James Clark Wood
James Clark (Button) Wood, 89, of Washington, D.C., died April 17, 2001 at Sibley Hospital, Washington, D.C. Mr. Wood was born
in Mariana, Arkansas and moved to Little Rock as a child. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1992 following the death of his wife, Frances Kirten Wood, to be near his son James Wood, Jr., and his son's family. Mr. Wood was an active, long time member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Parish, and a supporter of youth athletic programs in Pulaski County. He attended the University of the South at Sewanee in Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 6th at 2:30 P.M. at the columbarium at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
Novis Potts
Novis Potts, 88 of Little Rock died Wednesday, May 2, 2001. He was born
in Mayflower, AR one of two sons born
to Leonard A. and Martha L. Hopkins Potts. He was a graduate of Mayflower High School and in May 1937 he joined the Little Rock Police Force. On May 6, 1939 he married
Margaret James. During WWII he joined the Navy and served four years. Upon discharge from the service he returned to the police force and retired from there in 1957. He then worked as a delinquent personal property tax collector, a freight salesman for Jones Truck Line, a bailiff for the Second Division Circuit Court and then took second retirement after working as a self-employed process server. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Magnolia Lodge and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and a former resident of Good Shepherd Retirement Village.
Mr. Potts is survived by two daughters: Marcie Potts Bramley and her husband Ron of Germantown, TN and Ginger Potts Davis and her husband Les of Benton, AR, eight grandchildren, Kelley Melvin, Nikki Hayes, Tanya Novarese, Amy White, Scott Davis, Paige Davis, Kim Cox and Lynne Potts and five great grand-children: Alexi Melvin, Creighton and Reese Hayes, and J.T. and Halley Novarese. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, Jimmy Potts.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Ruebel Funeral Home by Rev. Craig Russell. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Nancy Ann Popperfuss
Nancy Ann Popperfuss, 73, of Little Rock, died Saturday April 28, 2001. She was born
in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Henry John and Nancy Key Popperfuss, and the niece of the late Mabel Key and Frank John Wassell. She moved to Little Rock with her mother where she graduated from Little Rock High School attending Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and later graduating from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a B.A. degree in English in 1949. She returned to Little Rock where she began teaching English at Little Rock Central High School and Hall High School. She also received her Masters degree in English from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Nancy's excellence in teaching was recognized by her being selected to grade advanced placement and college entrance examines on a national level. She was a member of the Aesthetic Club, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Little Rock, a member of The Arkansas Arts Center, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
Nancy is survived by first cousins John L. Brockenbrough and wife Hanna of Houston, Texas, Barbara Wickell and husband Dan of Chicago, and Betsy Goldsmith of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
There will be a funeral service Tuesday, May 1st, at 1 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Burial will follow services at Mount Holly Cemetery.
Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

William Frank Stroud
Services for William Frank Stroud, age 88, of Hot Springs, will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. at Little Rock National Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Frankie Coulter, Farmington, Utah, brothers J.T. Crainer, Winnie, Texas, Rayford Stroud, Honey Grove, Texas, sister Billie Jo Hawkins of Paris, Texas.

Barbara Morris Stringer
Barbara Morris Stringer, 71, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001.She was born
in Conway, AR the daughter of C.C. and Marion Freeman Morris. She was a graduate of Conway High School and has kept close friendships with those who graduated with her. She married
Randy Stringer in 1974 and she loved to travel and support her Razorbacks. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Barbara is survived by her husband, three sons, Bruce M. Basham and his wife Debonney of Denver, CO, Keith R. Basham of Little Rock, Scott W. Basham of San Ramon, CA, one brother, Michael Morris, Conway, AR, one sister, Marilyn Jacks, Rapid City, SD and four grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held prior to a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 800 S. Scott St. Little Rock, 72201, Immanuel Baptist Church or charity of choice

