David Davies
David B. Davies of Petit Jean Mountain died 
Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in North Little Rock.
He was born
Sept. 23, 1927, in Morrilton to Samuel Green Davies and Stella Ladd Davies. He spent his early childhood in Morrilton and on Petit Jean Mountain. The family later moved to Little Rock when his father became the state’s first director of the Arkansas State Parks. He graduated in 1945 from Little Rock High School. After serving two years in the Navy as a radio operator at Naval Air Station Squantum in Boston, Mass., he returned to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and graduated in 1950 with a degree in English.
Following graduation, he married
Barbara Felton of Lonoke on June 8, 1950. They moved to Princeton, N.J., where he attended Princeton Theological Seminary, graduating in 1953 with a Master of Divinity. The grandson and great-grandson of Arkansas Presbyterian ministers, he was an active and successful Minister of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for 57 years, serving in Mena, Ark., Duncan, Okla., Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Lewisville, Ark., and Texarkana, Ark., retiring from full-time ministry in November 1992. Over his 23-year tenure as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Texarkana, in addition to the construction of a new fellowship hall, the congregation assumed many projects, including: resettling and sponsoring Asian refugees from Fort Chaffee after the war in Vietnam, prison ministry at the Federal Correctional Institute in Texarkana, Texas, and installation of a memorial peal of change ringing bells in the existing church tower, the first of its type in Arkansas and the third ring of tower bells west of the Mississippi River.
The Rev. Davies also participated actively in the Committee on Ministry for the Presbytery of the Pines, and was a supportive mentor for many seminarians training for the ministry. During the 1980s he received additional training and certification in pastoral care and counseling at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Because he always loved being outdoors and working with young people, he and wife, Barbara, participated in Presbyterian church camps at Gilmont in Gilmer, Texas, and Ferncliff in Ferndale, Ark. In addition, he collaborated with others to establish annual summer float trips on the Buffalo River for Presbyterian youth in Arkansas and Louisiana.
Active in retirement, he served as interim pastor for churches in Arkadelphia, Morrilton and Dardanelle, finally serving as stated supply of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Atkins for 11 years, preaching his final sermon the Sunday before his death. His service to Memorial Presbyterian Church was the longest of any pastor for that congregation.
In December of 2007, he married
Margaret Stuart Wilson Dickey in the Atkins church.
One of his favorite hobbies was restoring an 1855 log cabin relocated from Mount Pleasant, Texas, to the Davies Farm on Petit Jean Mountain. In his later years, he shared memories of the Civilian Conservation Corps era, in which his father and older brother served as engineers, assisting in construction and development of Petit Jean State Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Davies; brother, S. Ladd Davies, and sister, Caroline Davies Cravens.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Stuart Wilson Davies; three children, Debby Cross (J.B.) of Little Rock, Ben Davies (Diane) of Pace, Fla., and Jon Davies (Sharyn) of Little Rock; six grandchildren; Nate Davies (Tomoe) of Oxnard, Calif., Bracy Cross (Terri) of Little Rock, Ladd Davies (Abby) of Cantonment, Fla., and Caroline Cross, Sam Davies and Emily Davies, all of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; many beloved nieces and nephews; and extended family, Paula Dickey and Richard Gill of New Orleans, La., and Eugenia and Peter Caldwell of San Francisco, Calif.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, led by the Rev. Dr. Karen K. Akin. Interment
will be at the community cemetery
on Petit Jean Mountain following the service.

Rufus Campbell
Rutherford Lee “Rufus” Campbell of Harrison, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at the age of 70.
The son of Henry Calmus and Zella Alice (Lemarr) Campbell, he was born
Oct. 8, 1940, at Mount Judea.
Rufus worked at Clay and Bailey in Kansas City, Mo., for 10 years where he worked as a machinist and plant supervisor. He also worked at ADC Manufacturing in Harrison for 40 years as a machine operator and tool and dye maker. He retired from ADC, but went back occasionally to work part time for them.
Rufus enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he especially enjoyed riding four-wheelers with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Tommy Campbell; and his grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Sue (Hudson) Campbell, of the home; one daughter and her husband, Melissa and Michael Henderson, of Parthenon; three grandchildren, Nicole, Austin and Bradley Henderson; one brother, Robert Lee Campbell and his wife, Kathy, of Dover; one sister, Anna Lee Hampton and her husband, John, of Pelsor; several nieces and nephews; and one very good friend, Rick Morlen.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Lurton Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Stanley Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Hampton, Roger Hampton, Robbie Campbell, Hunter Campbell, Tim Hudson and Randall Hudson.
Honorary pallbearers are Chad Hampton, Justin Woods, Mark Hudson, Matthew Hudson, Mike Hudson and Mitchell Hudson.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Holt Memorial Chapel in Harrison.
Leroy Schalk
Leroy W. Schalk, 92, a resident of Russellville, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born
Aug. 8, 1918, at Chicago, Ill., to Arthur and Estelle Drochowski Schalk. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Local Union 1185 since 1948, Saint John’s Catholic Church, and before World War II, was active in the CCC. He was the county maintenance supervisor for Pope County for many years and was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen G. Schalk; two sons, Carl Arthur and James D. Schalk; two great-grandchildren; a brother, George Schalk; and a sister, Violet Schalk.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Christine Ann Schalk of Dover; five grandchildren, LeRoy and Jennifer Schalk of Massillon, Ohio, Raymond and Nicole Schalk of Dover, Ronald and Denise Schalk of Dover, Jesse and Lori Schalk of Greenbrier, and Jennifer Schalk of Russellville; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A mass of celebration will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec.15, 2010, at Saint John’s Catholic Church with Father William F. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic section of Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
A rosary will be at 6 tonight at Shinn Chapel with visitation following until 7:30 p.m.

