Maria Saldivar

Maria DeJesus Saldivar, age 51, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 in the Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana.

She was born March 12, 1955 in Reynosa, Mexico to Martin Sanchez and Juana Estrada and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Carlos Saldivar of De Queen; four sons, Carlos Saldivar Jr. of Nashville, Ezquiel Saldivar, Victor Saldivar, and Oziel Saldivar, all of De Queen; four daughters, Patricia Camacho, Esmeralda Contreras, Claudia Saldivar and Janie Saldivar, all of De Queen; 16 grandchildren and a number of brother, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Augustin Tena officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery.

Charles E. Pitts

Charles Edward Pitts, age 70, a resident of Winthrop, died Sunday, April 30, 2006 in Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.

He was born April 29, 1936 in Fifty Six to Dicky Richard and Myrtle Teague Pitts and he was a logger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ernest Pitts; a sister, Kay Pitts and a grandson, Charlie Dickerson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Verna Mae Lockeby Pitts of Winthrop; two sons, Charles Richard Pitts of New Boston, Texas and Michael Edward Pitts of Foreman; three daughters, Cathy Diane Dickerson of Crossroads, Phyllis Ann Stuth of Whitehouse, Texas and Lisa Jean Magby of Foreman; one brother, Gene Pitts of Hebner Springs; one sister, Evelyn Adams of Cabot; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday May 6 in the Blackland cemetery with Audie Dawson, minister officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Durah B. Holder

Mrs. Durah Belle "Roxie" Jackson Holder, age 88, a resident of Dierks, died Thursday, April 25, 2006 at her home.

She was born April 11, 1918 in Howard County to Claude and Pearl Kitchens Jackson; a farmer, a homemaker, was a member of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Finis Holder on July 17, 1997.

She is survived by one sister, Oca Mae Vancil of Dierks and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28 in the Hickory Grove cemetery with Rev. Garry Wiles and Elder Granville Arnold officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 27, at the funeral home in Dierks.

Donald Ray Priest

Donald Ray Priest, age 55, a resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 in Clinton, Okla.

He was born Oct. 23, 1950 in Centerpoint to Fred C. “Bunk” Priest Jr. and Zella Mae Parker Priest, was a truck driver for Millwood Trucking and a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Glenn Priest.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Trusley Priest; his children, Joey Priest, Donavon Trusley, and Donna Welker, all of Lockesburg; his mother, Zella Mae Parker Priest of Dierks; three sisters, Kathy Ferguson of Dierks, Inez Frachiseur of Grannis, and Teresa McCloud also of Dierks and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 27 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.W. Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in the Brownstown cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 26 at the funeral home.

Minor Millwee

Mr. Minor Luther Millwee, age 88, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born May 10, 1917 in Horatio to Robert Luther and Floy Poole Millwee. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was in the Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was a retired mail carrier, a charter member of the De Queen Lions Club for 55 years and was a past president, a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship award, a Justice of the Peace for 22 years, and a World War II Army-Air Force veteran.

Mr. Millwee was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Jim Latimer Millwee on March 22, 2006, and one daughter, Melanie Millwee Lignitz.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Kathy Millwee; four grandchildren, Jeremy Lignitz of McKinleyville, Calif., Meisha Leeper of Royse City, Texas, Marcus Millwee of Double Oaks, Texas and Sterling Harris of De Queen; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Millwee were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker and Rev. Dr. Rockey Starnes officiating. Burial followed in the Millwee cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in De Queen or the De Queen Lions Club.

Rodney Herbert Vann

Rodney Herbert Vann, age 45, a resident of Ashdown, died Friday, May 19, 2006 in Artesia, N.M.

He was born Jan. 29, 1961 in Hobbs, N.M. to Roy and Billie Freeman Vann, was a truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Ann Booth Vann; two sons, Jesse Vann of De Queen and Joshua Vann of Ashdown; two step-daughters, Brandy Flowers and Kimberly Cole both of Hope; three brothers, Riley Vann of Artesia, N.M., Dudley Vann of Tyler, Texas and Randy Vann of Waldron; his father and step-mother, Roy Sr. and June Vann of Tyler, Texas; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 25 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with David Jacobs, minister, officiating. Cremation followed.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 24 at the funeral home.

Guadalupe G. Espinoza

Mrs. Guadalupe Gutierrez Espinoza, age 55, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, April 21, 2006 at her home.

She was born to Lucas Espinoza and Maria Celia Gutierrez Garcia in Moroleon, Guanjuato, Mexico, was a former employee of Pilgrim's Pride and a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dionicio A. Lopez of De Queen; three sons, Arturo Llanito Espinoza, Eduardo Llanito Espinoza of Georgia and Richard Espinoza Lopez of De Queen; one daughter, Angelica Llanito Espinoza of Comonfort, Mexico; five brothers, Jose Luis Gutierrez Espinoza, Victor Gutierrez Espinoza, Lucas Gutierrez Espinoza, Sabino Gutierrez Espinoza, and Fernando Gutierrez Espinoza all of Comonfort, Mexico; three sisters, Jakelina Gutierrez Espinoza, Maria de los Angeles Gutierrez Espinoza, and Juana Gutierrez Espinoza all of Comonfort, Mexico and nine grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 22 in St. Barbara's Catholic Church with Father Salvador Marquez officiating. Burial will be in the Panteon Municipal cemetery, Comonfort, Mexico.

Ona McCandless

Mrs. Ona DeWanda McCandless, age 75, a resident of Foreman, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 in the Little River Nursing Home in Ashdown.

She was born June 28, 1930 in the Miller Community to Onus and Pauline Johnson Broomfield, was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Foreman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.G. McCandless, on Oct. 2, 2005 and a great-grandson, Gabriel Neal McCandless.

She is survived by three sons, Leary McCandless, Herb McCandless, and Roger McCandless, all of Foreman; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a niece.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 26 in the Foreman First Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Woods officiating. Burial followed in the Campground cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
