JIMMY DOYLE STULTZ, JR.
Jimmy Doyle Stultz, Jr., age 37, of Lewisville, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012. Mr. Stultz was born March 25, 1974, in Hope, Arkansas.
Mr. Stultz was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Doyle Stultz, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Megan and Riley Stultz of Magnolia, AR; son, James Gavin Stutlz of Lewisville, AR. He was a dearly beloved son to Linda Knapp Stultz of Lewisville, AR; four sisters, Tina Castleman and husband, Danny of Bentonville, AR; Martha Stultz of Lewisville, AR; April Bibb of Dallas, TX; and Trisha Hughes and husband, Nicholas of Gurdon, AR, his grandmother, Dorris Stultz of Lewisville, AR. He was uncle Bubba to three nephews and three nieces. Mr. Stultz will be dearly missed by a host of friends and other family members.
Graveside Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Wilson Cemetery in Lewisville, AR, with Bro. Eric Barbaree, Jr. officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, AR. Visitation will be held before the service at 12-2 pm Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR.
Mr. Robert L. "Coach" Strayhan
Mr. Robert L. Strayhan, age 88, of Lewisville, AR. passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011, at his home.
He was born July 17, 1923 in Jasper, Texas to Otha and Della Scott Strayhan Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents & siblings: Jeralding Felder Strayhan and Earnesting Strayhan Martin.
A 1942 graduate of Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas, he excelled in football, basketball, & track. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Wiley College in 1947. While at Wiley, he was a member of the 1945 Negro National Championship Football Team along with his friends and later fellow coach Johnny Peoples. He later recieved his Masters of Science Degree in Physical Eduaction from Prairie View A & M University in 1956.
Coach Strayhan, as known to all of his students, joined the faculity of George Washington Carver High School of Baytown, Texas in 1952 and remained there until 1967. While there, he served as assistant football coach and head basketball coach. His favorite saying was: "A QUITTER NEVER WINS & A WINNER NEVER QUITES". Carver won seven (7) district & three (3) PVIL State Championships in football.
The basketball team won four (4) PVIL State Appearances. In 1957 , they lost the championship to Dunbar High School in Lubbock, TX. In 1967, he joined the coaching staff at Foster High School.
He was an innovator, seeing that the youth of Lewisville, AR had no positive outlets, he created & operated a summer recreation program for 43 yrears, until his health wouldn't allow. He also developed & coached a girls & boys Pee-Wee basketball program for more than twenty-five (25) years.
At Lewisville High School, he served as the head track coach, assistance football coach as defensive coordinator and bus driver. In 1972, the Junior High team won the State Championship. In 1974, the Senior High went to Meet of Champs in every event.
He retired from teaching in 1989, having given thirty-eight (38) years of service, but continued to drive the bus for several more years. An avid golfer, Coach Strayhan has over thirty-five (35) trophies.
He was a member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Lewisville, AR, serving a deacon.
He served in the United States Army in 1948 during the Korean Conflict.
On July 23, 2011, the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association in a room of over six hundred gathered from across the country to celebrate African American Texas Athletics winning coaches and players from every sport. Coach Strayhan along with forty other coaches and players were inducted into the organizations Hall of Fame.
Survivors include: his wife of fifty-six (56) yrs.; Mrs. Pinkie J. Turner-Strayhan, his children; Robert Clayton (Joan), Allan Henry (Loretta), Byron, & Yvonne. (6) grandchildren, (2) great-grandchildren, (6) nephews, & (9) nieces.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lafayette County Middle School Auditorium with burial following in the Wise Cemetery in Lewisville, AR, with military honors.
Officiating will be Rev. MacArthur Turner
Visitation will be Friday 4:30- 6:p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, AR
MS. RUTHIE LEE "HELEN" MORGAN
Ms. Ruthie Lee “Helen” Morgan, 67, of Lewisville, AR, passed away Friday, November 4th at her residence.
Born December 25, 1943 in Lewisville, AR to Hosie Brown & Ruthie Flower-Brown, she was a retired cook and a housewife.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her children: Ms. Betty Jean & Eddie Morgan both of Lewisville, Ms. Patricia Ann Morgan(Texarkana, TX), Curtis Morgan(Decatur, AL), Leonard
Morgan(Kape, MO), and Ms. Janice Marie Morgan(Indiana, IND). 19-Grandchildren & 5-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 12th at 2:00 pm at Smith Chapel in Stamps, with burial to follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery in Lewisville, AR
Under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes, Inc. of Stamps, AR.,
Officiating will be Rev. Willie L. Ligans
Visitation will be Friday 11:am-4:pm at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
RUBY DELL SKINNER MCCLURE
Ruby Dell Skinner McClure age 93, of Lewisville, Arkansas joined her heavenly family on November 24, 2011. Ruby was born on July 11,1918 to Daniel Hardy Skinner and Phoebe Maunz Skinner. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lewisville. She was a long time employee of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department serving as Radio Dispatcher and Deputy Sheriff.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Holden McClure and great grandson William Holden Daugherty. Brothers D.H. Skinner and Stewart Skinner, one sister and brother in law Fern and Don Clem.
She is survived by one brother Dennis Skinner and one sister Glen Taylor. Two Daughters Billie Dell and Husband Lowell McNally of Garland, Texas. Kay and Jimmy Alexander of Lewisville, Arkansas. Grandchildren Sharon and Dodd Allen, Shannon and Robert Nolan, Suzanne Samas and Scott and Angie McNally all of Texas, Laurie Brady, Jamey Alexander of Lewisville, Arkansas and Amanda and Aaron Bolinger of Oakdale, CA.
Great Grandchildren Lucas Brady, Wade Adams, Brooke and Emma Bolinger, Dodd Allen, Shane Samas, Joshua McCallum and Shawn McNally. And a Host of family and Friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday November 26,2011 at 2:00p.m at Wilson Cemetery in Lewisville, AR with Bro. Charlie Warren Officiating under the Direction of the A.O. Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, Arkansas. There will be no Public Viewing.
PEGGY CREECH
Peggy Creech, age 72 of Stamps, Arkansas, passed away at her home Friday, November 18, 2011. Mrs. Creech was born December 17, 1938, in Bodcaw, Arkansas, to Marvin and Opal Bailey. She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, a homemaker with a “green thumb” that could make any flower grow, and an excellent seamstress. Her life was her family; she had an open-door policy that didn’t require knocking; everyone was always welcome. She loved making crafts, especially with her granddaughter, Rayla. Mrs. Creech loved being around her great-grandchildren, there was always milkshakes to make and games to play. Garage sales were her favorite hobby; she would spend Saturday mornings hunting bargains and always commented, “we are making memories”.
Mrs. Creech was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
She is survived by her sons, Rodney Creech and wife, Pam of Texarkana, TX, and Tommy Creech of Searcy, AR; her daughters, Carla Minter and husband, Dennis of Stamps, AR, and Bonnie Price and husband Rodney of Stamps, AR; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; special family, Raymond and Narvell Creech; and special friend, Jackie Williams.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later time.
