Margaret Bobo Singer

Margaret Bobo Singer, age 81 of Little Rock died icon Tuesday, August 14, 2001. She was born icon in Pine Bluff, Arkansas graduating Valedictorian from Watson Chapel High School. She was also a graduate of Judkins Business College in Pine Bluff. Even though she contracted polio at the age of 5 Margaret became an inspiration to those around her not allowing her disability to deter her desire to work and enjoy life. In 1941 she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Federal Government returning in 1943 to Pine Bluff where she worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. Margaret was married icon in 1949 to Luther Eugene Singer moving to Aurora, Illinois until retirement when they relocated to Fairfield Bay in 1977. Luther died icon in 1990. A lifelong Methodist and at the time of her death a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda Singer of Conway, the wife of Margaret's son Lewis David Singer, who died icon in 2000, her sister Anne Bobo Vinson of Little Rock, 4 grandchildren, Ryan Joseph, Matthew David, Lindsay Anne and Andrew Paul Singer all of Conway. She is also predeceased by her other son Larry Eugene Singer who died icon at the age of 5.

There will be a private graveside service Thursday at Olmstead Cemetery icon in Fairfield Bay, followed by a memorial service at 3 P.M. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Don Nolley. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Following the service there will be a visitation with the family at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund.

Ellen House Simpson

Ellen House Simpson, 85, of Little Rock, died icon Thursday, February 01, 2001. She was born icon in Little Rock the daughter of the late Joseph Warren and Julia Clarke House. She attended Gulf Park Prep School in Gulf Park, Mississippi before completing her senior year at The National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. She then attended Finch Junior College in New York City before enrolling at George Washington University in Washington. After her schooling, she returned to Little Rock in 1938 and married icon James Daniel Simpson, Jr. Mrs. Simpson was very active at her church, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where she was a member since her childhood. She was also a past member of the Little Rock Junior League, the Aesthetic Club, Little Rock Garden Club and the Country Club of Little Rock. She was the great-granddaughter of James P. Clarke, Senior Senator from Arkansas and President Pro-Tem of the United States Senate during the Presidency of Woodrow Wilson.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her husband James D. Simpson, Jr. of Little Rock, two sons J. D. Simpson, III and his wife Ginna, Warren Simpson and his wife Leslie, all of Little Rock, three grandchildren Ellen Garrett Simpson, Jody Simpson Thompson, Clarke Simpson Delp, two great-grandchildren James Russell Thompson and Joseph Townes Delp, and a first cousin Mrs. Everett (Francis) Tucker of Little Rock.

There will be a funeral service Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging, P.O. Box 4301 West Markham Street, Slot 748, Little Rock 72205, or Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Leonard Scott

Leonard Scott, 86, of Little Rock, died icon Sunday March 25, 2001. He was born icon Greenville, Mississippi and graduated as salutatorian and president of his class from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Mississippi. He received his A.B. degree at Vanderbilt University, magna cum laude, in 1934 and in 1937 his J.D. degree from Harvard University. He was admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas, the United States Court of Appeals (8th Circuit) the united States Court of Appeals (9th District) (1982), and the Supreme Court of the United States (November 17, 1958). He served over two years in the United States Army serving during World War II. Not long after his return to Little Rock Leonard was employed by E. Charles Eichenbaum. Soon thereafter they were joined by W.S. Miller, Jr., and the three of them formed a law partnership. He was a member of the Pulaski County, Arkansas, and American Bar Association, American Judicature Society for over 30 years, and a Fellow of American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He was a member and one time president of Downtown Little Rock Rotary International and first President and Co-Founder of the Central Arkansas Rose Society, and a member of Temple B'nai Israel, Little Rock, where he served twice on the Board of Trustees. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Simcoe Scott, of Little Rock, a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard Scott, Jr., and Mary Scott of Charlottesville, Virginia, a daughter, Scottie Tripcony, of Little Rock, a sister and brother-in-law, Karlyn and Jack Grundfest of Belleville, New Jersey, four grandchildren, Lisette Cooper and Husband Philip of Weston, MA, Walter Scott and wife Rain of Kensington, Maryland, Shane Tripcony and Wife Erin of Little Rock, and Shannon Tripcony of Little Rock, and three great-grandchildren, Scott Keto, Mariama Scott, and Brian Cooper.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Ina McCarty Satterfield

Ina McCarty Satterfield, 86, of Little Rock died icon Sunday, March 11,2001. She was born icon in Hope, AR to George Brinton and Mary Slovac McCarty. She was married icon to Will Hammond Satterfield who predeceased her in 1978.She was involved in volunteer work at St. Vincent's Infirmary and a longtime member of Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church and her church circle group. Mrs. Satterfield enjoyed gardening and was active in her neighborhood garden club. She was also a sustaining member of the 20th Century Club, an avid golfer and former member of the Riverdale Country Club and Pleasant Valley Country Club. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and dedicated to her family.

She is survived by her children, Brinton Satterfield, Marshall Satterfield and his wife Louise and Molly Satterfield, three grandchildren, April McCarty Satterfield, Katy Satterfield Landberg and her husband Karl and Jake Limberg and one great-grandson, Hunter Landberg and her niece Jane Swope. She was also predeceased by a son, Will Hammond Satterfield, Jr.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Park by Rev. Tom Carte.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Mary Holt Truemper

Mary Holt Truemper, age 80, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died icon Thursday, June 14, 2001, at her daughter's home in Charlotte, NC, following a brief illness. There will be a memorial service Saturday, June 16, at 10:00 am, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. The interment icon will be private at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Lyda and Tom Samuel, 173 Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock.

