Beth Hess Taylor
Beth Hess Taylor passed away at 6:00 Thursday morning at the Woodland Hills Retirement Center. Her son, Mark, was with her and she was well attended by the nursing care staff. She is survived by Mark, his wife Gillian and daughter Rhianna, her son Byron, of Little Rock, and his daughters Amanda and Claire and their mother Lynn, son Alan of San Carlos, California, his wife Angela and their children Leo and Elisa and her older sister Dorothy in Washington state.
She was born
July 20, 1917 in Oklahoma City, and raised there and in Wichita, and Fort Scott, Kansas. Her parents were Esther Bertholf and Lee Charles Hess. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Fine Arts, and was an accomplished realistic and impressionistic painter, and sculptor. Her skills in knitting, needlepoint, cross stitch and the range of textile arts produced many, many outstanding works. A true artist, she was touched by natural beauty and helped her sons and others see the world with an artist's eye for color and composition. She rose above the challenges of the infirmities of her later life with courage, strength and dignity and was supported by dear friends Mildred Wilson, Pat Bland and Dan and Carolyn Cashman.
A service for family and close friends will be held Saturday, August 21, at 10:00 am at Second Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers or other memorials, Beth would wish that those who knew and loved her enjoy a piece of new art, or to revisit a piece of art in her memory.
Victoria Cross Tarpley
Victoria Cross Tarpley, 90, died in Little Rock, on October 8, 2004. She was born
on July 14, 1914, at Pendleton Plantation in Desha County, Arkansas, the second child of Victoria Goree Cross and Clay Rice Cross. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Mack Tarpley; two sisters, Mollie Cross Starmer Haley of Pine Bluff and Camille Cross Dudney Sharpe of Texarkana, Arkansas; and a brother, Clay Rice Cross of Dumas, Arkansas.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Tarpley Logan of Vail, Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. Griffin Smith, Sr., of Little Rock.
Funeral arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home with a private burial in Warren, Arkansas, at a later date.
Mary Evelyn Plowman Tarbell
Evelyn Plowman Tarbell, 74, of Little Rock, and resident at Parkway Village passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2004.
She was born
in Little Rock, on July 25, 1930 and was preceded in death by her parents Charles Spencer and Marguerite Plowman; and her daughter, Mary Beth.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chuck and their sons John and Charles. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Plowman, and sister, Elizabeth Plowman.
Evelyn attended Little Rock High, class of 47, and graduated from Washington U (St. Louis) and was a member of Delta Delta Delta.
She was a long time volunteer at Arkansas Children Hospital, and dearly loved "Rocking Her Babies". She was also a long time volunteer at Presbyterian Village and on the Board of Directors.
She had many friends and acquaintances in Little Rock, and elsewhere who unfailingly described her as one of the sweetest people they had ever met.
The family wishes to Thank the may people who so lovingly and compassionately cared for "Miss Evelyn" these past few months, especially Shannon, Mary, Lucy, and Baptist Hospice.
Lastly, our thanks to the dear friends at Parkway Village, both residents and staff.
Interment will be a private service for the family only on Saturday. A memorial service will be held at her request at 2:00 PM Sunday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, #1 Covenant Drive, Little Rock, AR 72211.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
Warren Harding Sugg
Warren Harding Sugg, age 82, of Little Rock, died Friday, July 30, 2004. He was born
in Little Rock, and graduated from Mabelvale High School. He Joined the Army Air Corp serving during World War II as a radio operator in the North African Theatre. Returning after the war, Mr. Sugg married
Eloise Irmen Sugg who died in 2001. He attended Little Rock Junior College, later beginning his 30 year career in Civil Service working with the United States Postal Services. Warren had also received his electrician's licenses. He loved fishing and camping and making birdhouses, constructing many Martin houses for his friends.
He is survived by three sons; Richard Sugg and wife Phyllis of Alexander, Charles Sugg and wife Laura of Kattie, Texas, Michael Sugg of Benton, two daughters Georgette Price and husband Raymond of Alexander, Sandra Gattin and husband Tommy of Alexander, two brothers; William Sugg and wife Marie of Hensley, Arkansas, Donald Sugg of Little Rock, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will a visitation Monday from 5 to 7pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 10am Tuesday at Martin Cemetery
officiated by Brother Bobby Ashcraft.
