Chesley Leon White

Chesley Leon White Sr., age 73, of Sherwood died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002.

He was a member of the 28th Air Division at Hamilton Air Force Base, Calif. He worked 32 years for Trans-Texas, Texas International and Continental Airlines, serving as station manager in Little Rock most of those years. After retiring from the airlines, he went into private business with his son.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Ann White of Sherwood; daughter, Cynthia White Dennie of North Little Rock; sons, Leon White Jr. of Cabot, Scott White of North Little Rock; seven grandchildren; sisters, Wynell Maroney of New York, Arlou Wileman of Wills Point, Texas, and Odaysel Calender of Tyler, Texas.

A memorial service was held Sept. 6 at Sylvan Hills Church of Christ in Sherwood, Graveside service with military honors followed at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery in North Little Rock.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Huson Funeral Home.

Gary Maronay

Gary Wayne Maronay, 56, of Biscoe died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002.
He lived and worked in Indiana for 15 years before moving to Biscoe and becoming a self-employed businessman.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane Sauer Maronay; daughter, Kelly Williams of Biscoe; stepsons, Jay and Tim Freet of Indiana; three brothers, Earl Maronay of Lonoke, Charlie Maronay of Almyra, and Bill Maronay of Casscoe; three sisters, Clara Redden of McRae, Louise Scott of Elkhart, Ind., and Marie Sourp of California; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sept. 6, at the Biscoe First Assembly of God Church with interment in the Biscoe cemetery.

Alcidean Johnson

Alcidean (Scooter) Waymack Johnson, 78, of Lonoke died Thursday, September 5, 2002.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse (Bud) Johnson, Jr. and a daughter, Peggy Joyce Johnson Evans. She is survived by a daughter, Wanda (Sissy) Johnson Cook; two sons-in-law, Donald Cook and James L. Evans, Jr.; six grandchildren, James (Jimbo) Evans, Jeffrey Evans, Dana (Cook) Anderson, Jada (Evans) Huff, Donna (Cook) Hall, and Joy Evans; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by eleven living siblings, Mack Waymack, Verlene Williamson, Charles Waymack, Ray Waymack, Odis Waymack, Gertie Vineyard, Forrest Waymack, Jerry Waymack, Louise Williams, Ron Waymack and Ann Gilliam.

Scooter was a devoted member of Concord United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s group of Concord. As a church member, she served in many capacities: President of UMW, Woman of the Year, Chaplain of UMW, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher.

She has been a faithful volunteer at Lonoke County Care Store for more than ten years. The Governor honored her for her volunteerism to her community.

Her family is honored by the phone calls and letters from those whose lives were saved or redeemed by her witness (both in word and deed). She has left a legacy of love and a belief in God that will live on in the lives of all those touched by her witness of life.

Visitation was Friday, September 6, 2002 at Boyd Funeral Home, in Lonoke, Arkansas. Services were at Concord United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Furlow, Arkansas on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Concord United Methodist Church. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170, on line obituary and guest register www.northlittlerockfuneralhome.com.

Heather Dawson

Heather Dawn Dawson, 27, died Sept. 2, 2002.

She was a surgical technician at Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock.

She is survived by husband, Chris and sons, Sage H. Dawson and Spencer H. Dawson; parents, James and Susan LaCour of Locust Grove; and her grandmother.

Funeral services were Saturday in the Olmstead Funeral Home Chapel at Heber Springs, followed with burial in Wesley Chapel cemetery.

Eskel Byrd

Eskel Wayne Byrd, 73, of Morrilton, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002.

He was born in Cabot, owned and operated Midsouth Microfilm Service, Inc., for 37 years, retiring in 1991. He was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Mayflower.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou Byrd of Morrilton; one son, Gary Wayne Byrd of Mayflower; one daughter, Sherrie Gentry of Morrilton; two sisters, Audrey Whaley of Sherwood, Opal McCartney and of Wynne; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was Sept. 10, at Mayflower First Baptist Church with burial in Mayflower cemetery. Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway, was in charge .

Juanita Cochran

Juanita Madding Cochran, 75, a retired accountant, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at a Fort Worth hospital surrounded by friends. She died from a massive stroke.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Angel of Hope Christian Church in Fort Worth. Burial is planned for Oct. 19 at Apple Hill cemetery in Ward.

Juanita was born July 4, 1927, in Ward. She received her accounting degree from ASU and while living in California, attended UCLA’s graduate program.

She was treasurer of the Celebration of Life Foundation, active in the AIDS Outreach Buddy Team of Dallas and an animal rights activist.
Memorials may be made to Capital Campaign for Angel of Hope Church, 901 Page, Fort Worth, Texas 76110.

Survivors are her son, Price Gerald Ross Jr.; her companion, Phillip Worthington, both of Fort Worth; brothers, William and Dale Madding; sisters, Frances Welch and Lorene Long, all of California; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who share the loss of such a wonderful woman.

Terry Lynn Rains

Terry Lynn Rains, 58, died Sept. 9, 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cole Rains; his mother, Violet Irene Rains of Judsonia; sisters, Peggy Wolfe and Wanda Gay Burleson, both of Heber Springs.

Funeral was Wednesday at New Testament Baptist Church with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Jacksonville, by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Memorials may be made to the New Testament Baptist Church, Lonoke.

Gladys Lee Garrett

Gladys Lee Blount Brown Garrett, 80, of Conway died Sept. 8, 2002.
She was a clerk typist at the Little Rock Air Force Base and an Army Air Corp veteran.

Survivors include a brother, Gene Blount of San Francisco, Calif.; five stepsons, Jerry Garrett of Conway, John Garrett, Royce Garrett, and Brian Garrett, all of North Little Rock, and Ronnie Garrett of Cabot; stepdaughter, Shirley Garrett of North Little Rock; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Wednesday at Beryl cemetery with Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway in charge.

Lottie Opal Savage

Lottie Opal Savage, 70, of Romance, died Sept. 7, 2002.

Funeral was Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Brownsville cemetery in Lonoke.

Survivors are her husband, Richard A. Savage of Romance; two sons, Jimmy Ray Skinner of Cabot, and Thomas Edward Mathis of Jacksonville; two brothers, Johnny Scallion of Romance and Milton Scallion of North Little Rock; one sister, Mary Duke of Danville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
