DARDANELLE - Edward L. Hicks Jr., 34, of Dardanelle passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2007.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at the Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
Maxine Golden
Maxine R. Golden, age 80, of Dardanelle died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Center in Russellville.
A daughter of the late Theodore Ray and Elsie Faye Madden Robertson, she was born
July 31, 1927, near Booneville. She attended college in Chillicothe, Mo., where she earned an associate’s degree in bookkeeping, and worked in Dardanelle for both the Keenan Gin and Renee Sims Building Supply Company. She was a member of the Dardanelle Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Mariann Golden of San Antonio, Texas, Tim and Julie Golden of Booneville, and Mark Golden of Russellville; a daughter, Donna Mathews of Dardanelle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Mae Robertson of Searcy, and Rex and Emily Robertson of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Sara and Elizabeth Golden, both of San Antonio; Trent Mathews of Maumelle, and Shane Golden of Booneville; and a great-granddaughter, Haylee Mathews of Springdale.
The graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Brearley Cemetery
in Dardanelle, officiated by Bruce Grice. Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Verlin Sims, Randy Crow, Shane Golden, Trent Mathews, Charles Richards and Shannon Young.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Jason Croom
Jason M. Croom, age 33, of Russellville died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at the Conway Regional Medical Center.
He was born
Dec. 7, 1974, in Little Rock and was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University. As a child, he attended First United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, O. G. and Betty Croom of North Little Rock.
Survivors include his wife, Leanne Croom; two daughters, Zoe Elizabeth and Bentleigh Frances Croom, both of the home; his parents, Mike and Kandis Croom of Russellville; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Kimes and Alicia Croom of Russellville; and his maternal grandparents, Marvin L. and Dawn Smith of Davenport, Iowa.
Service arrangements provided by Shinn Funeral Service are private.

Mae Ferguson
Mae Ferguson, 82, of Russellville, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Center in Russellville.
The daughter of Ernest and Cora Presnell, she was born
March 1, 1925, in Whitwell, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Agnes McGowan; one brother, John Presnell; Melvin Ferguson; one son, Michael Ferguson; and one granddaughter, Nicole Ferguson.
Survivors include four sons, Jack Ferguson and wife, JoAnn, of Hartman, John Ferguson of Russellville, Bob Ferguson of Danville, and Don Ferguson and wife, Tammy, of Dover; one daughter Julia Philpott and husband Jimmy of Dover; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Pisgah Cemetery
in Pottsville with the Rev. Jeff Paxton officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Benjamin Sotomayor
CLARKSVILLE - Benjamin Austin Sotomayor Jr., 72, of Knoxville died Monday, Oct. 8, in Clarksville.
Born July 15, 1935, in Tempe, Ariz., he was a professional truck driver, an avid bowler and gourmet Mexican chef. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin A. Sotomayor Sr., and Flora (Austin) Sotomayor.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Strupp Sotomayor; daughter, Julie Davis of Bentonville; sons, Benjamin Sotomayor of Houston, Texas, William Sotomayor of Clarksville and John Sotomayor of Bartlesville, Okla.; sisters, Mary Helen Dice of Ducor, Calif., Frances Ortiz of Woodlake, Calif., and Lupe Sands of California; brothers, Bob Sotomayor of Tempe, Ariz., Charlie Sotomayor of Tempe, Ariz., Jessie Sotomayor of Mesa, Ariz., Fred Sotomayor of Hereford, Ariz., and Al Sotomayor of Russellville; and four grandchildren, Chloe Sotomayor, Austin Sotomayor, Jasmine Davis and Allison Sotomayor.
A memorial service will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Roller-Cox Funeral Chapel.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today.
Oma Bishop
The family of Oma Bishop, age 69, of Atkins, who died Thursday, Oct/ 4, 2007, will conduct a graveside memorial service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Pollard Cemetery

Family members include her companion, Charles Leapheart; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Grant and Rhonda Lem of Jourdanton, Texas; a daughter and her companion, Vanessa Wiley and Jeanice Duncan of Liberty, Okla.; a brother, William “Dub” Brown of Dover; four sisters, Mary Singleton and Jewell Collins, both of Russellville, Betty Waldo of Dover; and Linda Harness of London; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Vervel Haynes
Mrs. Vervel Lue Carrell Haynes, a long time resident of Gulf Shores, Ala., passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, in Russellville.
Lue, as she was known by all her friends, was born
Aug. 21, 1933, in Bee Branch. She was a lifelong house wife and mother. She was active in her church at the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores, Friends of Gulf Shores Library and the Women’s Club of Gulf Shores. Lue was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Dovie Carrell; and two sisters, Vioda Smith and Katrina Smith.
Lue is survived by her children, Terry Haynes of Escondido, Calif., Sherry Killingsworth of Russellville, Carl Haynes of Foley, Ala., and Larry Haynes of Attalla, Ala.; a brother, Norman Weldon Parish of Nashville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 with funeral services following at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Pine Rest Funeral Home. Interment
will be in Pine Rest Memorial Park.

Leeana Allen
Leeana Jean Allen passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Hamilton, Mont.
She was born
Dec. 31, 1963, in Salinas, Calif., where she lived for 43 years.
Survivors include her mother, Wanda Wood Alcon of Clarksville; two sisters, Phyllis Queen and Londa Pearson of Russellville; two brothers, Allen McKinney of Salinas, Calif., and David Wood of Pacific Grove, Calif.; and an aunt, Shirley O’Keefe of Russellville.
Leeana was a 19-year member of the American Legion Post 589 Auxiliary in Salinas.
Preston Owens
DARDANELLE - Pfc. Preston Matthew Owens, 20, of Dardanelle died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville.
He was born
Oct. 3, 1987, in Russellville and was a member of the Army National Guard, HHB First 206 Field Artillery Battalion in Russellville.
Survivors include his parents, Lisa and Steve Reasoner of Dardanelle and Russell Collins of Russellville; his fiancee, Brittany Chisum of Dardanelle; uncles and aunts, Jason and Mary Owens of Pottsville, Billy and Jane Higgs of Russellville, and Connie and Tracy Cossey of Dardanelle; cousins, Zachery Cossey, Jessica Marie and Amber Nicole Owens; grandparents, Jim and Billie Jean Reasoner of Dardanelle, Gene and Carol Owens of Danville, and Betsy Collins of Russellville; great-grandmother, Margie Avery of Booneville; and loving dogs, Gizmo and Levi.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Cornwell Chapel with the Rev. David Rainey and Floyd Avery officiating. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Fort Sill, Okla.
