Joe Martz
Joe Martz, age 81, resident of Lockesburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 in Texarkana, Tex.
He was born Dec. 29, 1922 at Lockesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Martz of Lockesburg; three sons, Larry Martz of Lockesburg, Charles Martz of Little Rock and Gwen Martz of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Cindy Williams of Texarkana; one brother, Joe Martz of Big Shady, Tex.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 in Madden Funeral Home Chapel at Ashdown with Rev. Mike Ross officiating. Burial followed in Belleville cemetery at Lockesburg.
James Archie Dreher
James Archie Dreher, age 88, resident of De Queen and formerly of Foreman, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 in Brookewood Nursing Center.
He was born Aug. 16, 1915 in Bokhoma, Okla., to James Archie and Pearlie Edith Gibson Dreher; was a farmer; rancher; a U.S. navy veteran of World War II; and a Baptist. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Franco Dreher on Dec. 5, 1999.
He is survived by nine nieces, Margaret Dreher Trent of Franklin, Ohio, Rebecca Shamburger Branson of Marshall, Tex., Sue Shamburger of Waskom, Tex., Helen Taylor of Smithville, Okla., Edith Jester of Whitewright, Tex., Wanda Jenkins of Seattle, Wash., Muriel Dykes of Sacramento, Calif., Vivian K. Bodishbaugh of Little Rock, and Miriam K. Coulehan of Silver Spring, Md.; and three nephews, Carl Dreher of Othello, Wash., Jerry Shamburger of Commerce, Tex., and Lewis Kayser Jr. of Whitewright, Tex.; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 in the Tom cemetery at Tom, Okla., under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
Cleo Munn
Cleo Munn, age 85, resident of Hope, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Hays Munn; her parents, Edith and Ware Garrett; and a sister, Jewell Cobb.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Whitley of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Bob Garrett and Jim Garrett; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Herndon Funeral Home. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 at the funeral home.
Jonnie Ganell Morris
Jonnie Ganell Morris, age 96, resident of Broken Bow, Okla., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 at her home.
She was born March 11, 1907 in Dierks to William and Melissa Price West; was a member of the Church of Christ in Broken Bow; achieved her Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and taught school for 47 years; was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, American Legion, and Retired Teacher’s Association; and was also active with the Senior Citizens for several years. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, J.B. Morris; one son, Bobby Lewis Morris; one grandson, Matthew Morris; and one sister, Gladys Leftwitch.
She is survived by her son, Wendell Morris of Broken Bow, Okla.; one brother, Price West of Lubbock, Tex.; three grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 in Denison cemetery at Idabel, Okla., with Dan Fredman officiating, under the direction of Brumley Funeral Home of Broken Bow.
Jewel Irene Taylor
Mrs. Jewel Irene Luster Taylor, age 79, resident of Grannis, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 20, 1924 in De Queen to James Edward and Sallie Bradley Luster; and was retired from Lane Poultry Plant in Grannis. She was predeceased by a son, Owen Lane Taylor.
She is survived by two daughters, Billie K. Canary of Grannis and Linda Stephens of Wickes; one son, Jame Allen Hightower of Conway; five sisters, Dorothy Nipp of Lubbock, Tex., Lena Brown of Fayetteville, Gwen Hughes of Englewood, Calif., Norine Nelson of Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Estalee Simpson of Waldron; one brother, Louis Luster of St. Louise, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. O.D. Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery.
Rev. Harold Wall
Rev. Harold Fred Wall, age 81, a resident of Horatio, Ark., died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at his home.
He was born Friday, July 14, 1922 in Horatio, Arkansas to Fred Miller and Laura Mellos Gore Wall. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard, a carpenter and retired minister of the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Harold Wall in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Avis Sackett Wall; one daughter and son-in-law, Charla and David Conatser; one grandson, Nick Conatser; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kate and Jerry Don Tabler, all of Horatio, Ark.; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Frances Wall of McGehee, Ark.; three sisters-in-law, Vivian Wall of De Queen, Ark., Margaret Wall of Lockesburg, Ark., and Claryce Wall of Cerro Gordo, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rev. Wall were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. L. Walker and John Hickle officiating. Burial followed in the Millwee cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were the elders of the church.
James Harold Hopson
James Harold Hopson, age 95, resident of Chesterfield, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 6, 2004 in a nursing center in Chesterfield.
He was born Nov. 26, 1908 in Falls Chapel; was an engineer for the Department of Agriculture; and a member of Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one son, Jim Hopson of Chesterfield, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 in Falls Chapel cemetery with Rev. Ann Holley officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
Roy Oscar Wolfe
Roy Oscar Wolfe, age 76, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at Texarkana, Tex.
He was born Jan. 29, 1927 at Keystone, Okla.; was a log cutter; and a member of the Church of Christ. He was predeceased by a son, Mike; and a daughter, Ronnie.
He is survived by two daughters, Kenny Jones of De Queen and Gerry Harris of New Hope; two brothers, Charlie Wolfe of Ft. Worth, Tex., and James “Bear” Wolfe of Springhill, La.; one sister, Dorothy Farrow of Falls Chapel Community; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 in Chapel Hill cemetery with Rev. Steve Woods officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Alice Johnson
Mrs. Alice Leeper Johnson, age 87, resident of New Boston, Tex., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 in Christus St. Michael Hospital at Texarkana.
She was born on February 26, 1916 in the Walnut Springs Community to Joseph Martin and Mary Ann Jones Leeper; was a retired schoolteacher, having taught schools in Arkansas and Texas for 37 years; and was a member of Tapp Memorial Methodist Church in New Boston, Tex. She was predeceased by her husband, Shelby Johnson.
She is survived by a brother, Walter Leeper of De Queen; two sisters, Sue Reed of New Boston, Tex., and Ruth Sportsman of Texarkana; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. Bill Fish officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.