A native of Little Rock, AR, Mrs. Truemper was the daughter of the late William and Lyda Reid. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Judge J. Frank Holt in 1983. Ms. Truemper is survived by her husband Joe B. Truemper of Little Rock, AR. After graduation from Little Rock High School, she attended Little Rock Junior College (UALR) and later the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she majored in business. Mrs. Truemper was a former State Chairman of UNICEF, a volunteer with the Red Cross as well as a former member of the Junior League of Little Rock. Mrs. Truemper was the wife of a lawyer-politician and the mother of two girls, but she still found time to open her own dress shop in Little Rock, The Clothes Horse, which she ran successfully for many years. In 1979 she was elected to the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis on which she served for over four years.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Truemper is survived by her two daughters, Lyda Samuel and her husband, Tom of Little Rock, AR, and Melissa Vandiver and her husband, Tom of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Chris and Andrew Samuel of Little Rock, AR, and Ben and Kate Vandiver of Charlotte, NC.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Victoria Parris and Carrie Harris for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Justice J. Frank Holt Scholarship Fund, c/o the Arkansas Bar Foundation, 400 West Markham, Little Rock, AR 72201, or to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Norma C. Thompson

Norma C. Thompson, passed away in a Little Rock nursing home on Friday, March 16, 2001 five days shy of her 85th birthday. She was a life long resident of Marked Tree and Poinsett County until moving to Little Rock in 1995 to be near her family in the later years of her life. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Little Rock. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband of over forty-five years, W. H. (Bill) Thompson, who, at the time of his death in 1981, was the senior member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, having been first elected to the House from Poinsett County in 1953. In a special election called to fill the vacancy created by his death, Mrs. Thompson was elected to the House in 1981 to serve the remainder of Mr. Thompson's term through 1982. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, an avid reader, enjoyed traveling here and abroad and visiting her grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, William Powell (Bill) Thompson and his wife Marianne of Fort Smith, AR Michael Greenwood Thompson and his wife, Suzanne of New Orleans, LA and Charles Nicholas (Nick) Thompson and his wife Mary of Little Rock and two daughters, Nancy Marie Herdlinger and her husband David of Sea Island, GA and Janet Pierce Berry of Dallas, TX. A third son, Norman Patrick Thompson, preceded her in death in 1977. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Marked Tree Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, or Arkansas Hospice, Bldg. 66 R.65, 2200 Ft. Roots Dr., N. Little Rock, AR 72114.

Loretta Tipton Thompson

Mrs. Loretta Tipton Thompson, 93, of Little Rock died icon Sunday in Kennesaw, GA. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and a member of Winfield Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Jack Thompson, Bullard, TX, a daughter, Dorothy Thompson Jackson, Kennesaw, GA, 7 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Orion A. Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Bentley. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Mary E. (Betty) Ross Thomas

Mary E. (Betty) Ross Thomas, 83, of Little Rock died icon Friday, April 20, 2001. She was born icon in Little Rock to Henry Edward and Lelah Weed Ross. She was married icon to Robert O. Thomas who preceded her in death. Mrs. Thomas was treasurer and member of Woodhaven Missionary Baptist Church and president of the Paschal Heights Neighborhood Garden Club. During the years of raising her children she was a very active volunteer for the Little Rock Public Schools PTA. She was a State Fair, Blue Ribbon Winner, for her wonderful pies and was also a gifted seamstress.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her children: Mary Gardner and her husband Frank, Frances Waters and her husband Dale, and June Boyce all of Little Rock, Robert Thomas and his wife Pat, and David Thomas and his wife Debbie all of Perryville, sisters, Frances Greenwood, and Carrie Block and a brother-in-law Ray McCright all of Little Rock and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Ross of Crossett and grandchildren Randy, Stuart and Jason Thomas, John Naugher, Kathy Johnson, Kimberley and Brad Boyce and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Randy Murray followed by burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Wilson Eugene Taylor

Wilson Eugene Taylor, age 84, of Little Rock, died icon Saturday January 20, 2001. He was born icon in Harrison, Arkansas where he graduated from high school. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy serving as a Seabee during World War II in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. After the war he returned to attend college at Arkansas State Teacher's now the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where he received his degree in education. He first taught school at Westside in Heber Springs later moving to White Hall, Arkansas where he taught industrial arts at White Hall High School. In 1951 he became manager for building services for the Little Rock School District, retiring in 1977. Mr. Taylor was very interested in his son's athletic endeavors, once coaching his Little League baseball team. He loved his family and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Myrtle Thornton Taylor of Little Rock, one son Randy Taylor and his wife Libby of Little Rock, one brother Kirby Taylor of Springfield, Missouri, one sister Mrs. Clyde Dewey of Harrison, Arkansas, and one granddaughter Ashley Taylor of Little Rock.

There will be a graveside funeral service Tuesday at 1 P.M. at Roselawn Cemetery icon officiated by Reverend Gayle Bone.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
