William Smith
Mr. William Henry Smith, age 80, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, October 10, 2003 at his home.
He was born Monday, January 8, 1923 in Kullituklo, Oklahoma. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser, a U.S. Coast Guard and Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents: John Lewis and Inez Seay Smith.
He is survived by his wife: Wanda Lee Vickers Smith of De Queen; his children: John Douglas Smith of De Queen, Robert Keith Smith of Van Buren, Arkansas, Sharon Smith Miesner of Ft. Smith, and Phil Stacy Smith of Gentry, Arkansas; his grandchildren: Mathew Smith of Germany, Justin Smith of De Queen, Shannon Sandage of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, William Smith and Derek Smith, both of Gentry, Arkansas; his great-grandchildren: Amanda Smith and Tya Smith, both of Germany; one sister: Jerry Ann Morris of De Queen; his stepmother: Effie Smith of De Queen; and a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services of Mr. Smith were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Keith Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Chapel Hill cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, October 13 at the funeral home.
John Heath
John “Hoppy” Heath, age 58, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 in the Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Board Camp cemetery, near Mena, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born to Robert and Belle Lewis Heath at Hartford, Ark., on December 17, 1944. He was an employee of the Sevier County Farmers Coop, working since 1979. He attended the Grace Baptist Church of De Queen.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Heath in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Aline Peek Heath of De Queen; one daughter, Melissa Cassady of Springdale; six brothers, Bill Heath of Kansas City, Mo., George Arron Heath of Seminole, Dean Heath, Delton Heath, and Jody Dink Heath all of Mena, and B. J. Heath of Bearden; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and newphews.
Doyle J. Price
Doyle J. Price, age 64, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 in UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.
He was born Dec. 20, 1939 in Wickes to Cecil and Gladys Lyle Price; was a retired business owner; and a member of First Baptist Church of De Queen.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Price of De Queen; a son, Ty Price of Clarksville; a daughter, Toni Davis of Little Rock; his mother, Gladys Price of De Queen; three sisters, Betty Warren and Dexta Browning, both of De Queen, and Deloris Farley of Gillham; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 in Baker cemetery with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at the funeral home.
Viola Hill
Mrs. Viola Hill, age 71, resident of Dierks, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 in Burg cemetery with James McRae, minister, officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
She was born April 16, 1932 in Dierks to Charles Wesley and Ella Bailey Shepherd; was a homemaker; and a member of Liberty Hill Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her parents; and one son, Marlin Hill.
She is survived by her husband, L.M. Hill of Dierks; one daughter, Marie Pitchford of Dierks; one brother, C.W. Shepherd of De Queen; one sister, Wilma Morris of De Queen; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Thomas Edwards
Thomas Edwards, age 90, resident of De Queen, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 in McCurtain County Hospital in Idabel, Okla.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Alferd Huff officiating. Burial followed in Watson cemetery in Watson, Okla.
He was born June 16, 1913 in Watson, Okla.; was a logger; and a member of the Holiness Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Lavern Carterby Edwards; three brothers, Orbie Edwards, Ozzy Edwards and Orval Edwards; two sisters, Pauline Stenson and Alene Padgent; and his parents, Morris and Nora Webb Adams Edwards.
He is survived by two stepsons, George Watson of Watson, Okla., and Aaron Watson of Grannis; five stepdaughters, Shirley Rosas of Batesville, Mary Hurlocker, Arabella Sanchez, Virginia Johnson and Doris Gonzalez, all of De Queen; 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Henry Thomas Meeks
Henry Thomas “Pete” Meeks, age 88, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2003 in a Longview, Tex., hospital.
Memorial services were held Friday, Nov. 30 in Church of Faith at Longview.
He was born Oct. 9, 1915 at De Queen to William and Nettie Lee Wilson Meeks; was a retired boilermaker; a member of Church of Faith; a former constable at Starks, La.; and a horse trainer.
He is survived by two brothers, George Meeks of Dierks and Robert Meeks of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Amanda Meeks Henson of Fayetteville; and two nieces.
Josephine Stone
Josephine Nalley Stone, 90 years, 11 months, 29 days of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 20, 2003.
Mrs. Stone was born November 22, 1912 in the Rock Hill community in Lockesburg.
She worked as a LPN at De Queen General Hospital for years, was co-owner of Paul's Dariburger and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lynn Stone in 1990, and her parents, William Jones and Ruth Little Nalley.
Survivors include her only son and daughter-in-law: Paul Dean and Betty Ann Stone, of De Queen; one sister: Donreth Laird; one brother: William J. "Bill" Nalley of Grandview, Missouri; one grandson: Flint M. Stone of De Queen; one granddaughter, Paula Rose of Uniontown, Arkansas; ten great-grandchildren; and one niece and two nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday, November 24, 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill cemetery, with Brother Faron Rogers officiating.
Sarah Talley
Sarah Rachel Irvan Talley, age 90, died Sunday, December 14, 2003 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 31, 1913 in Horatio. She was a homemaker and a member of the Williamson Community Church.
Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by her parents: B.F. and Sarah Jane Stover Irvan; one daughter: Shirley Gill; one son: Wayne Talley; five brothers: Jesse Irvan, Claude "Buck" Irvan, Johnny Irvan, Henry "Bunder" Irvan and Lawrence "Red" Irvan; five sister: Trilby Nickerson. Violet Williamson, Mary "Bob" Williamson, Verna Ashley and Frankie Patton.
She is survived by two brothers: Leonard Irvan and Russell Irvan, both of Horatio and three sisters: Sybel Young of Shreveport, Louisiana, Evelyn Young of Turlock, California and Della Mae Young of Horatio. She is also survived by her husband: Tommy Talley; three daughters and sons-in-law: Louise and Otis Lay of Atlanta, Texas, Donna and James Mitchell of Horatio and Marie and Lowell Denton of Longview, Texas; two sons and daughter-in-law: Larry and Glenda Talley of Lewisville, Texas, Kenneth and Angelea Talley of De Queen; one son-in-law: Phillip Gill of Shreveport and one daughter-in-law: Jayne Talley of Whitesboro, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Talley were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial followed in the Clear Creek cemetery.
The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 16 at the funeral home.
