Floyd Edgar Staggs

Floyd Edgar Staggs, age 70, resident of Dalby Springs, Tex., died Thursday, April 7, 2005.

He was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Horatio to George and Mamie Chandler Staggs; was a retired minister; a retired carpenter from Red River Army Depot; and a member of the Church of God of New Boston, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Victoria E. Smithey; and a niece, DaRenda Staggs.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Staggs; four children, Vada, Wayne, Paul and Carol; four stepchildren, Ann, Janise Debbie and Dennis; one sister, Evelyn Archer of Ardmore, Okla.; three brothers, Ralph Staggs of Horatio, Donald Staggs of Miami, Okla., and Ernest Staggs of De Queen; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11 in the Church of God at New Boston with Rev. Charles Wylie officiating. Graveside services followed at 2 p.m. in Old Center cemetery, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family received friends Sunday, April 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Annie Marie Rice

Annie Marie Parks Rice, age 77, resident of Crossett, and formerly of Little River County, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.

She was born July 29, 1927 in Tom, Okla., to Oliver P. and Martha Ann Wicker Parks; was a member of Little River Country Club for 15 years; a homemaker; and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Calvin Rice; a daughter, Linda Gale Rice; one sister and four brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey Rice Jr. of Crossett; three sons, David Rice and Jerry Rice, both of Crossett, and Randy Rice of Milo; one daughter, Elaine Barnstable of De Queen; four brothers, Jim Parks of Winthrop, O.J. Parks of Parks, Virgil Parks of Utah, and Bruce Parks of Texas; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at the Church of Christ with Mark Mosher and Brent Hutsell officiating. Interment followed in Carlock cemetery, under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 11 at the funeral home.

Selma Jean Lites

Mrs. Selma Jean Lites, age 79, resident of Dierks, died Monday, April 11, 2005 in Wadley Regional Medical Center at Texarkana.

She was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Dierks to Grover and Annise Scoggin Sivley; was a retired employee of Owl Drug Store in Dierks; and a member of Dierks Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell E. Lites on Dec. 18, 2004.

She is survived by one son, Steve Lites; one brother, O.V. Sivley of St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14 in Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae, minister, officiating. Burial followed in Dierks cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 at the funeral home in Dierks.

Thurman Haney

Thurman Haney, age 74, a resident of Lockesburg, Ark., died Friday, April 29, 2005 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Robert and Gracie Burns Haney at Lockesburg on March 21, 1931.

He was a retired employee of Weyerhaeuser Company and a member of the New View Church of Christ at Center Point.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Vaughn Haney of Lockesburg; five sons, Thurman Haney, Jr. and Robert Haney, both of Nashville, Les E. Haney of Ashdown, Rodrick Haney and Marcus Haney, both of Lockesburg; five daughters, Barbara Bailey, Sherry Hunter and Lavonna Haney, all of Lockesburg, Patricia Ramsey of Mineral Springs, and Teresa Dangerfield of Nashville; one sister, Daisy Deloney of Texarkana; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 7 in the New View Church of Christ at Center Point with Joe Lasker, Minister officiating. Burial followed in the Sand Field Cemtery, Lockesburg, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Viewing was Friday, May 6 at the funeral home.

Dorothy Vera Jackson

Dorothy Vera Coffey Jackson, age 92, resident of Dierks, died Friday, May 6, 2005 in Dierks Nursing Center.

She was born Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1912 to Crater and Goldia Coffee of King.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Seidal Jerome Jackson on July 27, 1989; two sisters, Al Faye Frachiseur and Vernona Hargis Gibbons; and one brother, Urstin Coffey.

She is survived by four sons, Theral Jackson of Hope, Roland Jackson and Travis Jackson, both of Saratoga, and Larry Jackson of Dierks; two daughters, Dottie Dillard of Prescott and Roma Dell Jackson of Dierks; two sisters, Ima Kitchens Prather of Dierks and Melba Dockins of De Queen; one brother, Burley Coffee of Lake Village; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8 in the Community of Christ Church in Dierks. Burial followed in Hickory Grove cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 7 in the Chapel at Dierks. After the service, the family will be receiving friends at the home of Dorothy Jackson.

Paul Edward Butler

Paul Edward Butler, age 77, resident of Nashville, died Sunday, May 2, 2005 in a local hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1927 in Horatio to the late J.B. and Ollie Brookshire Butler; was a retired poultry and cattle farmer; and an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bobbie Dowdle Butler of Nashville; three sons, Mark Butler and Terry Butler, both of Nashville, and Joey Butler of Texarkana; two daughters, Paula Givens of Nesbit, Ore., and Becky Ray of Nashville; two sisters, Ruby Sizemore of Tigard, Ore., and Daisy Anderson of Illinois; one brother, Horace Butler of Conway; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 3 in Belleville cemetery near Lockesburg with Lynn McClure officiating, under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 2 at the funeral home.

Ethel Lea Fagan

Mrs. Ethel Lea Fagan, age 84, a resident of Dierks, AR, died Saturday, April 23, 2005 in the Dierks Nursing Center.

She was born July 16, 1920 in Dierks to James Daniel and Mary Purcell Kesterson. She was a homemaker and a Free Holiness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Edgar Fagan; ;an adopted son, Roy Alfred Fagan; a stillborn son, James Edgar Fagan; and her siblings, Lona Mae Cox, Ola Blanton, Fred Kesterson and Luther Kesterson.

She is survived by a daughter, Mae Ferguson of Dierks; her grandchildren, Danny Henthorne of Dierks, Boyd Ferguson and wife Linda of Idabel, OK, Tony Ferguson of Grants, N.M. and Karen Dickerson of Dierks; her great-grandchildren, Steven, Daniel, Corey and Terrie Lynn; and a special friend, Horace Burgess.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fagan will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2005 in the Greens Chapel Methodist Church with Jerry Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Greens Chapel cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at the Dierks Chapel.
