Bruce Fitzgerald
Bruce Fitzgerald, age 84, of Taylor, Arkansas died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at The Springhill Medical Center in Springhill, LA. He was born December 11, 1918 in Oak Grove, AR. Mr. Fitzgerald was a retired construction worker, a member of the Beacon Baptist Church and a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lee & Nancy Wood Fitzgeral; a son, Elvis Loren Fitzgerald; and by a daughter-in-law, Sonya Fitzgerald.
He is survived by: his wife, Mattie Tavie Fitzgerald of Taylor; five sons & daughters-in-law, Bruce Fitzgerald, Jr., of Bussey, AR, Alfred & Leta Fitzgerald of Camden, AR, Milton & Lina Fitzgerald of Taylor, Douglas & Loretta Fitzgerald of Bussey, and Vernon & Kim Fitzgerald of Bussey; three brothers, Ernest of Taylor, and Sambo and Troy of Magnolia; three sisters, Imogene Eabaru of Shreveport, LA, and Genny Dean Rice and Dorothy Lawler of Bussey; seven grandchildren, Pamela & husband, Jon Wood, dustin Fitzgerald, Warren Fitzgerald, Nathan Smith, Reese Fitzgerald, Katie Fitzgerald, and DaKota and Megan Mouser.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 25, 2003 at The Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor with Rev. John Nations officiating and burial in The Bussey Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.
Fannie Mae White
Fannie Mae White, age 89, of Magnolia, Arkansas died early Tuesday morning, July 22, 2003 at The Magnolia Hospital in Magnolia, Arkansas. She was born April 23, 1914 in Stephens, Arkansas.
Mrs. White was a homemaker, a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a past writer of Community News for the Banner News. She was preceded in death by: three husbands, Albert O'Dell, Ira Mitchell and Delma White; a daughter, Willodean Miller; seven brothers, one great grandson and three sisters.
She is survived by: one daughter, Ima Jean Polk of Magnolia; two granddaughters, two grandsons, six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at The Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with the Rev. Chuck Roach officiating and burial in The Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Willisville under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Lois Davis
Lois Davis, age 83, of Atlanta, Texas died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at The Atlanta Memorial Hospital. She was born December 24, 1918 in Arkansas. Mrs. Davis was a retired homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Reba Davis.
She is survived by several cousins.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps with Bro. Mike Turner officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Carol Ann Prentice
Carol Ann Prentice, age 61, of West Memphis, Arkansas died Saturday, July 19, 2003. Mrs. Prentice was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Stamps and a past president of Lafayette County Lioness Club.
Survivors include: her husband, Larry J. Prentice of West Memphis; two daughters, Gwendolyn Zachary and Jennifer Carol Lenard, both of Marion, AR; one son, Rodney Dewayne Lee of Waldo, AR; her mother, Ruth Harness of West Memphis; two sisters, Donna S. Lee of West Memphis and Irene Hurst of Marion, AR; one brother, James L. Robinson of West Memphis; twelve grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 with burial in Crittendon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Wilma F. Pierce
Wilma F. Pierce, age 88, of Falcon, Arkansas died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at a Texarkana hospital. She was a Christian, a homemaker and a member of the Falcon Church of Christ. Mrs. Pierce was born in Falcon on December 11, 1914. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.G. "Buddy" Pierce.
Survivors include: five sons, Hugh Pierce of Russellville, AR, Herbert Pierce of Pine Bluff, AR, Charles Pierce of Shreveport, LA, Carolyn and Arly Mahaffey of Hot Springs, AR, and Dwight Pierce of Falcon; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 18, 2003 at the Falcon Cemetery with Jack Webb officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps, AR.
Charley B. Gray
Charley B. Gray, age 97, of Taylor, Arkansas died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at his residence. He was born October 10, 1905 in Case County, Texas. Mr. Gray was a retired farmer and a member of the Lake Erling Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by: his wife of seventy-three years, Ida Bertress Harbin Gray; a son, Herman Lee Gray; son-in-law, Dalton Edgar Maness; and by three sisters, Mary Harbin, Ruth Abram and Dovie Ruth.
He is survived by: two daughters, Dolly Jean Maness of Taylor and Patsy Ruth Tyler of Springhill, LA; two brothers, Tom Gray of Hope, AR and Richard Gray of Ivan, OK; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at The Lake Erling Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Humphries officiating and burial in The Stateline Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.
Emmett Lee Redmon
Emmett Lee Redmon, age 88, of Lewisville, Arkansas died early Wednesday morning July 2, 2003 at his home. He was born February 3, 1915 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. Mr. Redmon was a lifetime resident of Lafayette County and was a retired farmer and livestocker. Mr. Redmon was preceded in death by a daughter, Emma Jean Redmon and by a grandson, Kenneth Page.
He is survived by: his wife of sixty-four years, Christine Redmon of Lewisville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Alice Faye and Jarrell Teague of Portland, Oregon, Viola Redmon of Texarkana, AR and Jennie and Leroy Page of Pine Bluff, AR; one sister, Gracee Ann Matheaws; two grandsons, Lee R. Page, Jr. and Chris Page; two granddaughters-in-law, Gwen Page and Nicci Mifflin; three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Redmon was cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.
William Grant Pickler
William Grant Pickler, age 21, of Pine Bluff, died early Friday morning, June 27, 2003 of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Grant was born December 9, 1981 in Pine Bluff, a son of George and Lynda Bussey Pickler. He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, attending St. Joseph Catholic Junior High School and graduating from Pine Bluff High in 2000.
Mr. Pickler owned and operated Grant's Recovery Service, was a member of Lakeside Methodist Church, was a member of Pine Bluff Jaycees and was a board member of the Walnut Hill Deer Club. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William "Eddie" Pickler and his maternal grandparents, Harry and Edna Bussey.
Mr. Pickler is survived by: his parents, George and Lynda Pickler; a brother, George "Brad" Pickler of Pine Bluff; paternal grandmother, Dorthy Pickler of Taylor, AR; a nephew, William Tyler Pickler; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, 2003 at 10:00 am at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff with Reverend Ted DeWeese officiating. Burial was a Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley, AR at 3:30 pm with the Rev. Spencer Plumley officiating.
Eld. Johnnie E. Walraven
Eld. Johnnie E. Walraven, 80, a retired Baptist minister, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at his home in Willisville, Arkansas after a lengthy illness. He was born November 21, 1922 in Fouke, Arkansas to Johnny and Louise Hemperly Walraven.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving from November 1938 to July 1945, serving 3 years in the Horse Cavalry and the other 4 years in the 361st Regiment, 91st Infantry in Italy. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters for the Campaigns, Combat Infantry Badge, 6 Expert Medals and the Purple Heart. Before retiring, he pastored New Liberty, Forest HIll, Pleasant Springs and Mt. Olive Churches.
Cherishing his memory are: his daughter, Marva Nell Baldwin; his granddaughter & husband, Michelle and Chris Smith; two great grandsons, Dakota Spencer Smith and Kaleb Wayne Smith, all of Willisville; his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Betty Young of Sealy, TX; his sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Walraven of Dubberly, LA; a brother-in-law, Paul Cooper of Arkadelphia, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services were held at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 27, 2003 at Willisville Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Evans officiating.
