Vernon Dale Morris
Vernon Dale Morris, age 70, resident of Golden, Okla., died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at his home.
He was born Jan. 1, 1935 at Gillham to Robert “Hub” Nathan and Louisia Ward Morris; was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; a retired diesel mechanic; and a member of United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Allen Keith Morris in 2004; three nieces and two nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Laurel Ellen Magness Morris of Golden, Okla.; four sons, Dewayne Morris of De Queen, Kenneth Morris of Idabel, Okla., Matthew Morris of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Curtis Morris of Broken Bow, Okla.; one stepson, John Daniel Frank of Milwaukee, Wisc.; two stepdaughters, Karen Ann Frunk of Australia and Betty Sue Frunk of Little Rock; three brothers, Bobby Gene Morris of Hughes Springs, Tex., Milton Morris and James Carl Morris, both of Gillham; two sisters, Joyce L. Hammer of De Queen and Judy Carolyn Mills of Gillham; three grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen. Burial followed in Overturf cemetery at Gillham.
Carol J. Haynes
Mrs. Carol J. Haynes, age 69, resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at her home.
She was born June 5, 1935 in Takoma Park, Md.; was a dietary aid; and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin E. and Clara DeGraw Russell.
She is survived by her husband, Terence H. Haynes; one daughter, Maureen Burrow of De Queen; one sister, Yvonne Frye of Deltona, Fla.; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18 in Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Tommy Blount officiating. Burial will follow in Beacon Hill cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 at the funeral home.
Marvin Gambill Jr.
Marvin Gambill Jr., age 61, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 in Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.
He was born Jan. 6, 1944 in Memphis, Tenn.; was a customer service specialist for Mapco express; a valued employee for singer Elvis Presley; a prominent member of the “Memphis Mafia”; and a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Brewer Gambill and Norma Crenshaw Gambill Kyle; and a brother, Michael Gambill.
He is survived by a son, Jimmy Gambill of Memphis; a daughter, Deena Mokry of Olive Branch, Miss.; a sister, Sandra Roberts of Camas, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Henrietta Monroe
Henrietta Sullivan Monroe, age 88, resident of Horatio, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.
She was Jan. 14, 1917 in Wickes; was a homemaker; a Holiness Evangelist; and a member of Old Center Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maude Lee Brantley Sullivan; her husband, Joe Monroe on Feb. 14, 1987; three brothers, Lee, Amos and Thomas; and five sisters, Florence, Nova, Lillie, Ruby and Edna.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 in Old Center Holiness Church with Sam Hendricks officiating. Burial followed in Old Center cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 at the funeral home.
Floyd Henderson Richardson
Floyd Henderson Richardson, age 93, of Clinton, formerly of Wickes, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in Clinton.
He was born September 13, 1911 in Manchester, Tennessee to the late George C. Richardson and the late Novella C. Parker Richardson. Mr. Richardson was attending Clinton Church of the Nazarene in Clinton, Arkansas and he was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wickes, Arkansas. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wickes. Mr. Richardson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by one son, Albert Cleveland Richardson; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Phillips Richardson; five grandsons, Rickey Richardson and his wife Jackie, Lonnie Richardson, Albert Richardson, Randy Thorson and wife Cindy, and Robert Thorson and wife Rhonda; one granddaughter, Debra Walker and her husband David; seven great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Old Methodist Church building in Wickes, Arkansas. Interment will follow in the Baker cemetery in Wickes under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Visitation with family will be Sunday, February 27, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Jennie Mae Calkins
Jennie Mae St. John Calkins, age 83, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 14, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Mich.; was a homemaker; and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Calkins; and her parents, Skyler and Nellie St. John.
She is survived by two daughters, Billie Jean Earl of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Suzanne Maurer of De Queen; three sisters, Elizabeth Makin of Grandhaven, Mich., Doris Nuville of Spring Lake, Mich., and Connie Rios of San Francisco, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Troy Wiles Dossett
Troy Wiles Dossett, age 69, resident of Texarkana, Tex., and formerly of Winthrop, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Healthcare System in Texarkana.
He was born Sept. 22, 1935 in Winthrop to Joel M. and Emmie Sybil Dossett; was retired from the U.S. Air Force; and a member of First United Methodist Church in Winthrop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cody Dossett, on Feb. 6, 1996.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry M. Dossett of Memphis, Tenn., James E. Dossett of Cabot and Edward A. Dossett of Columbia, SC; three brothers, Madison “Bub” Dossett of De Queen, Winston Dossett of Winthrop and Sherdon Dossett of Mena; three sisters, Fern Green of Foreman, Hilda Hallisey of Texarkana, Tex., and Lavette Arendorf of Lakewood, Colo.; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 in Campground cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Javier Arias Vasquez
Javier Arias Vasquez, age 35, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 from injuries received in an automobile accident at Lockesburg.
He was born Feb. 8, 1970 in Tabasco, Mexico to Ciriaco Arias and Margarita Vasquez Jimenez; was a Catholic; and worked in tree plantations.
Besides his parents he is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Vasquez and a son, Carolos, both of Mexico; and one brother, Zebedco Vasquez of Center, Tex.
Burial will be in Mexico under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
