Earnest Putman
DANVILLE - Earnest “Peno” H. Putman, age 90, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Chambers Memorial Hospital.
He was born icon July 17, 1920, in Waveland to Joe and Sinda Fredrick Putman. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Coast Guard aboard the SS Morris, retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Blue Mountain. “Peno” was a long-time farmer, raising cattle on the farm at the foot of Mount Magazine. He had helped in the construction of the original Chambers Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Eunice Beatty and Laura Elmer.
Survivors include wife of 65 years, Ima Biggs Putman; children and spouses, Jeanne and John Andrews of Booneville, Janice and Dewayne Mack of Kirby, Ronnie Putman of Waveland and Dennis Putman of Waveland; grandchildren, Melody Weidman, Justin Andrews, Simon Mack, Josh Allen, Casie Mack, Sherman Putman, Shawn Mattson and Charity Smith; great-grandchildren, Nick, Max and Barrett Weidman, Cody Davis, Beau and Tag Andrews, Bryce and Brennon Allen, Rachel Mack, Austin and Andrew Mack, Serenity and Aiden Putman, and Ashlynne Mattson; sisters, Edith Daves of Booneville and Jimmie Bell Putman of Placerville, Calif.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Moore’s Chapel Church with the Rev. Phil Sturdy officiating. Burial will be at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Justin Andrews, Josh Allen, Simon Mack, Sherman Putman, Shawn Mattson and Shaun Weidman.
Memorials may be made to Waveland Community Church, c/o Ruby McKee, 25858 State Highway 10 West, Havana, AR. 72842.

Jo Rita Cook
Jo Rita Cook, 66, of Hector, died icon Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at her home.
She was born icon Oct. 27, 1944, the daughter of E.L. and Nadine White Bush. She worked for Appleton Child Development Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Denise and Michelle.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne Cook, and Randy and Carolyn Cook; three grandchildren, Justin, Sam and Emily, all of Hector, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ednita and William Condley of Appleton, and Janie Roberds of Branch; one brother and sister-in-law, David Bob and Sylvia Bush of Appleton; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Welcome Home Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Williams and the Rev. J.L. Chronister officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lemley Funeral Service.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight.
Pallbearers are David Condley, Robert Condley, Brian Condley, Eddie Bush, Kenny Gray and David Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Appleton Child Development Center staff.

Betty Sullivan
DANVILLE - Betty Janice Sullivan, 77, of Ola passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at her home.
She was born icon April 30, 1933, in Birta to Thomas and Ruby George Via. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Sullivan; a son, Terry Sullivan; brothers, Bud, Donald, Norbin and Bobby Via; and sisters, Theda Via and Alene Eubanks.
Survivors include sisters, Velma Eldridge of Sheridan, Kathleen Freeman of Ola and Patsy Van Vleet of Dardanelle, and Sue Hance of Casa; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Ola Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Wells officiating. Burial will be in Birta Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Tommy Via, Mike Carter, Allen Morgan, Larry Rose, J.R. Haney and Doug Via.
Visitation will be 6-8 tonight.

Carl Khilling
Carl Gene Khilling, 70, of Rogers died icon Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, in Rogers.
He was born icon Feb. 9, 1940, in Lavaca to Carl L. and Opal M. Bradley Khilling. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include a son, Johnathan Khilling of Rogers; a daughter, Lacey Khilling of Rogers; a brother, Brad Khilling of Haskell, Okla.; a sister, Brenda Wood of Bentonville; a granddaughter, Rylie Khilling; four nieces; and two nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.
Vsitation will be from noon until service time Thursday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.

Vikki Griner
Vikki Strange Griner 58 of Magazine died icon Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010.
She was born icon May 21, 1952, in Oak Grove, La., to James Strange and Lee Joyce Sims Strange.
She is preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her husband, Randy Griner; daughter, Dallas Machelle Renfroe, granddaughter, Emmalee Renfroe; father, James Strange; brother, James Strange Jr.; and a host of other family and friends.
A memorial service will be Saturday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2010, at the family home.

Nell Manning
Nell P. Manning, 85, of Russellville died icon Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
The daughter of Charlie and Dora Box Peacock, she was born icon Oct. 22, 1924, in Weir, Miss., and grew up in the depression, a sister to 11 siblings. Nell attended the French Camp School in Mississippi and when she was 17 volunteered for the U.S. Women’s Army Air Corps, rising to the rank of sergeant. She worked as a stenographer for the WAAC’s in Washington state and had received orders for deployment to Germany just before the war’s end.
Nell and J.W. Manning married icon on Nov. 24, 1945, in Clarksdale. After raising their three children, Nell worked as the freight terminal manager with Spector-Redball Freight Company in Clarksdale. Following the death in 1987 of her beloved J.W., she moved to Russellville to be near her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ where she was active in the Golden Agers and Tuesday night prayer group. An avid reader, she read every novel by Louie L’Amour, and enjoyed Christian books and biographies. It was not unusual for Nell to read as many as 30 books in a single week. She loved cooking and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. W. Manning; 12 adult siblings and two infant siblings.
She is survived by her two sons, Jerry Manning and wife, Becky, of Russellville and Herbie Manning and wife, Viva, of Russellville; her daughter Beth Donnell and husband, Lynn, of Russellville, six grandchildren, Amy Burns and husband, Jay, of Little Rock, Adrienne Maxey and husband, Andrew, of Russellville, Jay Manning and wife, Kim, of West Monroe, La., Lyle Manning and wife, Shayne, of Russellville, Jamie Linton and husband, Billy, of Dover, Keith Moore and wife, Vandy, of Russellville; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Humphrey Chapel. Dan Lightfoot and Bruce Grice will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Rogers-Rye Post 2283 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to Camp Caudle, c/o Becky Miller, P.O. Box 1311, Dover, AR 72837.
Burial and graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale, Miss., by National Funeral Service of Clarksdale.

Emil Eisen
CLARKSVILLE - Emil Joseph Eisen, 89, of Clarksville died icon Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at his home.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Emil and Elizabeth Eisen.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Ruth Hartley Eisen of Sevierville, Tenn.; two daughters, Margot Eisen McLeod of Clarksville and Linda Devereoux of Sevierville, Tenn.; one son, Geoffrey Emil Eisen of Evanston, Ill.; three granddaughters, Kimberly McKinny and Elizabeth Smith of St. Augustine, Fla., and Amy Belcourt of Bethel, Conn.; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Ohio State University and a World War II veteran serving with General Patton’s 3rd Army. He was director of admissions for Capital University in Ohio, worked in production control for Donaldson’s Bakery and later was director of sanitation for the City of Louisville, Ky. He retired from city government after many years of service. He was a volunteer for the Service Corp. of Retired Executives and a Kentucky Colonel.
Cremation services are by Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Donald Grigsby
CLARKSVILLE - Donald Dean “Bo” Grigsby, 42, of Hartman died icon Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at his home.
He was born icon April 2, 1968, in Ozark and was employed by Swiss Family Vineyards.
Survivors include two sons, Shay Grigsby of Hartman and Justin Grigsby of Ozark; his parents, Vondel and Mary Ann Askins Grigsby of Hartman; a brother, Frank Grigsby of Hartman; and a sister, Teresa Lincoln and husband, John, of Mulberry.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel at 701 Rogers St., with the Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery icon at Hunt.
Pallbearers include Bobby Grigsby, Donnie Grigsby, Larry Askins, Gary Grigsby, David Davidson and Jimmy Arbaugh.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews: Josh Kimes, Wendell Kimes Jr., Rusty Kimes and Randy Grigsby; his cousin, Rick Grigsby; and his friends.
Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel.
