Mary Edgin

Mary Edgin, age 81, resident of Columbus, Ohio, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004.

She was born Sept. 2, 1922 in Ada, Okla.; graduated from Ada High School in 1940; attended Oklahoma City University where she played on the tennis team and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority; earned a Master of Education degree from Baylor University in 1970; taught school in the Rice and Corsicana Independent School Districts for 15 years; became a disability counselor for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, retiring in 1981. She was a member of ZONTA Professional organization; served as an officer in many educational associations along with PTA and PTO; and was a Methodist.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Gerald Edgin of Horatio and Dr. Richard Alan Edgin of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Nancy Smith of Corsicana, Tex.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for the immediate family in Columbus, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 1700, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633.

Susan Gail Smith

Susan Gail Sunderman Smith, age 40, resident of Nashville, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003.

She was born Oct. 9, 1963 in De Queen to Leroy and Willie Lee Smith Sunderman; was an LPN for Dr. Joe King; and a member of First Christian Church in Nashville. She was predeceased by her father, Leroy Sunderman; paternal grandparents, Charles Frederick and Lydia Susan Sunderman; and maternal grandparents, Willis Smith, Orbra Lee Cantlon Harrison and Reginald A. Harrison.

She is survived by her husband, Stacy Smith of Ozan; two children, Dillon Matthew Smith and Macy Gail Smith, both of Ozan; her mother, Willie Lee Sunderman of Nashville; two brothers, Dennis Sunderman and Curtis Sunderman, both of Nashville; three sisters, Dianne Barger, Christie Stone and Connie Wincher, all of Nashville; and number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Samuel Peebles and Carl Teel officiating. Burial followed in Antioch cemetery under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Howard Memorial Hospital or the charity of your choice.

Elmer Ray Pitchford

Elmer Ray Pitchford, age 51, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 in Little Rock.

He was born Oct. 31, 1952 in De Queen to Elza B. “Jody” and Rose Goodman Pitchford. He was a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church. He was predeceased by a daughter in 1977, his father in 2000, and a brother in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Hill Pitchford of Dierks; two daughters, Georgeanna Pitchford of Amity and Samantha Smith of Dierks; four sons, Johnny Ray Pitchford of Glenwood, Obie Pitchford of New Hope, Blake Pitchford and Lane Pitchford, both of Dierks; his mother, Rose Mae Pitchford of Dierks; two sisters, Caroline Halcombe of Dierks and Tina Richardson of Glenwood; two brothers, Roy Pitchford and Calvin Pitchford, both of Dierks; one grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 in Mt. View Baptist Church with Stan Bailey and Kenny Bizzell officiating. Burial followed in Burg cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at the Dierks Chapel.

Charlie Rodriguez

Charlie Lagunas Rodriguez, age 18, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003.

He was born Aug. 23, 1985 in Totoltepec, Guerrero, Mexico to Emilio Lagunas and Juana Rodriguez; was a poultry catcher for Tyson in Broken Bow, Okla.; and a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his parents, Emilio Lagunas and Juana Rodriguez of Totoltepec, Mexico; three brothers, Omar Lagunas of De Queen, Yovani Lagunas and Ricardo Lagunas, both of Totoltepec, Mexico; three sisters, Clara Lagunas, Tania Lagunas and Mayra Lagunas; his grandparents, Filimon Lagunas, Donacina Flores, Fidel Rodriguez and Maria Magdalena Gouzaga, all of Mexico.

Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15 in St. Barbara’s Catholic Church with Father John Kerr officiating. Burial was in Totoltepec cemetery in Totoltepec, Mexico, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Lewis Hill

Mr. Lewis Hill, age 84, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at his home.

He was born August 22, 1919 in Umpire, Ark., to Cleve and Alice Carter Hill. He was a retired farmer; a sergeant with the 57th Signal Corps during World War II; and a member of Liberty Hill Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norene Kesterson Hill.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Grover and Ramona Hill of Dierks, and Len and Cindy Hill of Bryant, Ark.; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Richard Johnson of Nashville, Ark.; two brothers, Marvin Hill of Umpire and Lawrence Hill of Dierks; seven grandchildren, Becky Harkey of Broken Bow, Okla., David Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dustin Hill of Conway, Ark., Matthew Hill of Dierks, Heather Hill of Dierks, Sally Miller of Bryant and Katie Hill of Bryant; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Hill were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 in the Liberty Hill Church of Christ with Gene Jester, Brent Alexander and Buster Bonner, ministers, officiating. Burial followed in the Burg cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Dierks Chapel.

Linda Ruth Hedden

Mrs. Linda Ruth Tallman Hedden, age 46, resident of Little Rock, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 in Little Rock.

She was born June 10, 1957 in Baytown, Tex., to Richard B. Tallman Sr. and Clyta Gore Tallman; was a manager of Andover Place Retirement Facility; and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Horatio. She was predeceased by her father, Richard B. Tallman Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Hedden of Little Rock; a son, Richie Hill of Leavenworth, Kan.; a daughter, Shauna Tise of Kernersville, NC; her mother, Clyta Tallman of Horatio; a brother, Dick Tallman of Horatio; a sister, Mildred Walker of Horatio; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 in Millwee cemetery in Horatio with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.

Tommie Joe Kitchens

Tommie Joe Kitchens, age 74, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at his home.

He was born Sept. 17, 1929 in Dierks to Ted A. and Hallie Jo Jackson Kitchens; was a member of Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church; served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949; was retired from Reynolds Metals Co. in 1985; worked part-time at Hurricane Creek Federal Credit Union and served on the board for over 30 years. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Ted A. Kitchens Jr., Henry Kitchens and Clois Kitchens; and one sister, Violet Richards.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Kitchens; a son, Joe Kitchens; a daughter, Patsy James; his step-mother, Ima Prather, Dierks; three brothers, Raymond Kitchens of Fayetteville, Derrell Kitchens of Scott, and Cleatis Kitchens of Dierks; sisters, Majol Wheeler of Murfreesboro, Wanda Chenowith, LaVeda Reed and Gerselta Halter, all of De Queen; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6 in Ashby Funeral Home Chapel of Benton with Bro. Robbie Horne and Eddie Kitchens officiating. Burial followed in New Rosemont cemetery in Benton.

Memorial may be made to Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at the funeral home.

Sadot Jonas Sanchez

Sadot Jonas Mendoza Sanchez, age 19, resident of Mineral Springs, died Friday, Dec. 26 at Mineral Springs.

He was born Oct. 9, 1984 in Vera Cruz, Mexico; and was an employee of Tyson Foods Co.

Viewing was Wednesday, Dec. 31 at Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen. Funeral services and burial will be in Aca Yucan, Vera Cruz, Mexico.