Sonya Jones
DANVILLE - Sonya Kaye Chambers Jones, 42, of Dardanelle lost a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at River Valley Medical Center in Dardanelle.
She was born
Aug. 3, 1968, in Booneville to Ronald Ray Chambers and Sharon Laverne Coffman Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her mother and a half-brother, Justin Krigbaum.
Survivors include father of her children Mike Jones; dad and stepmom, Ronald and Shelly Chambers of Booneville; stepdad, Charles Carpenter of Havana; children and spouses, Marissa and Zac Treadway of Dardanelle, Tara and Rocky Zieammerman of Danville, and Sydney Jones and Bryce Jones of Dardanelle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dewayne and Amy Chambers of Morrilton, Kevin Chambers of Florida, John Carpenter of Havana, and Matthew and Lyonette Carpenter of Havana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Michelle and Brent Rhoades of Texas, Amanda and Wayne VanPelt of Havana, Jenny and Randy Daughtry of California, Bridgette and Branden Norman of Oklahoma; and Shannon Gould of Fort Smith; grandson, Aiden Treadway; grandmother, Irene Chambers of Havana; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wylie and Christine Jones of Delaware; and special friend, Ronnie Turley.

Lori Coppage
Lori Denise Akers Coppage, age 35, of Falmouth, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Meadowview Regional Hospital in Maysville, Ky.
Born in Floyd County, March 16, 1975, to Denny Akers of Dardanelle, Ark., and Kathy Webb Wilson of Cynthiana, Ky., she was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Christian Church in Pendleton County. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Akers.
She is survived by her husband, Michael L. Coppage; a son, Zachary Michael Coppage; two daughters, Aubrey Nicole Coppage and Alaina Rose Coppage; a sister, Amy Akers (Rodney) Kern, of Lexington, Ky.; five stepbrothers, Kevin (Rebekah) L. Wilson, of Cynthiana, Brian L. (Mary) Wilson, of Lexington, Ed Seay, Jeff Seay and Jason Akers Maxwell, all of Dardanelle; her stepmother, Pat Akers, of Dardanelle; stepfather, Michael L. Wilson, of Cynthiana; mother-in law and stepfather-in-law, Nancy and Dewey Lowery, of Bracken County, Ky.; father-in-law and stepmother-in-law, Roger and Debbie Coppage, of Harrison County, Ky.; a brother-in-law, Roger (Shelly) Coppage, of Harrison County; her best friend, Leanne (Jamie) Messer, of Hershey, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Christian Church, 149 Oakland Church Road, Falmouth, KY 41040, by Bro. John Byard. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home at Cynthiana, Ky., and 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Oakland Church Road, Falmouth, Ky.
Reba Housley
Reba Marie (Freeman) Housley, 80, of Dover passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
The daughter of George and Mary Ramsey Freeman, she was born
Oct. 25, 1930, in Chimes, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles E. Housley; son, Michael Housley; and brother, Clovis Freeman.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Randy Housley and wife, Carolyn, of Conway, James Housley and wife, Beverly, of Hector, and Rickey Housley and wife, Karen, of Dover; two daughters, Sheila Housley of Dover and Kathy Housley of Dardanelle; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today at Trace Ridge Cemetery
in Chimes. The Rev. Mark White and the Rev. Roy Cain will officiate. Burial will follow by Humphrey Funeral Service.
William Marsh
William Garland Marsh, 93, of Russellville, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Russellville Nursing Center.
He was born
Oct. 21, 1917, in Atkins, the son of W.G. Sr. and Jewell E. Lovejoy Marsh. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Atkins First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal Lee Marsh; and a daughter, Carolyn Marsh Tripp.
He is survived by a son-in-law, Ronnie Tripp and wife, Jeanne; two grandchildren, Mark Tripp, and Leigh Ann George and husband, Allan R.; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon George, Brittany George, Addison Tripp and Anna Kate Trip.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Atkins City Cemetery
with the Rev. Robert Woody officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-7 tonight at Lemley Funeral Chapel in Atkins.
Carolyn Hudson
CLARKSVILLE - Carolyn E. Hudson, 71, of Knoxville died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at her home.
She was born
July 11, 1939, in Little Rock. She had worked at Posey Printing and for Tim Robertson, and was a member of Knoxville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Clara Rhodes Adams; husband, Edward “Buddy” Hudson; sister, Dorothy Brown; and brothers, Benny Adams and Walter Dean Adams.
Survivors include sons, Eddie Hudson and wife, Janice, of Jacksonville, Ronnie Hudson and wife, Sherry, of Charlotte, N.C., and Jimmy Hudson and wife, Cindy, of Knoxville; brothers, James Loyd Adams of California, William Adams of Little Rock and Stacy Lee Adams of Mablevale; sisters, Marie Clark of Little Rock and Anna Sue Murdock of Knoxville; nine grandchildren, John Miranda and wife, Amanda, Chad Hudson, Daniel Hudson, Samantha Feathers and husband, Cory, Joy Osuch and husband, Steve, Ronnie Hudson Jr. and wife, Leigh, Mary Hudson, Christy Chronister and husband, Steven, and Jimmy Hudson; and six great-grandchildren, Gavin Miranda, Cody Osuch, Luke Hudson, Jacob Hudson, Zachary Chronister and Sierra Chronister.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at the family home at 477 County Road 1640, Knoxville with Ronnie Hudson officiating. The body will be cremated. Arrangements are by Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
