in Memphis, TN, on April 6, 1915, she was the daughter of Ruth Montgomery Holloway and Gordon Holloway and grew up with many close connections with Southwestern College and the Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Memphis, and in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Central High School in Memphis, and spent the years during WWII as the hostess of the Skyway Room on the top of the Peabody Hotel.
A devoted wife and mother, Katherine was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jonesboro, AR, where she lived for 40 years and raised her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. She enjoyed most being with her family, especially her 6 grandchildren and great-grandson, and her friends. During her "retirement years" she became an avid reader.
Katherine's sisters Margaret H. Ramsey and Ruth Holloway and brother Ben P. Holloway preceded her in death. Surviving are her two daughters Anne Martin Duncan and her husband Kirby of Nacogdoches, Texas and Ruth Martin Parker and her husband Michael of Little Rock; 6 grandchildren, Kristin Duncan Hinson and her husband Hunter, Edward Martin Parker, Andrew Michael Parker and his wife Camille C. Parker, Margaret Duncan, William Duncan, and Harry Duncan, one great-grandson Cooper Hinson; and her devoted nephew, Robert Bradley and his wife Roxie of Memphis, TN.
A celebration of Katherine's life will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Garth of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Little Rock, with The Very Rev. Henry L. Hudson officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Mike and Ruth Parker.
Memorials may be made to the Central Arkansas Library System in Little Rock, or the Nacogdoches Public Library.
Cremation arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.
Richard Lee Maddy
Richard Lee Maddy, age 79, of North Little Rock, died Monday, February 2, 2004. He was born
in Wellington, Kansas, where he graduated from High School before receiving his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater. Richard served in World War II seeing action in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres, receiving the Bronze Star. He retired from his engineering career in 1983, moving to North Little Rock.
He loved his family and was always involved in their welfare. He is survived by one sister, Mary Gasener of Hemet, California, and a niece, Cogene Diffee Simard and husband Houston of Olive Branch, Mississippi.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Columbarium of Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery
in North Little Rock. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
Betty-Marie Ellett Lile
Betty-Marie Ellett Lile, 80, a Little Rock philanthropist, and widow of Brick Lile, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2004. She was born
in Moseley, VA to William Hundley and Alice Hulce Ellett. She was a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities at the 107th Commencement Ceremony in 1994 at Ouachita Baptist University. She also did post graduate work at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. Betty and Brick Lile were married
on December 26, 1963 and he preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she authored and led many Bible studies. She was an ordained elder of the Presbyterian Church, one of the founders of the Baptist Health Foundation "Bolo Bash", a member of the Roosevelt Thompson Scholarship committee, and served on the advisory board of Arkansas Community Foundation.
Betty is survived by her two children, E.G.. "Bubba" Klugh and his wife, Sherrie of Little Rock, and Carole Ellett Klugh Shannon and her husband, Jeff of Fayetteville, AR, and grandchildren, Rebecca Elizabeth and Rachel Allison Shannon and Kendall Marie and Kameron Leigh Klugh and many loved nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She was also predeceased by a brother, Edwin Willard Ellett.
A private family burial will be held in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Second Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Karen Akin officiating. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Ruebel Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, Ouachita Baptist University, and Baptist Health Foundation, for the benefit of Parkway Village. Betty was devoted to her family and many worthy causes throughout the state of Arkansas. Her legendary fund raising ability was only surpassed by her generosity.
Robert Stark "Bob" Ligon, Sr
Robert Stark "Bob" Ligon, Sr, 82, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully September 7 at the Little Rock Veterans Hospital after a brief illness. He was born
in 1921 to Thomas Claude Ligon and Annie Lou Cargile Ligon. Bob grew up in Arkadelphia, and El Dorado, graduated from El Dorado High School in 1939, and attended Henderson College and the University of Arkansas, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942, and was commissioned a Marine flight officer and served in the Pacific Theater in WWII as a B-25 bomber pilot in squadron VMB-613. He was active in his old unit's reunions until his last illness. Bob worked in the transportation, equipment sales, and heavy moving fields in Arkansas, Texas, Colorado, Arizona and Alaska. He enjoyed traveling, jazz, bridge, crossword puzzles, designing specialized heavy moving machinery, trucks, meeting people, and the call of the open road.