Rita Joe Best Streepey
Rita Joe Best Streepey, Age 82, of Little Rock, passed away on September 18, 2004. She was born
on June 20, 1922 in Texarkana, to the late Hazy Faye and Joe Wheeler Best. Her husband, John Paul Streepey, Jr., and son John Paul Streepey, III preceded her in death.
Rita was assistant manager at Moses Melody Shop and later in sales at M.M. Cohn's.
Survivors include a brother, John Hardin Best of Asheville, North Carolina; three daughters, Nancy S. Hinkle of Panama City Beach, Florida; Camille S. Goff of Dallas, Texas; and Allison Streepey of Little Rock; and son Joseph William "Bill" Streepey of Hot Springs; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arkansas Hospice Center, 5600 West 12th Street, Little Rock.
Marjorie Stovesand
Marjorie Stovesand, age 76, of Stuttgart, died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. She was born
August 21, 1928 to the late Claude C. Brown and Vida Mae Dockery Brown. She grew up in Stuttgart, and attended Stuttgart High School. Margie was married
to Ed Stovesand on December 13, 1944 and this union has lasted over 59 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald, Stoy C., Lloyd and Buster Brown. Her loving husband Ed survives her as does her daughter Claudia Hogue (Jerry) of Fayetteville and her son Jay Stovesand (Debbie) of Carlisle. Four grandchildren survive her, Melissa Broadhurst of Fayetteville, Jason and Eric Stovesand of Carlisle and Erin Stovesand of Fayetteville. In addition she is survived by three great-grandchildren, Hannah Neyens of Fayetteville and Meyah and Aden Stovesand of Carlisle. Margie is also survived by one devoted sister, Vida Marie Ruff of Stuttgart who has shared her home with Margie and Ed for the past twenty three years. Two special friends, Katie Heien and Glynadean Thomas, both of Stuttgart also survive her as do many other relatives and friends.
She was a devoted mother and homemaker and in earlier years had worked at Hartley Flying Service, Grant's Liquor Store and Weaver's Liquor Store.
The family will be at the Ruff home at 501 East 6th in Stuttgart. Memorials are requested to the Stuttgart Agricultural Museum, St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the chapel of St. John's Lutheran Church, 5th and College Streets in Stuttgart. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 31 at St. John's Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Lone Tree Cemetery.
Harry G. Steinbeck
Harry G. Steinbeck, age 79, of Little Rock, formerly of West Helena died September 2, 2004. He was born
May 10, 1925 in Lexa, AR to the late Henry and Kittie Steinbeck.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlene Steinbeck; two children, son, Greg Steinbeck of Little Rock and daughter, Debbie Roe and her husband Joe of Little Rock; and one granddaughter, Madeline Ann Steinbeck of Little Rock. He is also survived by two older brothers, Howard Steinbeck of North Little Rock and Homer Steinbeck of Sherwood.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Alan Eugene Stallings
Alan Eugene Stallings, 84, of Morrilton, died on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 after a long illness. Born February 2, 1920 to James Robert and Adeline Prudence Hill Stallings, he was the descendant of a pioneer Conway County family who came to the area in 1850. He attended public schools in Morrilton and graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville with a B.S. degree in agricultural science. He was in the agribusiness in Conway County and was the co-owner of Stallings' Brothers Feed Mills.
Alan was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrilton, where he was a Deacon, a youth group leader, and active in Boy Scouts of America. He served as president of the Board of Trustees of Arkansas Polytechnic College in Russellville. He received the Bronze Star Medal "for meritorious service in connection with operations against the enemy while serving with a Marine pioneer shore party in the battles of BOUGAINVILLE, GUAM, and IWO JIMA. As a Captain in the Third Marine Division at IWO JIMA, he directed the pioneer shore party operations in the construction of a lateral beach road over terrain covered with battle debris, shell holes and mines, thereby establishing the first usable truck passage between Yellow and Blue beaches."
Alan was the mainstay of his family, a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Walt Stallings, two sons, Dr. Alan Stallings, Jr. and his wife Carrie Ann Kirkpatrick Stallings of Jackson, Mississippi, and Dr. Walt Stallings and his wife Claudia Hammans Stallings of Little Rock, and his grandchildren: Hammans and his wife Christine Clay Stallings, Taylor, Frances, Ann Walt, and Alan 111, all of whom will miss his presence deeply.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to the nursing and medical staff of I-C, Tobin Center, Veterans Administration, North Little Rock, for the long term care they lovingly provided.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrilton at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, May 8 and, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to that Church, 105 West Church Street, Morrilton, AR 72110.
