Ernest Elmore Campbell, Jr.

Ernest Elmore Campbell, Jr. of Perryville, Arkansas, died icon Monday, October 13, 2003. He was born icon in Little Rock, graduating from North Little Rock High School. He later joined the U. S. Army, 8th Army Air Force Military Police, during World War II, serving in England, France and Germany. He was honored by then General Dwight D. Eisenhower as the best dressed soldier in the European Theatre. After the war Ernest returned to North Little Rock where he was owner-operator of the Standard Ice Company, delivering ice to homes and businesses for 20 years before retirement.

He then became a salesman for Wonder Bread retiring after 20 years of service. Ernest loved his family and home on Harris Break Lake, of which he spent many enjoyable hours caring for. He also loved fishing, hunting and his church, Second Baptist Church of Perryville of which he helped construct.

He is survived by his wife Frances McCranie of Perryville, two sons, Richard Ernest Key and wife Connie of Little Rock, Ernest E. Campbell and wife Gail of Conway, two daughters, Janice Acre and husband Jack of Little Rock, Arlyne Cherven and husband James of Roland, 12 grandchildren; Richard Ernest Key, Josh Campbell, James Myers, Beth DeBra, Courtney Ghormley, Shannon Parks, Deedee Forsythe, Frances Gresham, Karla Cherven, Diana Spesia, Tracy O'Callaghan, Cheryl Choate, 13 great-grandchildren; Sloan DeBra, Kalissa Campbell, Corey Key, Ashley Key, J.P. Padgett, Samantha Padgett, Austin Myers, Eric Myers, Kristen Choate, Trea Choate, Jason Cherven, Nicole Spesia, and Emily Spesia.

There will be a visitation Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a graveside funeral service Thursday at 12:00 noon at Pine Crest Cemetery icon officiated by Reverends Mike Atkinson and Cleo Young.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Emma Louise French Ford Byrd

Emma Louise French Ford Byrd, age 89, of Little Rock, died icon January 11, 2003. She was born icon in Perry, Arkansas. She was a graduate of City Business College, the Draughon Business School and became a stenographer for the United State Government. She was active with the St. Vincent Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church where she was a member the Ladies Alter Society. She was also a member of the Little Rock Scripture Study Group, the Abby Retreat League, Coury House at Subiaco, a member of Cursillo #22 and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Frank Byrd who died icon in 1976, two stepsons; William F. Byrd, Jr., and Charles Robert Byrd, and her son Elbert Hugh Ford. She is survived by one daughter-in-law Joan Ford Collierville, Tennessee, two sisters Mary Elizabeth Roberts of Lexington, South Carolina, Helen Hayes of Mabelvale, one brother, Elder T. French and wife Billie of Benton, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchild.

There will be a visitation Monday from 5 to 7p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 P.M. There will a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday at 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under he direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Edythe N. Burns

Edythe N. Burns, born icon August 12, 1923, died icon Sunday, August 17, 2003. She was retired from Hughes Aircraft in Tucson, Arizona.

She is survived by her son Shannon Burns and her daughter-in-law Sandra Burns; a brother, Joe Corbin; her niece Vicki Graff, both of Lake Charles, LA; nephew, Bill Corbin of Destin, FL; granddaughter, Amy Garr and her great-granddaughter Lezlie Garr both of Garland, TX and step-grandson, Eric Fazier of San Francisco, CA.

Edythe was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Susan Payne officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Ted E. Bueter

Ted E. Bueter, 71, of Little Rock and Hot Springs passed away April 12, 2003 surrounded by his family. Born October 22, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois. His early years were in Danville, Illinois. From 1951 to 1955 he served in the United States Air Force. Ted attended the University of Illinois, then began his career in the commercial baking business. In 1961 Meyer's Bakery brought him to Little Rock as sales manager. In 1967 he changed his profession to the real estate business joining Rector Phillips Morse as a salesman. He opened his own firm beginning with Hughes, Vroman Bueter, then Bueter-Gibson which became Bueter Realty and served on the board of directors of the Little Rock board of Realtors. His retirement found him enjoying Lake Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Barbara Pearson, also of Danville, Illinois, their son Randy Bueter, married icon to the former Patricia McMath and three grand-daughters, Sydney Anne Blackmon, wife of Bentley Blackmon, Bonnie Kate Bueter and Jennifer Tia Bueter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic High School for Boys.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church with interment icon to follow at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Ruebel Funeral Home from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Charles Richard Dillon

Charles Richard Dillon of Little Rock died icon Sunday, December 7, 2003. He was born icon in England, Arkansas on October 26, 1926 to Giles Werdna Dillon and his wife, Sarah Frances Millen. Charles spent his childhood in Morrilton, where his parents owned a men's clothing store and the "Star Shop" Cleaners. Upon High School graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. He participated in the Army Specialized Training Program at Oklahoma A&M. While in basic training at Fort Hood, TX, he gained the honor of Officer Candidate for training at Fort Benning, GA. Upon the death of his father, he was discharged from the military to return to Morrilton to take care of his mother and run the family business.

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville was where he earned his Business Administration Bachelor's Degree, happily as a Kappa Sigma Fraternity member. He retired after 45 years as an insurance executive. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish, hunt, and play golf. He was an active member at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Lion's Club and the Razorback Foundation. He was a very loving and wonderful husband and father, devoted to his family. He and Deane celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in October.