Bob is survived by his children, Stark Ligon (Marianne) of Little Rock, Ross Ligon (Ellen) of Nigeria, Drew Ligon and Gray Ligon (Gerhard) all of North Carolina, Brooke Ligon of Texas, and Grant (Mary Liz) of Louisiana, nine grandchildren, Sarah, Stark, III, Miriam, Daniel, Grant, Avery, Amy, Holly, and Blake, a brother Howard Ligon of Florida and former wives, Betty Mallory and Sally Holmes, both of whom he held in high regard. He was predeceased by a brother Bill Ligon of Texas and a grandson, Jesse. Bob was of the Presbyterian faith.
Bob was especially proud of Alcoholics Anonymous, his 40 plus years of membership, helping others there, the support he received from AA, and the many friends he made around the world through the organization. His friends in the Cosmo Club are very special and gave so freely of themselves to Bob in cheering him on during good and difficult times. His family thanks all these wonderful people. The Central Arkansas VA System and Good Shepherd Retirement Center in Little Rock provided Bob very caring support and are most appreciated.

A causal come-and-go gathering of all his friends and family to celebrate Bob's life will be at Stark Ligon's home at 2312 S. Broadway, Little Rock, on Friday, September 10, from 5-7 p.m.

Sandra "Sandy" Shumard Ledbetter
Sandra "Sandy" Shumard Ledbetter died Friday, May 07, 2004. She was born
in Little Rock, on Oct. 18, 1948, the daughter of Mildred Shumard of Little Rock and the late Frank Shumard, Jr.
Sandy graduated from Hall High School in 1966, attended Arkansas State Teacher's College and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a BA in Art. She taught school at Fuller Junior High School, Miss Selma's, and Pulaski Academy where she won the award for Teacher of The Year her first year.
She left Pulaski Academy to join President Bill Clinton in his comeback race for Governor. In 1984 Sandy under the Walter Mondale Presidential Campaign traveled with Joan Mondale. She was later assigned to their daughter Eleanor during the 1984 National Convention. In the fall of 1984 she left the Mondale camp due to her appointment by then Governor Clinton to become the first woman Executive Director of the Democratic Party of the State of Arkansas. In 1987 she resigned her position with the State to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Nursing in 1992. In that same year she was appointed, by Governor Clinton, to the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees where she served as Secretary and chaired many committees. In 1993 she resigned from the board to work for Governor Jim Guy Tucker as his Senior Assistant. In 1998 she joined the University of Arkansas Medical Science Center and became Director of Special Services where she remained until her death.
She is survived by her mother Mildred Shumard of Little Rock, one brother Frank Shumard of Kansas City, Kansas, three daughters; Talbot Cooley and husband Matthew of Houston, Texas, Shay Pearson and husband Andy and Mitzi Tiffee and husband Robby all of Little Rock, five grandchildren Joel and John Cooley, Will Pearson, Lawson Tiffee and Fortner Tiffee.
Family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, at 607 Cambridge Place.
There will be a funeral service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Vic Nixon. Parking will be available at War Memorial Stadium with shuttle service to the church. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Reba Marion Lewis Lavender
Raleigh, NC - Reba Marion Lewis Lavender, 84, loving Mother and Granny, (formerly of Little Rock) died Saturday, Oct. 9. She is preceded in death by four brothers and a sister; a son, Rick Lavender, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Kay Hewitt and husband Clyde of Raleigh, NC; three sons, Jim Lavender and wife Gail of Bryant, AR, Jerry Lavender and wife Kathy of Searcy, AR and Bill Hefferman of Champaign, IL; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Ruebel Funeral Home on Markham, followed by burial in Pinecrest Cemetery. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
