1st Sgt., and was preceded in death by his father, Barry Guthrie; and stepmother, Agnes Guthrie.

Survivors include his wife, Helga Guthrie; one daughter, Barbara; and one granddaughter.

Burial was Monday, Nov.3, in Concord, N. H.

Elihu Jones Jr.

Elihu Jones Jr., 83, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Hagarville, son of the late Elihu and Bethaney McAllister Jones, retired, and preceded in death by six brothers, Granville Jones, Leonard Jones, Columbus Jones, Elmer Jones, Ira Jones and an infant; and four sisters, Sara Townsend, Beulah Tumbleson, Leona Pitts and Nan Hodges.

Survivors include his wife, Flora Ellen Hodges Jones; two daughters, Delcie Tipton of Omaha and Vonnell Dybala of Martinsville, Ind.; two sons, Les Jones of West Plains, Mo., and Steve Jones of Knoxville; three sisters, Eula Owen of Lamar, Iva Rushing of Clarksville and Earlene Davis of Russellville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Minnow Creek cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shane Dybala, Delane Davis, Shannon Owen, Jesse Jones, Van Ray Page, and Paul Wayne Duvall.

Gene Phillips

Gene Phillips, 78, of Springdale, father of Sherri Payne of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at his home.

He was born in Ponca City, Okla., to Lonnie S. and Pearl Hewitt Phillips, 1948 graduate of Springdale High School, attended the University of the Ozarks where he lettered in football from 1948 to 1950, also attended the University of Arkansas in 1955, was an Eagle Scout and former scout master of Troop 112, longtime member of First Baptist Church in Springdale, and retired from Jones Truck Lines as manager of the interline department in 1991 after 29 years of service. He also worked with his father as a realtor for the Ozark Land Company from 1960 to 1967, served as staff sergeant in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Marion Juanita Phillips, Martha Helen Munson and Katherine Marie Largent.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Wilma Phillips; one son, Michael Phillips of Lowell; two other daughters, Ginger Bickerton Sampson of Seattle, Wash., and Lisa Carlin of Westlake Village, Calif.; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two nephews; and two nieces.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with Rev. Charlie Foster officiating. Burial was in the Bluff cemetery.

Hazel M. Hatchett

Hazel Marie Hatchett, 64, of Clarksville died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Owens, Wis., daughter of the late Harold Tobias and Jean Ellamae Christenson Brown, cook, member of the Johnson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and member of Stillwell Baptist Church for 28 years.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Donald Hatchett; two sons, Paul Hatchett of Siloam Springs and John Hatchett of Little Rock; two sisters, Marion Carter of Soledad, Calif., and Carol Martignoni of Gonzales, Calif.; two brothers, Roger Brown of San Ramon, Calif., and Harold Brown of Clarksville; and three grandchildren.

The body will be cremated. Local arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Stillwell Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Goodman officiating.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Stillwell Baptist Church, 117 CR 3452, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Neoma L. Bearden

Neoma Lucille Bearden, 91, of Ozark, mother of Phyllis Day of Lamar, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, in Ozark.

She was a native of Paris, daughter of the late John and Flora Keck Biggs, widow of Olen Bearden, member of Webb City Baptist Church, and a craftmaker.

She is survived by two other daughters, Freeda Everly of Van Buren and Kathy Umholtz of Overland Park, Kan.; four sons, Bill Bearden and Bob Bearden, both of Ozark, Jim Bearden of Fort Smith, and Danny Bearden of Paris; four sisters, Bernice Puckett of California, Lillian Batchelor of Van Buren, Evelyn Smith of Stockton, Mo., and Patsy Joubert of Mulberry; three brothers, Clifford Ming of Texas, Clarence Ming of Booneville, and Raymond Ming of California; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Jan Akins and Rev. Chuck Gililland officiating. Burial was in Morgan Hill cemetery at Ozark.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Webb City Baptist Church Sunday School Class.