He is survived by his wife, his mother, of Richmond, VA, two daughters, Deborah Gentry and her husband Trip, and Charlene Kane and her husband Steve all of Little Rock and four grandchildren, Christian Lauren, Katherine and Chris and numerous friends and relatives.

A visitation with the family will be held at the family home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery icon Morrilton, officiated by Deacon Larry Jegley. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Cremation services arranged by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Directions to Elmwood Cemetery:

Interstate 40 West for approximately 60 miles to second Morrilton exit (#95). Turn left, go into town and across the railroad tracks, continue straight another two blocks. Turn right onto Hwy #113 at the city library. Go about 3/4 miles to the Elmwood cemetery icon on the left.

Fred K. Darragh

Fred K. Darragh, age 86, of Little Rock, died icon March 20, 2003. Retired Chairman of the Board of Darragh Company Agribusiness, Fred attended the University of Pennsylvania, and the Wharton School, class of 1938. He was also on the board of directors of J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. and Skyway Commuter Airlines until it’s sale to Midwest Airlines. He was an Episcopalian having served on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal, St. Mark’s Episcopal, and St. Michael’s where he was once Senior Warden. He also was on the board of Camp Mitchell, Standing Committee of The Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, member of World Mission Committee, and Deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church: South Bend, Louisville and Houston. Of all of the many civic offices held he was most proud of his military experience which included being one of the pilots that flew “The Hump” during World War II. A Major in the Army Air Corp, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and in 1988 presented a pair of Pilot Wings from the Chinese Air Force. In 1962 he was honored as Pilot of The Year by the National Pilot’s Association, and in 1999 he was inducted into the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame. Other honors bestowed Fred included the Humanitarian Award of the Arkansas Council of The National Conference of Christians and Jews, Arkansas Civil Libertarian of the Year by the ACLU, and the Fred Darragh Center of Intellectual Freedom at the Central Arkansas Library System, which is a meeting room at Library named for Fred, with endowed yearly lectures.

Fred is survived by his brother, Ted Darragh and wife Babs of Little Rock, and 7 nieces and nephews.

There will a visitation of friends from 2 to 5pm Sunday, at Fred’s home, #6 River Mountain Road.

There will be a memorial funeral service for Fred Monday at 10am at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church followed by burial of Ashes at St. Mark’s Episcopal Garden officiated by The Reverend Susan Paine. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Edward L. (Skip) Cullum, Jr.

Edward L. (Skip) Cullum, Jr. age 60, of Little Rock, died icon Saturday, August 23, 2003. Born in Pine Bluff and growing up in Little Rock Skip graduated from Little Rock Central High School before receiving his BSBA degree from the University of Arkansas. He became a Certified Public Accountant with his father at E.L. Cullum and Company concentrating in income tax, estate and gift tax, audit, and public affairs. He later received his law degree from the School of Law of the University of Arkansas, Little Rock branch. He worked with the Pulaski County Chancery Clerk, Commissioner in Chancery, and Receiver for United States District Court. In 1988 he began working with TCBY Enterprises, Inc. holding many positions including Assistant General Counsel, Vice President, and Assistant Secretary. He later became Vice President, General Counsel for the Nuvell Financial Services Corp. Skip was a member the Little Joe and the B.Ks. Band playing rhythm Guitar, on the first board of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, board of directors of Riverfest, Gaines House, Pulaski Academy, Visiting Nurses of Arkansas, and Citizen's First Bank of Little Rock, Fordyce and Arkadelphia, Race for the Cure Committee, American Cancer Society Relay for Life Committee, and a Chief of the Y.M.C.A. Indian Princess Potawatawi Tribe, a youth councilor at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where he also was an usher, and a teacher of the youth and adult classes. He did volunteer work with United Cerebral Palsy. He was also Treasurer and Recorder of Gamma Upsilon Chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Skip loved his family, and was an accomplished artist, musician, and furniture builder. He also loved sailing, and playing tennis.

He is survived by his wife Toni Carter Cullum of Little Rock, two daughters, Erin E. Cullum and fiancée Jeff of Little Rock, Beth Arnold and husband Jeff of McAllen, Texas, one son Scott E. Cullum of Dallas, Texas and one brother John Cullum wife Dortha of Little Rock, and 2 grandchildren.

There will be a visitation Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a funeral service Thursday at 11am at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under he direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to the LittleJoe and The B.K.'s. Endowment Fund of the Methodist Foundation.

Judy G. Crume

Judy G. Crume, age 62, of Little Rock, died icon May 24, 2003. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Judy graduated from Hall High School before attending Hendrix College in Conway. After school she married icon having two children, Michael and Catherine. She enjoyed writing, gardening and reading. Her working career included secretary in the marketing department of Union National Bank and in 1982 she joined the staff at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette as secretary to the Managing Editor. Raised in the Jewish faith, Judy later became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

She is survived by her mother Cody Lawrence of Hot Springs, one son Michael W. Crume and wife Naomi of Little Rock, one daughter Catherine C. Wallace and husband William of Wilson, North Caroline, one brother Richard Green of Sherwood, and two grandchildren; Keaton and Alyssa Crume.

There will be a visitation Wednesday from 5 to 7pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed Thursday with a graveside service at the Oakland Cemetery, Jewish Section at 11am. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society or The American Cancer Society.
