Carroll Byerly Holcomb
Carroll Byerly Holcomb, age 72, of Little Rock, died Thursday, December 18, 2003. She was born
in Laurel, Maryland, to the late Dr. Theodore Carroll and Helen Freeman Byerly. She was a graduate of Barnard College in New York, for which she recruited new students for many years. Carroll was one of the many vigilant members of the Women's Emergency Committee in Little Rock during the crisis at Central High School in the 1950's. She was a longtime member of the League of Women Voters and the American Civil Liberties Union. She was a supporter of the Arkansas Art Center from inception. Carroll was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, Norman Elmer Holcomb who died in 1997, and is survived by two sons, Stuart Holcomb of Little Rock, Douglas Holcomb and wife Lisa of Little Rock, three daughters, Emily McRae and husband Jeff, of Little Rock, Elizabeth Watts and husband Larry of Little Rock, Anne Waters and husband Andrew of Winston Salem, North Carolina, her step-mother Imogene Jones McCarthy Byerly, a brother David and sister Nora of Maryland, 8 grandchildren; Katie, Foster, and Holcomb, Seth, Evan and Lily McRae, and Lawrence and Charles Watts.
There will be a memorial service Monday at 11am at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1818 Reservoir Road officiated by Reverend Scotty Meeks. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Willie Lee Hicks
Willie Lee Hicks, 87, of Little Rock, died Thursday, June 19, 2003. He was born
in Lonoke, on February 25, 1916 to Jessie and Joe Anna Brinkley Hicks.
Mr. Hicks worked from 1936 to 1950 for the S.P. Stiles family, who owned a cotton plantation in Scott, AR. From 1950 to 1981 he worked for Crow Burlingame Company and the Crow and the Lord families. From 1981 until his death he was employed in the care of the Robert Lord and Fletcher Lord, Jr. families. Mr. Hicks was a loyal, caring and serving person, who will be missed by all, who knew him.
He is survived by a special friend, Rose Scott and several step grandchildren.
Funeral graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, at 12 noon at Roselawn Memorial Park, 2801 Asher Avenue, Little Rock, with the Rev. George Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice. Cremation arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home
Mary Madison McCarley
Mary Madison McCarley, of Little Rock infant daughter of Clark and Carolyn Williams McCarley died Sunday, October 26, 2003. Mary Madison was born
on Friday, October 24.
Other than her parents she is survived by a brother, Clark McCarley, Jr., paternal grandparents, Bob and Anne McCarley of Little Rock, maternal grandmother, Gail Kazan and her husband, Aykut, of Hammond, LA, maternal grandfather, Bobby Williams, of Baton Rouge, LA, Great-grandmothers, Mrs. B.B. McCarley of West Memphis, AR and Mrs. James E. Hyatt, Jr. of Osceola, AR, a special great-aunt, Anne Speck of Blytheville and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral service was held at 10:00a.m. Tuesday, October 28 at the Second Presbyterian Church.

John Todd Henry McCann
John Todd Henry McCann, age 55, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 1st, 2003. He was born
in England, Arkansas later becoming an 18 wheeler cross country and local driver. He loved hunting, fishing and being with his family.
John is survived by his wife Tommie Jones McCann of Little Rock, four sons, John Wayne McCann of Little Rock, Jimmy Lee McCann and wife Kimberly of Alexander, Thomas Clarence McCann and wife Melanie of Mabelvale, Christopher Patrick McCann of Little Rock, 6 brothers, Omer McCann of Albany, Georgia, Curtis McCann of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Ronald McCann of Plumberville, Arkansas, Donnie McCann of Oklahoma, Charles McCann of Little Rock, Joe McCann of Little Rock, three sisters, Peggy Fryar of Little Rock, Bobbie Jean Morgan of Little Rock, Judy Fowler of Hensley, Arkansas, and 8 grandchildren.
There will be a visitation Thursday, April 3, from 6 to 8pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham Street, followed Friday by a graveside service at 2 pm at Woodson Cemetery

Clarice McCain
Clarice McCain, age 97, of Little Rock died November 10, 2003 at her home. The first child born
to the late William and Annie McCain she was preceded in death by her brother Gordon McCain and sister Ruth McCain Beck. After graduating from Little Rock High School in 1924, she went on to Draughon Business School where she studied accounting, which led to her working as an accountant for the Kroger Company for over 35 years. She was an active volunteer with the Arkansas Arts Center, and the Historic Arkansas Museum. She enjoyed traveling with her good friend, Nellie Reed.
She is survived by her nephews, Gordon Beck of Little Rock and Robert Beck of Houston, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Howard Gordon officiating. Ruthie Bee Turnbow May
Ruthie Bee Turnbow May, beloved Mother, Daughter, Sister and helping hand to many, passed away while asleep in her home in Little Rock on March 25, 2003. Ruthie is survived by her wonderful young son, Kevin Joshua Sullivan, 5 years old, her parents, Daniel L. and LaVena L. Turnbow, one sister, Jeanne Turnbow Knox and her husband, Jim, two nephews, James E. Knox III and Daniel Knox all of Little Rock.
Ruthie is preceded in death by Kevin's father, Timothy Sullivan of the home, who died January 31, 2001. She held joint degrees in Psychology and Biology from Hendrix College of Conway and U.A.L.R. of Little Rock, all attained with admirable grade standings.
Ruthie Bee was a kind, caring and concerned person alarmed by the many needy, homeless and generally forgotten people of our life today. She never turned these away and helped them in every way she could throughout her short life. She also attracted stray and helpless animals and cared for them as well. In this way she left this troubled world better than before she came.
We, her family of loved ones, will miss her, her charming face and her beautiful blue eyes all the years of our lives.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Memorial Park on Highway 5, Alexander, Arkansas. Officiated by Reverend Anne Russ. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home. (501) 666-0123.
Shirley Dee Maxwell
Shirley Dee Maxwell, age 87, of Little Rock, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003. Born in McRae, Arkansas February 27, 1916, she was the daughter of Roxie Dura and Paul A. Drake. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and friends will cherish their memories of her witty sense of humor and compassion for others.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Otis Maxwell, and her daughter Paula Dee Maxwell Hubbard. She is survived by her two grandsons Alan Hubbard and his wife Jan; John Paul Hubbard and his wife Anna; three great-grandchildren Alex, Max, and Hannah; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Shirley retired as secretary from the U. S. Army Little Rock District Recruiting Command. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She earned an associates degree in music from the University of New Mexico. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, U. S. Civil Service Commission, and American Legion Auxiliary.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Tuesday June 24, 2003 at 10:00 am with interment
to follow in the columbarium. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, or your favorite charity. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.
Lourie Darland Marshall
Lourie Darland Marshall, of 372 Skyline Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas, the wife of the late Terrell Marshall, died Monday, December 29, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Anna and Frank Darland, and was born
in Plainville, Kansas. She moved to Boulder, Colorado at an early age, and attended public schools in Boulder. She also attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado. She married
Terrell Marshall, and has resided in Little Rock and North Little Rock since 1928. She served as Secretary and President of the Highway Beautiful Garden Club, and as Secretary of the State Federation of Garden Clubs and the Wake Robin Garden Club. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Plainville, Kansas.
One son, Dr. Terrell Marshall, Jr. of Roslyn, Pennsylvania, a sister Norma McCaffney of Boulder, Colorado, and a brother Homer Darland of Mesa, Arizona, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren survive her.
There will be a graveside funeral; service Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
