Mrs. Jewell Bush
Mrs. Jewell Marie Jones Bush, age 93, a resident of Bossier City, La., formerly of De Queen, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 in Shreveport, La.
She was born August 23, 1910 in Durant, Oklahoma to L. D. and Ida Mae Young Jones. She was a homemaker, a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in De Queen, and current member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bossier City.
She was preceded in death by her husband: James L. "Bud" Bush in 1992.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Katherine Bush of Bossier City, Louisiana; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Keith and Tempie Bush of Bossier City and David and Debbie Bush of Tyler, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Crystal Bush, Justin Bush, Zachary Bush, Thomas Bush and Katherine Bush.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bush were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Al Edon officiating. Burial followed in the Sweet Home cemetery.
The family received friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2003 at the funeral home.
Era Mae Pendergrass
Mrs. Era Mae Clenney Pendergrass, age 93, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Monday, November 17, 2003 at her home.
She was born March 29, 1910 in DeKalb, Texas to Elmer and Eva Freeze Clenney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Pendergrass, in 1975.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law: Enois Temple of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ruth and Charles Greer of Colleyville, Texas and Mary Blackwood of Mesquite, Texas; one sister: Myrtle Addington of De Queen; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pendergrass were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Wall officiating. Burial followed in the Millwee cemetery.
Sarah Morgan
Mrs. Sarah Hoover Austin Morgan, age 69, resident of Winthrop, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 in Ashdown.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 in Crossroads Baptist Church with Virgil Romine, minister, officiating. Burial followed in Pauley cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
She was born May 7, 1934 at Cerro Gordo to A.H. and Emma Frady Hoover; was a homemaker; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Loye Gene Austin; one brother, James Hoover; and a nephew, Greg Hoover.
She is survived by two sons, Al Austin of Winthrop and Rick Austin of West Minister, Md.; three daughters, Teressa Finch of Hot Springs, Dena Armstrong of Buras, La., and Tanya Fawcett of Winthrop; two brothers, Sundown Hoover of Winthrop and Bill Hoover of Foreman; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Larry Lee Bass
Larry Lee Bass, age 53, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 in North Dakota.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 in Redmen cemetery with Pastor Don Fortner officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
He was born May 17, 1950 at Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., to Howard and Bertha Bingham Bass; was a truck driver; and a Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by one son, Cameron Bass of California; two daughters, Michelle Bass of Idaho and Amber Bass of De Queen; his parents; one sister, Barbara Camarillo of De Queen; one niece, and one nephew.
Cleo Bassham
Mrs. Cleo Doss Schoolfield Bassham, age 92, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, in Shreveport.
She was born July 3, 1911, at King, Arkansas. She was a graduate of De Queen High School and Fort Smith Business College. She served as Deputy Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Sevier County 1933-36 and was a cashier of Southwestern Power & Electric Co.
She retired as office secretary of Shreveport Lodge No. 122, B.P.O. Elks in 1962.
She served on the board of Sevier County Library, Museum and Cossatot Arts and Crafts Association.
She was a member of Gillham Methodist Church where she taught the Youth Sunday School Class for nine years.
She was a member of the senior class of 1930, voted "cutest girl" in senior class and was one of two to letter in women's basketball.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, David A. Schoolfield, who died in 1982 and Carl a. Bassham, Sr., who died in 1991; and a sister, Opal Ward.
Survivors are two sons, David Clay Schoolfield of Vallejo, California, and Guy Ray Schoolfield of Bossier City, Louisiana; two stepsons, Clifford Bassham of New Boston, Texas, and Carl Bassham, Jr., of Gillham; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bassham were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Rev. Bill Fish officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery.
Paul Alexander Knox
Paul Alexander Knox, age 46, resident of Broken Bow, Okla., and formerly of Horatio, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003.
He was born Oct. 29, 1957 in Bakersfield, Calif.; and was a veteran who served in the U.S. Marines from 1979-1983. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Edward Knox; a son, Paul Alexander Knox Jr.; and a grandson, Paul Alexander Knox II.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Kellog of Kenosha, Wisc.; two brothers, Joe Knox and George Knox; and two sisters, Margaret Hefner and Teresa Knox.
John Heath
John “Hoppy” Heath, age 58, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 in the Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Board Camp cemetery, near Mena, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
He was born to Robert and Belle Lewis Heath at Hartford, Ark., on December 17, 1944. He was an employee of the Sevier County Farmers Coop, working since 1979. He attended the Grace Baptist Church of De Queen.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Heath in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Aline Peek Heath of De Queen; one daughter, Melissa Cassady of Springdale; six brothers, Bill Heath of Kansas City, Mo., George Arron Heath of Seminole, Dean Heath, Delton Heath, and Jody Dink Heath all of Mena, and B. J. Heath of Bearden; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and newphews.
Robert A. Bishop
Robert A. Bishop, age 89, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003.
He was born Nov. 20, 1914 in Dermott. He began his teaching career in 1940 after completing a Masters degree at the University of Arkansas; first taught as well as coached football at Arkansas City High School; then went on to become Superintendent of Schools at Wilmar before moving to Lockesburg in 1948. He completed 25 years of distinguished service as Superintendent of Lockesburg Schools before his retirement in 1973. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Eddye Marion Bishop.
He is survived by a son, Bob Ed Bishop; three sisters, Louise Dennington, Mary Nell Crowder and Mildred Barham; one brother, William Bishop; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg with Rev. J.R. Callicott and Lynn McClure officiating. Burial followed in Coulter Memorial Gardens at Lockesburg under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
