Bob Hitch
Robert Aaron Hitch, age 59, a resident of Lake Dallas, Texas died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 in the Vintage Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 1, 1946 in Odessa, Texas to George Nelson and Lorraine Watkins Hitch, was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army, and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived his wife, Lille Kay Smith Hitch of Lake Dallas, Texas; two sons, George Hitch and David Hitch, both of Lake Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Robbie Granado and Alicia Hitch, both of Lake Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Virgil Hitch and Jackie Franks, both of Gillham; one sister, Ada Poland of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 6 in the First Baptist Church of Gillham with Rev. Bob McManus officiating. Burial followed with Military Honors in the Gillham cemetery.
Richard Riesch
Richard Bernard Riesch, age 66, a resident of Umpire, died Saturday, May 13, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born Sept. 21, 1939 in Hartford, Wisc. to Leroy and Lucille Lischka Riesch and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Evon Firsich Riesch of Umpire; four sons, Pat Riesch of Calif., Chris Riesch of Ore., Ron Riesch and Toy Riesch both of Calif.; three daughters, Cindy Lindenbery of Montana, Pam Duescher of Calif. and Teresa Davidson of Ore.; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are pending and will be announced later by Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Vernon L. Reynolds
Vernon Leslie Reynolds, age 94, a resident of Horatio, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born June 26, 1911 in Adkins to Joseph and Addie Mae Lamaster Reynolds, was a welder for Intercontinental in Garland, Texas and a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Hazel Oleeta Young Reynolds, Ruth Armer Reynolds, Macy Katherine Reynolds and Ida Green Reynolds.
He is survived by one son, Billy Charles Reynolds of Horatio; one daughter, Virginia Slater of Arizona and a number of step-children, nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 23 in the Avon cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Jacqueline V. Tanner
Jacqueline V. Tanner, age 79, a resident of De Queen, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Denison, Texas to Clarence R. and Anna Lou "Dutchy" Kelley Tanner, attended Technical High School in Ft. Worth, Texas, graduated with honors from the Texas Wesleyan University; was a retired teller-supervisor from First National Bank of Ft. Worth; former member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Foreman.
She is survived by one sister, Partricia Briant and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 3 in the Redmen cemetery with Father Norman Amps officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Roddy Jack Smith, Sr.
Mr. Roddy Jack "Shorty" Smith, Sr., age 68, a resident of Ashdown, Ark.. died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Texarkana, Texas.
He was born July 25, 1937 in Pittsburg, Texas. He was a Baptist and member of Central Baptist Church in Ashdown, Ark.
He is survived by his wife, Kerry Smith, Ashdown, Ark.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roddy and Tammy Smith, Jr. of Dierks, Ark. and Ronnie and Connie Smith of Ben Lomond, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Roy Chriestenson of Ashdown, Ark.; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Ruth Smith of Little Rock, Ark.; Grandchildren, Roddy J. Smith, III and Tiffany Rehkopf of Ashdown, Ark., Ron and Russell Smith of Ben Lomond, Ark., Amanda "Toolie" Chriestenson of Ashdown, Ark., Kesha and Grandson-in-law Jason Stapp of Dierks, Ark., Kyle and Koree Jones of Dierks, Ark.; Great-grandchildren; Jack Austin Smith of Ashdown, Ark., Marlee and Karley Stapp of Dierks, Ark. Special family: Ronnie and Carla Alexander and Jake and Brittany Alexander of Ashdown, Ark., Vic, Debbie, Cody and Abby McKinney of Leary, Texas and a host of friends. Mr. Smith was an avid fan of Ashdown sports. He was a member of the Table of Knowledge at Mac's Cafe.
Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Madden Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2006 in the Central Baptist Church in Ashdown, Ark. Rev. Tommy Hall and Rev. Tommy Guthrie (Assistant) officiated. Burial followed in Ashdown Memorial Gardens in Ashdown, Ark.
Effie J. Bailey
Effie J. Bailey, age 74, a resident of Cove, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at her home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1931 in Shady to Jospeh Daniel and Effie Cordelia Lawrence Whisenhunt and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Jeanette Bailey and Laura Bailey; one brother, Joseph Whisenhunt and a grandson, Taylor Davis.
She is survived by her husband, W.C. Bailey of Cove; three daughters, Jo Ann Anderson of Hatfield, Patricia Woods of Cove and Judy Smith of De Queen; a brother, Ray Whisenhunt of Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Muriel Hendrix of Shady and Gertrude Cox of Mena; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cove with Bro. Ron Ladd officiating. Burial followed in Shady cemetery, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
The family received friends at the funeral home Monday, May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Fletcher Montgomery
Fletcher Elbert Montgomery, age 80, a resident of Dierks died, Saturday, April 29, 2006 in De Queen.
He was born June 20, 1925 in Dierks to Elbert and Irene "Lady" Clay Montgomery, was a small engine mechanic, retired Weyerhaeuser supervisor, a Mason, a Navy World War II veteran where he served as a Seabee, and was a Christian.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Inez Bryan Montgomery of Dierks; three sons, Jerry Montgomery of Germany, Larry McRae of De Queen, and Jimmy McRae of Hot Springs; three daughters, Brenda Smith of Okemah, Okla., Nina Rodgers of Dierks and Patricia Lingo of Nashville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 5 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. Bobby Neal officiating.
Oneal “Okie” Bowers
Oneal Ross “Okie” Bowers, age 48, a resident of De Queen, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 in the St. Josephs Hospital in Hot Springs.
He was born Jan. 4, 1958 in De Queen to Virgie and Willie Bell Nelson Bowers; worked for Pilgrim’s Pride and was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Helen Marie Bowers and one granddaughter, Jaded Pruitt.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Watson Bowers; five daughters, Brandy Bowers, Leslie Daniels, Jackie Pruitt, Shanna House and Felicia House; his mother, Willie Bowers; four brothers, Freddy Bowers and Virgie Bowers, all of De Queen, Tim “T.P.” Bowers of Colorado Springs, CO., and Michael Ross of Decatur, AL.; three sisters, Nora Rowe, Nada Bowers, and Joyce Bowers Mitchell, all of De Queen and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 27 in the New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Jessie Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
