Floyd Watson Clark, Sr.
Floyd Watson Clark, Sr., age 82, a resident of Nashville, died Monday, March 7, 2005 at his home.
He was born March 13, 1922, at Antoine, AR, the son of the late William Thamas and Eather Omer Barker Clark. He was a member of Sunset Church of Christ. He was a past Nashville City Councilman. He was a retired Poultry Crew Manager for Tyson Foods. Inc., as well as a poultry grower and cattle farmer. Mr. Clark was a World War II army veteran.
He is survived by his life of 54 years, Anita Pearl Marshall Clark of Nashville; three children, Phyllis M. Honea, Floyd Clark, Jr., Carol Ann Bowman, all of Nashville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 11, at Sunset Church of Christ building with James H. Jamison, Eddie Bowman and Ray Nation officiating. Burial will follow in Delight cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
The family will receive friends at Latimer Funeral Home, Thursday, March 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Allie Jean Purtell
Allie Jean Purtell, age 79, a resident of Lockesburg, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Little River Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 31, 1925 in De Queen. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Time Gospel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrie Kyle Purtell on January 2, 1998; one son, Robert Buck “Bobby” Purtell; parents, Buck A. and Zora A. Slaughter Aubrey.
She is survived by three sons, David Kyle, Benny Gene and Kelly Jack Purtell all of Lockesburg; three daughters, Lynna Frances Wray of Mineral Springs, AR, Nancy Eloise Baker of Lockesburg, and Kerry Lane Hill of Murfreesboro, AR; sixteen grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Purtell were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in the Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wallace Wooten and Bro. Brock Wray officiating. Burial followed in the Falls Chapel cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family was at the home of Nancy and Ricky Baker who reside at 9242 Cotton Rd., Lockesburg.
Paul Cecil Casteel
Mr. Paul Cecil "Shorty" Casteel, Sr. age 79, a resident of Horatio, died Sunday, March 6, 2005 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born Tuesday, April 7, 1925 in Horatio to Emmett P. and Millie Chenault Casteel. He was a heavy equipment operator, former owner of Casteel Grocery, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was a POW and received the Purple Heart and a member of the First Baptist Church in Horatio.
Mr. Casteel was preceded in death by his wife, Louise "Sadie" Hawkins Casteel, May 26, 1997; and two brothers, David Casteel and Ed Casteel.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Joann Casteel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dickie Tallman and Sharon and John Wolcott, all of Horatio; one brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Ruth Casteel of Horatio and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lois Fenton also of Horatio and Mildred and Erving Billingsley of Iowa Park, TX; 6 grandchildren, Travis Tallman, Lisa Wall, Heath Casteel, Doug Casteel, Jenni Massengill and Johnna Quinn and 11 great-grandchildren, Garrett, Carlee, and Tanner Tallman, Caithlyn, Jordon and Allison Wall, Sydney Casteel, Lakyn and Charly Caye Massengill, Hannah Grace and Cannan Paul Quinn.
Graveside Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in the Horatio cemetery with Rev. Coy Arnold officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6-8, Tuesday, March 8, at the funeral home.
After the service the family was at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Horatio.
Ann Wise
Ann G. Maxey Hopper Wise, age 59, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2005 in Texarkana, Tex.
She was born December 21, 1945 in Ol’ Forrester, Arkansas to the late Louis Frank Maxey and the late Edna Ruth Smith Maxey. She was a chicken farmer by profession and was of the Protestant faith. She was united in marriage to Mr. Jimmy Wise and was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy “Jimbo” Wise of Grannis; four sons, Tim Hopper of Wickes, Jerry Hopper of Grannis, Jimmy Wise of Wickes, and James Wise of Grannis; one daughter, Kimberly Wise of Grannis; two brothers, Don Maxey of Hot Springs and Joe Maxey of Harvey; four sisters, Virginia Yandell and Patsy Owens, both of Harvey; and Linda Yandell and Norma Pierce, both of Gravely, Ark. fifteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and a score of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Wilson officiating. Interment followed at Lone Valley cemetery in Sims, Ark. under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Edward Alton Thornton
Edward Alton Thornton, age 74, of Lockesburg, Arkansas met his Lord and Savior at Heaven's gates on March 8, 2005.
Alton was born September 18, 1930 to Pat and Helena Little Thornton in the Rock Hill Community. He was a retired logger, farmer and rancher. He served Jesus as an Elder in the Lockesburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and was active in many areas of the Lord's service. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a teenager at Rock Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Yvonne King Thornton; one son, Travis Don Thornton; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Louise and Harris Clay, Helen and Earl Teague, Viola and Art Thomason, and Mildred Bismark; and one brother, Thomas Thornton.
Alton is survived by a son, Bink Thornton of Lockesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Aaron Sexton of Huntington, Ark.; his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jerry Killian of De Queen; five grandsons, Trey Thornton of Lockesburg, Justin Thornton of Nashville, Ark., Travis Cooper, Trevor Cooper, and Noah Sexton, all of Huntington; a host of relatives and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Friday, March 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rock Hill Baptist Church in Lockesburg. Burial followed in the Oddfellows cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10, at the funeral home.
Millard Thomas Penney
Millard Thomas Penney, age 78, resident of Lee’s Summit, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at State of Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
He was born Aug. 15, 1926 in De Queen; was a Navy veteran of World War II; retired from ITT Industry in 1986 as district sales manager; was leader in Boy Scout Troop #220; a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say; and a member of Lee’s Summit Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Thomas Penney Sr. and Lillie Nolen Penney; five sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Penney of the home; one daughter, Cynthia Cooper of NC; one son, Michael “Bud” Penney of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 in Langsford Funeral Home. Burial followed in Lee’s Summit cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Lee’s Summit Christian Church.
Nora Lee Hames
Mrs. Nora Lee Davis Hames, age 77, resident of Horatio, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Brookewood Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 20, 1928 at Cedar Bayou, Tex., to William Henry and Elsie Mary Clawson Davis; was a retired employee of Harvest Foods; a homemaker; and supported Crossroads Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jeff Hames; a son, Hillary Hames; and three brothers, John Keith Morrow, John Sterling Davis and William Ralph Davis.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Hames and John Robert Hames, both of Horatio; one daughter, Leeann Smith of Winthrop; two sisters, Dorothy Neely of Liberty, Tex., and Lula Danos of Conroe, Tex.; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5 in Old Center cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4 at the funeral home.
