Evelyn Southard
Mrs. Evelyn Southard, age 88, resident of Mena, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 in Mena Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 3, 1915 in Story to the late Robert Allen and Lillie Bell Breashears Stephens; was retired from Ranova Shirt Factory; and a member of Grace Bible Church, where she was the nursery babysitter for over 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband, James Richard Southard on Aug. 18, 1971.
She is survived by a son, Joe A. Southard of Mooringsport, La.; three daughters, VeRue Wheaten of Waldron, Mi., Beverly Reed of Lockesburg, and Sarah Curry of Mena; a sister, Gerti Owens of Story; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 in Grace Bible Church with Rev. William Probasco officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Fork cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Bible Church building fund.
Ferrell L. Goins
Ferrell L. Goins, age 70, resident of Wake Village, Tex., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1933 in Horatio; was retired from the Army; a retired McDonald’s manager; a member of the American Legion, Wake Village First Baptist Church, and Adult 2 Sunday school class; a Mason; a Shriner; and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Goins of Wake Village, Tex.; two sons, Rick Goins of Texarkana and Mike Goins of Flower Mound, Tex.; a daughter, Carol Pearce of Grapevine, Tex.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 in Wake Village First Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Norvell and Dr. Cherry Creek officiating. Burial with military rites followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.

Homer Madison Combs
Mr. Homer Madison Combs, age 93, a resident of Wickes, Ark., went to be with our Lord on February 5, 2004 at Sevier HealthCare in De Queen.
He was born on October 14, 1910 in Canandiaqua, New York to Murry and Laura Fiero Combs. He was a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII and Korea, was a member of the V.F.W. Musgrave-Hankins Post 10484, was the fire chief at the Wickes Fire Department for several years, was also a member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Arkansas and the Wickes Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Christa Bell Sumner Combs in 1990, and a brother: Roy Combs.
He is survived by a daughter: Laura Corenevsky, and a son: Homer Combs, Jr., both of Oahu, Hawaii; special friends: Ken and Marilyn Kring of Lexington, Nebraska, and Joe and Joan Compagna of Wickes.
A memorial service is pending and will be announced later by Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Nelda Wilkinson
Nelda Wilkinson, age 58, resident of Foreman, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 in St. Michael’s Health Care Center in Texarkana.
She was born April 14, 1945 in Winthrop; was secretary and treasurer of Wilkinson Oil Co. of Foreman; elected to the Foreman City Council in 1994; and Mayor of the City of Foreman in 2000. She was predeceased by her father, J.D. Maynard.
She is survived by her husband, David Wilkinson of Foreman; a son, Dwain Maynard of Winthrop; a daughter, Sonja Wilkinson of Loveland, Colo.; a step-daughter, Rebecca Harkey of Denver, Colo.; her mother, Eurby Maynard of Winthrop; a brother, Neil Maynard of Denver, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 in First Baptist Church of Foreman with Rev. Duane Blackmore officiating. Burial followed in Gravelly cemetery under the direction of Madden Funeral Services, Inc. of Ashdown.
Velma Jane Pell
Mrs. Velma Jane Bailey Pell, age 96, resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 in Brookewood Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 29, 1908 in McAlester, Okla., to John and Mary Bailey; was a homemaker; a cook; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude Pell; a son, Jimmy Pell; and two grandchildren, Kathy Moher and Ricky Pell.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Smith of Lockesburg; a son, J.C. Pell of Lockesburg; a sister, Lillie Pell of Oakland, Calif.; a brother, Johnny Pell of Oregon; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Henry Williams and Barbara Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in Lockesburg cemetery.
Betty Jean Russell
Mrs. Betty Jean Fox Russell, age 67, resident of De Queen, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 in St. Edward’s Hospital at Fort Smith.
She was born Feb. 26, 1936 at Arkinda to Richard Otto and Emma Stapp Fox; was a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church of De Queen; was retired from the De Queen School System; and was a member of the Friends of the Library. She was predeceased by her parents; and three brothers, L.O. Fox, Earl Fox and Orace Fox.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey E. Russell of De Queen; one daughter, Dana Bowers of Mena; one brother, Bill Fox of Mena; one grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David McCord and Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the funeral home.
Rev. James M. Stone
Rev. James M. Stone, age 78, resident of Kingston, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 in Ft. Sanders Parkway Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.
He pastored Woodland Park, Pain Rock Baptist Church, New Colony Fellowship and other churches; and was a member of Paint Rock Masonic Lodge. He was predeceased by his wife, Louetta Stone; two grandsons, Mark Stone and Jody Stone; his parents, John and Cora Stone; and a brother, Freeman Stone.
He is survived by four sons, John Stone, Billy Stone, Jerry Stone and Perry Stone; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 in Fellowship cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Fellowship Baptist Church.