Daniel Leigh Steppach
Daniel Leigh Steppach, age 22, of Little Rock, born
April 20, 1979, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at his home.
Daniel was the son of Richard and Deborah Steppach of Little Rock. He is also survived by his brothers Peter Steppach and Timothy Steppach, sister-in-law Sarah Steppach, nieces Ebby Jane Steppach, Harris Elizabeth Steppach a nephew Nathan Joseph Steppach and many other members loved him dearly. He is pre-deceased by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Steppach, Sr. of Little Rock, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Johnson of Heber Springs.
He was a graduate of Faith Christian High School and attended the School of Worship in Jerusalem. His great love for the land of Israel and joy in his Jewish heritage made his year in Jerusalem the highlight of his life. His great gift in music enabled him to play and sing many places. When Daniel played people felt the presence of God. Daniel currently served on the worship team at St. Peter's Charismatic Episcopal Church. Daniel once challenged to write his own obituary, said, "I would like to be remembered as who loved God with all his heart and worshipped and served him all his days."

Nancy Ann Ponder Squire
Nancy Ann Ponder Squire, of Little Rock, departed this life on May 7, 2001. She persevered courageously through a long battle with cancer. Born November 17, 1919 to the late Laura Dover Musick Ponder and the late Ezra Kinzie Ponder, Sr. of Donaphan, Missouri, she was soon joined by her two brothers, the late John Dover Ponder, and Ezra Kinzie Ponder, Jr. of West Warrick Rhode Island who survives. Her early education was in the Donaphan, Missouri elementary schools, and she graduated from Sikeston, Missouri High School. Nancy Ann Graduated from Southwest Missouri University with a B.S.E. degree. She was a member of Sorosis Literary Society. She did graduate work in education at Quincy College, Quincy, Illinois and at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas. She began teaching in the Piedmont, Missouri public schools in 1939. Her teaching career ended in retirement in 1988. She was honored this last winter by the City of Fort Smith as one of its Spirit of the Frontier honorees for 2000, a tribute to her long and fruitful teaching career.
Her husband Arthur Edwin Squire, Sr. precedes her in death. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Dr. Arthur E. Squire and wife Nan of Little Rock, and Mr. Robert M. Squire and wife Sharon of Enid, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren include Laura Eugenia Squire, Sarah Clarke Squire, Anna Weston Squire, Melissa Ann, and Robert Justin Squire. Nancy Ann was baptized at age 14 and was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Smith.
As her final illness brought her to live close to her family in Little Rock, she accompanied her children and grandchildren to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where her funeral service will be held Thursday, May 10th, at 10:00 A.M. officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson, with interment
to follow at Mount Holly Cemetery, Little Rock. She asks that memorials be made to the Cathedral Concerts at Trinity Episcopal Parish, 17th and Spring Streets, Little Rock, Arkansas, or the Music Fund, First Presbyterian Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Jerry Southerland
Jerry Southerland, 52, of Little Rock died Tuesday, April 17, 2001. He was born
in Judsonia, AR to Loy and Ruby Salmon Southerland. He was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University . Jerry loved running and camping and being out doors.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years Barbara Young Southerland, his mother, Ruby Southerland of Conway, three brothers, Dale Southerland and his wife Joanne of Leavenworth, KS, Danny Southerland and his wife Barbara of Heber Springs, Roger Southerland and his wife Paula of Jacksonville, FL and two sisters, Carol Bell and Kathy Whitehurst both of Conway, numerous other relatives and lots of friends.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Ruebel Chapel.

Bettye L. Smith
Mrs. Bettye L. Smith, 105, of Little Rock died Sunday, April 22, 2001. She was born
in Kansas City, MO to William I. and Anna Welch Pitcher and the widow of Willard E. Smith who preceded her in death in 1954. In 1925 she joined the First Church of Christ Scientist in Little Rock.
She is survived by a niece, Bettye Johnson and her husband Tom of Little Rock.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Park.
