Elizabeth W. Powers

Elizabeth Wilson (Rechtin) Powers died Tuesday, March 30, 2004. A resident of Jacksonville, she had lived with her daughter since September 2003. A member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of Young at Heart and Martha and Mary Circle, and was a church greeter.

Born and educated in Cabot, she was a long time employee of Rhynecliffe Neckwear and was vice president of the company at retirement. She also operated B&L Men’s Clothing in Jacksonville.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Joe Rechtin Lock; one grandchild and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral, under the direction of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home, was at Jacksonville First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday and burial at Roselawn cemetery in Little Rock at 2 p.m. Visitation was held at the funeral home Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m.

E. Herman Dillard

Edward “Herman” Dillard, 67, of Cabot died April 4, 2004.
He is survived by sisters; Reba O’Dell of Roland, Arlene Benson from South Carolina, Glenda Dillard from Nevada, brothers; John Dillard of Mayflower, William Dillard, Raymond Dillard, Paul Dillard all of Cabot, Jimmy Dillard, Arnold Dillard both of California. Edward is preceded in death by sisters Marie Hammons and Estelle Cleveland.
Service was Tuesday, April 6 at Sumner cemetery in Cabot at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tom Faulkner. Arrangements made by Cabot Funeral Home. You can sign the online guestbook at www.cabotfuneralhome@aol.com.

Wayman Hankins
Wayman Hankins, age 68, of Cabot, Arkansas, went on to be with the Lord April 5, 2004, after a short illness. Retired from McMillan Bloedel, he loved fishing, hunting, taking care of his cattle, riding his four wheeler with his dog, Cokey and most importantly being with his grandkids and family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly thirty-nine years, Freddie Hankins; three daughters, Cindy Weatherford, Tammie and husband Steve Dixon, Heather and husband Michael Pounders; two sons, Kipp and wife Angi Hankins, Johnny and wife Rhonda Hankins, all of Cabot; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He left behind two brothers, Carl Hankins of Cabot, Bill Hankins of England, Arkansas and one sister, Frankie Lee of England; and a great number of friends and relatives.

Wayman was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louia Hankins of England; two sisters, Wanda Grover of Mandeville, Louisiana and Evelyn Palmer of Pine Bluff and one granddaughter, Courtney Paige Dixon.

Visitation begins at noon Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Victory Baptist Church in Cabot, with burial in Sylvania cemetery. Charles Earl Rogers

Charles Earl Rogers, age 84, passed from this earth to be with his Lord Friday, April 2, 2004. He was born Dec. 24, 1919. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country in China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. He lived his entire life in White and Lonoke counties. He was a retired welder from Brandt Machine Works and worked for the City of Carlisle for 10 years. He was a member of the Carlisle Fire Department for over 25 years. He was an avid coin and bottle collector.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton Eagle and Leanna Beatrice Rogers; a son, Charles Michael Rogers; and a brother, Marion Rogers.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene Rogers; a son, Kenneth Rogers of Carlisle; Kenneth’s fiancee, Gayla Baker of Stuttgart; his daughter, Donna Rogers of Little Rock; a brother, Lindy Rogers of Fort Smith; his sister, Louise Boyette of Carlisle; a daughter-in-law, Gwen Rogers of Conway; two granddaughters, Jennifer Wheeler of Cabot and Angela Brown of Morrilton; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Grace Brown of Morrilton and Jacob Wheeler of Cabot.

He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Carlisle.

Funeral was held Wednesday at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke with burial in Carlisle cemetery.

Orville B. Strayhorn

Orville B. Strayhorn, age 89, of Beebe died April 4, 2004.

Survivors are his four children, Kermit Strayhorn of Lonoke, Edwana Daniel of Beebe, M. L. (Bud) Strayhorn of Layton, Utah and Jackie Tableriou of Searcy; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was a lifelong member of the Beebe Christian Church where he was honored with the title of Elder Emeritus when his health prevented him from serving any longer. He and his wife were Girl Scout leaders and sponsored the Beebe Youth Center for years. He was a retired Beebe Volunteer Fireman, a 50 plus year member of the Beebe Masonic Lodge #145, a 32 degree Scottish Rite, a past member of the Beebe Kiwanis Club, serving as president and secretary/treasurer. He retired from Arkansas Power & Light Company (Entergy) after 34 years of service.

Junior Olas Alford

Junior Olas Alford, age 78, of McRae, died April 5, 2004.

He attended the McRae Church of Christ and was a retired flooring and carpet layer. He was a naval veteran of World War II, serving with distinction at Iwo Jima and throughout the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the McRae Masonic Lodge and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also the retired owner of the original AK Drive-In at McRae.

Four daughters and their families survive him; Patricia and Forest Blount of Garner, Phillis and Bill Wood of Searcy, Martha and Anthony Martin of Beebe, and Jaronda and John McEuen of McRae; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Marvin Alford of McRae; three sisters, Barbara Reed of Austin, Linda Failoni of Green River, Wyo., and Betty Bundy of Cabot.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Lebanon cemetery.

Calvin E. Perry

Calvin E. Perry, age 83, of Pine Bluff, died April 3, 2004.
He was born Jan. 21, 1921 in Lonoke County.

Survivors: one daughter, Patricia Maynard of Pine Bluff; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was a member of Arkansas Model T Club, and an auxiliary deputy with the Jefferson County sheriff’s office and a World War II Army veteran.
Graveside services Tuesday, April 6, at Mulberry cemetery, England. Arrangements by Roller-England Funeral Home.

Nellie Blair Barnett

Nellie Blair Barnett of Jacksonville, died April 2, 2004.

She retired after working for 37 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. After retirement she was a volunteer with the Rebsamen Medical Center Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Barnett Brannon; her granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Lloyd James Blair.

Graveside services were April 5, at Edgewood Memorial Park cemetery, North Little Rock. Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home was in charge.

Enick R. Johnson

Enick Raymond Johnson, 73, died March 28, 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Doris Jean Hudson; son, Raymond Dale Johnson; and daughter, Anita Darlene Johnson; adopted children, David Sublett and Lynn Simpson; and Kathy Jean Barber; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a new member of Fellowship Bible Church and former long-time member of 47th Street Baptist Church.

Funeral services were April 3, at Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs, with burial at Pleasant Ridge Union cemetery, Ida.

Madie Douglass

Madie Louise Moss Douglass, age 72, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of Jacksonville, died Thursday, April 1, 2004.

Survivors are daughters, Gale Moss of Columbus, Ohio, and Tracy Rupp of Shreve, Ohio; one son, Steven Douglass of Columbus, Ohio; one grandchild; five brothers, Rudy Moss of Kansas City, Kan., James Moss of Claremore, Okla., Thomas Moss of Carlisle, Tony Moss of Tulsa, Okla., and Stanley Moss of DeValls Bluff.

Funeral services were April 6, at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke, with burial in Dunkard Brethren cemetery, Old Austin.
