Frederick Huggs Sr.
Frederick Huggs, Sr., 66, of Lonoke, died Thursday, August 12, 2004.
He was a heavy duty equipment operator and worked for the city of Little Rock.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, Frederick Huggs, Jr. and wife, Lori and Alfred B. Huggs and wife, April all of Jonesburg, Mo.; daughters, Cynthia Peabody of Keo, Zola Hill of Garfield, and a special daughter, Naomi Wharton and husband, Randy of Cabot; brothers, Isaac Gales of Lonoke, Alfred E. Huggs and Lloyd Huggs of Carlisle, and Leroy Gales of Des Arc; sisters, Della Waddell and Mattie Shaw of Cleveland, Okla.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were August 14, 2004, at Gospel Mission Church in Des Arc. Officiating ministers were Rev. James Walker of Benton and Rev. Tom Bush of Cabot. Burial was in the Hazen cemetery. Arrangements are by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
Carl Watson Evans
Carl Watson Evans, age 80, of Cabot passed away Aug. 13, 2004.
Carl was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Little Rock to the late Aubrey and Myrtle Watson Evans. Also preceded in death by his wife, Anne Evans; sister, Ruth Stout; and brother, Steve Evans.
Survivors include son, Gary Evans; niece, Debra Roberts of Little Rock; nephew, Larry Evans; great-nephew, Michael Howell; and a very special great-niece, Jessica and Keith Boyett of Cabot.
Graveside service was Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Mt. Zion cemetery in Briggsville. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, Cabot.
Thomas E. Spikes Sr.
Thomas E. Spikes Sr., age 75, of Batesville, died Aug. 14, 2004.
He served in the United States Marine Corps where he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Spikes of Batesville; four sons, Thomas E. Spikes Jr. of Round Rock, Texas, Timothy Spikes of Bryant, Frederick Spikes and Harry Spikes both of El Paso; five daughters, Elaine Pesevento of Riverside, Ill., Teresa Parara of Sheridan, Joan Neitz of Batesville, Judith Reed and Deborah Aiken both of Malvern; two brothers, Jim Spikes of North Bryant, and Jesse Spikes of North Little Rock; four sisters, Pat Fewell of North Little Rock, Margie Arnold of Little Rock, Elizabeth Winter of North Little Rock and Carrie Henderson of Wooster; 28 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with full military honors were Aug. 18, at the National cemetery in North Little Rock under the direction of Willis-Hays Funeral Home Service of Batesville.
Richard P. McKelvy
Richard P. McKelvy, age 53, of Conway, formerly of Little Rock, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.
He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Conway. He served in the United States Army in the early 1970s and was stationed at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. For the past 30 years, he worked as a systems programmer, most recently with Fidelity Information Services in Little Rock.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne McKelvy; one son, Kevin Richard McKelvy, both of Conway; his parents; brother, Ronald Wayne McKelvy of Bluff City, Ark.; and sister, Judy Nell Phelps of Cabot.

Lester Fred Norman
Lester Fred Norman, 86, died on Aug. 16, 2004.
He was a member and deacon of the Lonoke Baptist Church and a retired pipeline foreman with Mississippi River Transmission Co.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Juanita Vowell Norman; two daughters - Patsy Snider of Florida and Celeste Rinehart of North Carolina; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Langley of Camden; and a brother, J.W. Norman of Dallas, Texas.
Services were Aug. 18, at Lonoke Baptist Church, with interment at Lonoke cemetery. Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Lonoke Baptist Church.
Bobby Ray Lane
Bobby Ray Lane, 66, Cabot, died Aug. 13, 2004.
He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp.
Survivors - wife, Clara Edna Lang of Cabot; sons, Michael and Robert Lang, North Carolina; daughters, Sabrina Allen, Grafton, W. Va., Vicki Bois, Worchester, Mass.; brother, Earl Lang, Heber Springs; sisters, Violet Grissom, Sweet Home, Costella Carr, Heber Springs, Ina Ray, Urbana, Mo., Georgie Newman, Merced, Calif.; six grandchildren.
Arrangements pending at Laughlin Funeral Home in Troy, Ill. Local arrangements were by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.
Bertha Cook Dennis
Bertha Cook Dennis, 59, died Aug. 12, 2004.
Survivors include son, James Cook; a granddaughter; and sisters, Judy Johnson, Joyce Moss.
Graveside services were Monday at Gillett cemetery by Essex Funeral Home, DeWitt.
Ida Tina Meyers
Ida Tina Emerson Meyers, age 90, formerly of Cabot, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.
Survived by a daughter, Ida Martin.
Graveside service was Aug. 16, at Sumner cemetery. Cabot Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ethel G. Roberson
Ethel Gharst Roberson, 86, of Cabot died Aug. 12, 2004.
She worked as a department manager for Sears, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot, and the Sears Retiree Club of Little Rock.
She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Boyd of Cabot; one granddaughter and one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice.
Services were Aug. 14 at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, Little Rock, with interment in Pinecrest cemetery, in Alexander.
Leonard Arthur Dean
Leonard Arthur “L.A.” Dean, 94, of North Little Rock died Aug. 11, 2004.
He was a welder in the Kaiser Shipyards in San Francisco during WW II. He later owned Exxon service stations in Beebe and North Little Rock, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene in North Little Rock.
He is survived by a daughter, Debby Dean of Little Rock; son - Lyndel Dean of Cabot; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jeralin Dean of England.
Services were Aug. 14, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock. Burial was at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, of Conway.
