Margie Cook Lawson
Margie Cook Lawson, age 82, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 in Hawthorne, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Cook, formerly of Sevier County.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Lawson; one son, Tim Cook of Torrance, Calif.; one daughter, Cheryl Pietro of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one nephew, Bud Rink of De Queen; and four nieces, Fern Culp and Ann Coker, both of De Queen, Virginia Boykin of Lockesburg, and Charlene Bush of Wilton.
Burial was in Hawthorne, Calif.
Joel W. Brooks
Joel W. Brooks, age 73, a resident of Horatio, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 17, 1931 in Bemis, Tenn. to Jasper and Carine Brown Brooks; was the former owner of City Food Grocery in De Queen and Brooks Store and Deli; the former store manager for A & P Grocery; currently employed with Parish Equipment in Tishomingo, Okla.; and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Miller Brooks, on Dec. 10, 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Nicol Brooks of Horatio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4 in Mt. Ida cemetery with Rev. Ralph Staggs officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at the funeral home.
Jimmy Tucker
James Dewey “Jimmy” Tucker, age 51, resident of Grannis, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1953 at Texarkana to Raymond J. and Venar Henry Tucker; and was a member of First Baptist Church of Gillham.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond L. Tucker.
He is survived by his mother, Venar Tucker of Grannis; one brother, Keith Tucker of De Queen; and two nieces.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Mineral cemetery at Gillham.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital, or any youth organization.
Roy Othel Mounts
Roy Othel Mounts, age 83, resident of Dierks, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at his home.
He was born June 28, 1921 in Burg; was a retired foreman for Weyerhaeuser; a cattle rancher; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and a member of Dierks Church of Christ where he was an elder.
Hr was preceded in death by his parents, Tessie and Estella Simmons Mounts.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Chandler Mounts; two sons, Tommy Mounts and Randy Mounts, both of Murfreesboro; one daughter, Janie Krantz of Umpire; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4 in Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae, minister, officiating. Burial followed in Burg cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at the funeral home in Dierks.
Memorials may be made to the Dierks Church of Christ.
Floreine Evans Mabry
Floreine Evans Mabry died Tuesday, March 1, 2005.
She was born in Hope, Arkansas, August 11, 1921. Loving and kind in all her ways, upright and just to the end of her days, sincere and true in her heart and mind, beautiful memories she left behind. She devoted her life to family and friends.
She graduated from De Queen High School and Draughn's School of Business. She was retired Executive Director of the Housing Authority, County of Sevier, and former owner and operator of Mabry's Department Store. She was a World War II Veteran, and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.
Mrs. Mabry was preceded in death by her loving husband, R.C. Mabry, November 1, 1995.
She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Mabry of De Queen and Brad W. Mabry of Shreveport, La.; one sister, Dortha Gannaway of Dallas, Texas; one niece and two nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at Redmen cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2005 with Rev. Randy Davis officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Floyd Henderson Richardson
Floyd Henderson Richardson, age 93, of Clinton, formerly of Wickes, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in Clinton.
He was born September 13, 1911 in Manchester, Tennessee to the late George C. Richardson and the late Novella C. Parker Richardson. Mr. Richardson was attending Clinton Church of the Nazarene in Clinton, Arkansas and he was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wickes, Arkansas. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wickes. Mr. Richardson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by one son, Albert Cleveland Richardson; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Phillips Richardson; five grandsons, Rickey Richardson and his wife Jackie, Lonnie Richardson, Albert Richardson, Randy Thorson and wife Cindy, and Robert Thorson and wife Rhonda; one granddaughter, Debra Walker and her husband David; seven great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Old Methodist Church building in Wickes, Arkansas. Interment will follow in the Baker cemetery in Wickes under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Visitation with family will be Sunday, February 27, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Geddy Alexander Mathis
Geddy Alexander Mathis, age 65, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at his home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1939 in Avery, Tex.; was a United States Navy veteran; retired after 35 years as an electrician; and ran a restaurant in Idabel, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Geddy Henry Mathis.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bertha L. Mathis of De Queen; his children, Geddy Mathis of Las Vegas, Nev., Alex Mathis of Horatio, Terri Haubner of De Queen, and Mark Mathis of Little Rock; his mother, Opal Alexander of De Queen; one sister, Sylvia Mathis of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Hall officiating. Burial followed in Canfield cemetery near Idabel, Okla.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the funeral home and afterwards at the home of Alex Mathis, 1590 Hwy. 24 in Horatio.
