Erna N. Highfill
Erna Nadine Highfill, age 80, of Carlisle, died Monday, June 30, 2003. She was a life-long member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Remington Arms in Lonoke.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, J.C. Highfill; four sons, Dennis Highfill of Ward, Don Wayne Highfill of Morgan, Dale Highfill Sr. of Carlisle and Daniel Highfill of Perryville; a daughter, Danea Felts of Carlisle; 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Mae Walden.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Carlisle with burial in the Hickory Plains cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.
Lucy Viola Ringgold
Lucy Viola (Collins) Ringgold, 74, of Little Rock, died June 30, 2003. She graduated from Arkansas Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, and retired from Civil Service at the Little Rock Air Force Base hospital in 1981.
Survivors include six children: Don Ringgold of North Little Rock, Ronald Ringgold of Jacksonville, Gwendolyn Lenderman of Lonoke, Lary Ringgold of Conway, Gary Ringgold of Jacksonville, and Pamela Waldren of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil Collins of Sherwood, Joe Collins of Jacksonville; five sisters, Evelyn Ringgold of Jacksonville, Inez Foster of Clarksville, Texas, Violet Swaggerty of North ittle Rock, Jane Hairston of Vilonia, Goldie Wilkins of Sherwood.
Funeral services were Thursday,July 3, at Bayou Meto Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Grove officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Cabot.
Memorials may be made to Bayou Meto Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
Jim Allen
Jim Allen, age 44, of Jacksonville died Sunday, July 6, 2003.
Survivors include his mother, Iris Allen of Jacksonville; brother, John Allen of Jacksonville ; two sisters, Jane Coley of Kenya, Africa and Joanne Carmical of Cabot.
Funeral services were Wednesday, July 9, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
James Richard Hess
James Richard Hess, age 36, of Little Rock, died Monday, June 30, 2003.
He was a member of The Highlands Baptist Church. He operated a landscaping business in Monticello and Little Rock.
Survivors are a son, Austin Richard Hess; parents, Charles and Gwen Hess; sister, Kimberly Cash of Cabot; brother, Chris Hess of Little Rock; and great- grandmother, Della Channell.

A gathering was held July 3, at The Highlands Baptist Church, with interment at Shadowlawn cemetery in Malvern.

Richard Clay Byers Sr.
Graveside services for Richard Clay Byers Sr., 80, of Austin, formerly of Holly Grove, was Thursday at Franks cemetery near Holly Grove.
Survivors are his wife, Pauline; sons, Richard Jr. and Gary Byers; daughter, Elizabeth Collins, six grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Roller-Citizens was in charge.
Rennie V. Clark
Rennie V. Clark of Cabot died June 29, 2003.
He was employed by ITT Services in Searcy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, three sons, Roy Clark of Sherwood, Jay Clark of Austin and Mike Clark of Greenbrier; one daughter, Cheryl Thornton of Cabot; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Bessie Walden and Frances Martin of Bessemer, Ala.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel followed by interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
Elizabeth Harrington
Elizabeth Mauricine Harrington, 45, of Cabot died Sunday, June 29, 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Chris, and her children from a previous marriage: Timothy, Joseph and Christine Spears; her father, Loren Savage; brothers, Jeff Savage, Matt Savage, and Kurt Savage; and sister, Lauri Waiters.
She was a veteran of the Marine Corps.
A memorial service was held Thursday, July 3, at First Baptist Church of Cabot. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home.
Marion Ralph Piety
Marion Ralph Piety, 72, of Hazen died Monday, June 30, 2003.
He was an Air Force veteran and a well drilling contractor.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Piety of Des Arc; his wife, Martha; one son, Martin (Marty) Lynn Piety of Pine Bluff; three daughters, Pam Hill of Lonoke, Karen Piety of California, and Teresa (T.K.) Piety of Lonoke; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, Clayton Piety of Canada.
Funeral services were July 3, at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen with interment in Hazen cemetery.
Charles S. Vasser Jr.
Charles Spurgeon Vasser Jr. of Sherwood, formerly of Memphis, died July 2, 2003.
He was a member of the Plumbers Union Local #17 in Memphis for over 50 years. He was a WWII Veteran, serving with the 77th Field Artillery. He was a member of Levy United Methodist Church and the Disciples Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Vasser; a daughter, Charlene Henderson of Olive Branch, Miss.; a granddaughter; his sisters Lorraine Parsons of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Agnes Reczenski of Reading, Pa.; his stepchildren Mary Ann Cox of Sherwood, Betty Daniels of Carlisle, Linda Gerrald of North Little Rock, Billy Pennington of Clemson, N.C., and 12 step-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life was held July 5, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Chapel, North Little Rock, with burial in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Bernice M. Rhodes
Bernice McKinzie Rhodes died July 4, 2003.
Survivors include seven children; three brothers, one sister and 40 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m., July 12, at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Robert Leneer Smith
Robert Leneer Smith, 66, of Lonoke died June 28, 2003.
He was a member of the Faith Christian Center at Lonoke.
Survivors are his wife, Sandra Mealler Smith; children, Robert Alan Smith, Rhonda Kay Polk, Sherri Lynn Smith and Brian Keith Smith; mother, Lena Westerman; a sister, Betty Turner; a brother, Phillip Mealler; six grandchildren.
Funeral was July 7 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home, with entombment in Chapel Pines Mausoleum.
