Frank Cochran, Jr.
Frank M. Cochran, Jr., age 82, of Bradley, Ark. died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at The Willis Knighton Hospital in Bossier City, La. He was born June 2, 1921 in Bradley.
He was a member of The Bradley Baptist Church, owner of Cochran Hardware in Bradley, member of the Rotary Club, retired from Bradley Fire Department, graduate of Ouachita Baptist College and a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife 52 years, Virginia Cochran.
He is survived by his wife: Everlene Cochran of Bradley; two sons: Edward Cochran of Bradley and Glenn Cochran of Ft. Worth, Texas; three daughters: Susie Hargis of Monticello, Marion Morgan of Woodbridge, Va, and Alice Carlson of Auburn, Ala.; mother: Hortense Cochran of Stamps; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Bradley Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Allen and Rev. Paul Bunkhalter officiating with burial in the Walnut Hill cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Visitation was from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 12 noon on Thursday at The Smith Funeral Home in Bradley.
James M. Gentry
James M. Gentry, age 74, resident of Grannis, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 in Little Rock.
He was born Nov. 23, 1929 in Van Alestyne, Tex., to the late Oden Gentry and Ader Elmer Morris Gentry; served in the United States Army during the Korean War; was a fireman; a Mason; and a member of Wickes Masonic Lodge #548, Disabled American Veterans, and the Church of Christ. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Sidney Gentry; and two sisters, Opal Ketner and Isabel Gentry.
He is survived by his wife, Reba Jean Powell Gentry of Grannis; a brother, Odean A. Gentry of Grannis; six sisters, Willie Shaw of Mathis, Tex., Janell Bush of Pottsboro, Tex., Merlene Logan of Burleson, Tex., Lorraine Smith of Smithville, Okla., Nettie Belle Putman of Hooks, Tex., and Janice Stuckey of Whitesboro, Tex.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 in Oak Grove cemetery in Wickes with Bro. David Jacobs officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
Herman Cummins
Herman Leeroy Cummins, a retired automotive collision repair specialist died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at his home in Sun, La., at the age of 76.
He was born in Lebanon, Mo. and raised in De Queen. He relocated to New Orleans in 1955 and for the last 21 years has resided in the village of Sun. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, inducted in March of 1945, and serving with the 6th Combat Engineer Battalion during the occupation of Korea and the Philippine Islands.
He was married
for 51 years to the late Charlene Daniel Cummins.
Survivors include three sons, Rick Cummins of Metairie, La., Dale Cummins of Walker, La., and Mike Cummins of Covington, La.; three daughters, Carolyn Reggio of Sun, Kathy Powers of Walker, Sheila Callahan of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Josephine Derrington of De Queen; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. at Shoen Funeral Home at Covington. Visitation was Tuesday from 6 till 9 p.m. and on Wednesday after 9 a.m. Burial was in Sun Baptist Church cemetery.
Jessie Walston, Jr.
Jessie Walston, Jr., 80, of Dierks, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services were scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 26, at the Dierks Church of Christ, with James McRae and Lowell Lites officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
Mr. Walston was born March 23, 1923 in Oklahoma, the son of the late Jessie James and Ada Coffman Walston.
He was a member of the Dierks Church of Christ and a WWII Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen Walston of Dierks, Ark.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip W. and wife, Judy, Walston of Dierks, Ark. and Donald "Bud" and wife, Peggy, Walston of Hot Springs, Ark.; two daughters and husband, Janice Hughes of Dierks, Ark. and Kay and husband, Dwight, Pinkerton of De Queen, Ark.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
William Edward Helms
William Edward “Eddie” Helms, age 44, resident of Gillham, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003.
He was born Oct. 10, 1959 in Kellogg, Idaho to John Carl Helms Sr. and Geraldine Smith Helms; was a mechanic for Tri-Lakes Services; and a member of Gillham Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Barnes Helms of Gillham; a daughter, Tonya Marie Mason of Dierks; a son, Marvin Ben Burleson of Gillham; a sister, Janet Sue King of Nashville; a brother, John Helms of Gillham; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Fish and Rev. Bruce Short officiating. Burial will follow in Valley cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home of Maxine Barnes, 395 Memory Lane, Gillham.
Guy L. Culver
Guy L. Culver, age 65, resident of Mt. Enterprise, Tex., died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 in Henderson, Tex.
He was born July 2, 1938 in Titus County, Tex.; was a retired minister serving churches in Texas, Arkansas and Maryland for 40 years; and a member of Landmark Baptist Church of Mt. Enterprise. He was predeceased by his parents, F.D. and Lura Culver; two brothers, Ralph Culver and James Orville Culver; and a sister, Louise Franklin.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marcia Culver of Longview, Tex.; a daughter, Kim Wilson of Longview, Tex.; two brothers, Toby Culver of Omaha, Tex., and H.W. “Bo” Culver of Arlington, Tex.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at Landmark Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise with Rev. Darrell Owens, Billy Pearson and Wes Veazey officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Heights under the direction of Crawford-Crim-Bryan Funeral Home of Henderson, Tex.
Ramey Minor
Mr. Ramey Howard Minor, age 22, a resident of Idabel, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2004.
He was born October 29, 1981 in De Queen, Arkansas. Ramey loved outdoors with Tremaine and playing his guitar to Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven". He was employed with Tri-Lakes Services in Valliant, Oklahoma.
Ramey is survived by his parents: Robert E. Minor of Grannis, Arkansas, and Virgia Reich of Idabel, Oklahoma; two brothers: Robert E. Minor, III, of Idabel, Oklahoma and Jessie Minor of Grannis, Arkansas; one sister: Amanda Michelle Minor of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; one niece: Savana Brown of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; two grandmothers: Mary Roberson of Gillham, Arkansas and Lasca Lewis of Goodyear, Arizona; one great-grandmother: Mae Roden of De Queen, Arkansas; three aunts, one uncle, and a special friend, Ann Owens of Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in the Valley cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
Mildred Crews
Mrs. Mildred Crews, age 90, of De Queen, died Friday, January 2, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Crews was born June 5, 1913 at Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen and was active in various youth organizations, including the P. T. A. and the Girls Scouts. Mrs. Crews joys in life were her family and young people.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Jim Woodruff of Rogers, Ark.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Quintus Crews of Rogers, Ark., and Wendell and Avis Crews of Pikeville, Tenn.; three grandsons, Gary Crews, Kyle Woodruff and Patrick Woodruff.
Graveside funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at the Redmen cemetery with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating. The family received friends on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital, the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the First Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
