LaVern Harry White
LaVern Harry White, 72, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a native of Cuttbank, Mont., son of the late Harry and Alma Holman White, retired supervisor of L. A. County Parks and Recreation Heavy Equipment Division, and a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Vaughn White; one daughter, Desiree White of Clarksville; three sons, Vernon White of California, Eric White of Colorado, and Kenneth White of Clarksville; one sister, Vera Reynolds of Great Falls, Mont.; three stepchildren, Julie Bustos of California, and Sylvia Fox and Dennis Kimpton, both of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren.
The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the National cemetery at Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Robert Phillips
Robert Phillips, 84, of Hartman died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Hartman, son of the late Robert Lester and Margaret Wilson Phillips, chemist, Mason, and World War II Navy veteran having served on the USS Boston Ship.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Phillips; one daughter, Margaret Doolittle of Wichita, Kan.; two sons, Robert Phillips and wife, Sharree, of Wichita, Kan., and Carl Phillips and wife, Cindy, of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, Andrew Phillips and Catlin Phillips, both of Wichita, Kan.; one step-grandchild, Donnie Raymer; and one step-great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the Liberty Hill Church with Rev. Orla Larsen officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Ruth Kendrick
Ruth Kendrick, 81, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at her home.
She was a native of Pottsville, daughter of the late Clyde and Lois Kendrick Roberts, widow of Rev. Raymond Kendrick, graduate of Pottsville High School, member of the First Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Caudle; one grandson, Randy Caudle; and one sister, Hazel Pryor.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris McGuire of Marietta, Ga., and Barbara Metz of Pine Bluff; five sons, Wesley Kendrick of Clarksville, Gary Kendrick of Ohio, George Kendrick of Conway, Paul Kendrick of Alma, and Bill Kendrick of Searcy; one sister, Sybil Cook of Malakoff, Texas; four brothers, Bob Roberts of Springdale, Charles Roberts of Talco, Texas, Fred Roberts of McKinney, Texas, and Earl Roberts of Waxahachie, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Dade Kindrix officiating.
Burial was in Pisgah cemetery at Pottsville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Wendell Lee
Wendell Lee, 80, of Clarksville died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his home.
A native of Hunt, he was a son of the late Ervin and Varnell Pryor Lee, member of the Spadra Baptist Church, retired coal miner and heavy equipment operator with the Johnson County Road Department.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Lee; two daughters, Ava Harrison of Stigler, Okla., and Lou Ann Smith of North Little Rock; two stepdaughters, Terri Carpenter of Port Orchid, Wash., and Sharon Cochran of Clarksville; one stepson, Charles Highlander of Merced, Calif.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Oden officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt.
Active pallbearers will be Rip Teal, David Handley, Larry Brown, Jake Pace, Dale Caldwell, and James Jaggers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Rood, Randy Lee, Pete Harrison, Mike Smith, Eddie Rood, and Jason Milk.
The visitation will be open.
Frank Whorton
Frank Whorton, 87, of Cheney, Kan., died Aug. 9, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of London, son of the late Dee and Roxie Ann (Price) Whorton, U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, retired employee of Boeing after 20 years of service, former 13-year employee of North High School, member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and preceded in death by one brother, Willie B. Whorton; and two sisters, Margaret Hardgrave and Rita Joyce Price.
Survivors include his wife, Athena E. Kiner; four sons, Jerry (Marilyn) Whorton of Russellville; Lynn Whorton of Lumberton, Texas, Roger (Teresa) Whorton of Houston, Texas, and James Whorton of Peck, Kan.; three daughters, Ruby (Dennis) Sowersby of Haysville, Kan., Marcella (Loyce) Heitman of Peck, Kan., and Linda (Randy) Oliver of Cheney, Kan.; three sisters, Sena Bell Parsons of Lamar, Reba Lois Tucker of Russellville and Patsy Carothers of Ft. Worth, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Trinity United Christian Church in Cheney, Kan., with Pastor Patrick Nixon officiating.
Burial was at Fairview cemetery of Lanterman Funeral Home of Cheney, Kan.
Thomas P. Kennedy
Thomas P. Kennedy, age 60, of Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday August 2, 2009.
Tom was born November 13, 1948, in Oark, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Kizzie Kennedy; sisters, Gladys and Bobbie Sue Kennedy, Dortha Vanover and a brother, Jack Kennedy.
He is survived by three children, Tommie Sue Kennedy, Chris Jensen and Stephen Jensen; longtime girlfriend Jo Driskell; sisters Ione Valdovines, Merle Dinsmore and Loretta Everhart and a brother John Kennedy as well as grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Tom was proud to serve in the U. S. Army stationed in Vietnam where he won three metals for bravery. He was a truck driver and loved working in his beautiful yard. His sense of humor and wonderful smile will truly be missed by all who knew him.
David Kenneth Higby
David Kenneth Higby, 74, of Lamar died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Hickeytown Community, son of the late James Martin and Edith Mae Blackard Higby, retired from the U. S. Military, and was preceded in death by one sister, Clemmie Jo Higby; and two brothers, James Everett Higby and Ervin Leon Higby.
Survivors include his wife, Berniece Meimerstorf Higby; two daughters, Cindy Geels of Lamar and Diana Vaught of Clarksville; one son, David Don Higby of Rogers; one sister, Vonda Lamb of Wanette, Okla.; three brothers, Rhuel Douglas Higby of Russellville, George Allen Higby of Hunt, and Robert Earl Higby of Antlers, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Sowells officiating. Burial was in Hickeytown cemetery.

Eugene G. Flisher
Eugene G. Flisher, 75, of Hartman died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Grand River, Iowa, son of the late Albert and Goldie Downey Flisher, Army veteran, and member of West Park Baptist Church in Ozark.
He is survived by two daughters, Lesa Harrington and husband, Mark, of Owasso, Okla., and Monica Dovel and husband, Rick, of Waukee, Iowa; one son, Robert Flisher and wife, Christy, of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Fitzgerald and Donna Smith, both of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Don Flisher of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at West Park Baptist Church in Ozark with Rev. Troy Vaughn officiating.
Burial was Monday, Sept; 28, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
