Phillip Gene Vann

Phillip Gene Vann, age 59, resident of Gillham, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005 at his home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1945 in De Queen to Isaac Coleman and Georgia Alene Bird Vann; was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict; and a retired logger. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sue Vann.

He is survived by his wife, Oma Faye Ensey Vann of Gillham; one daughter, Denise Sparks of Grannis; three brothers, Dale Vann and Donnie Vann, both of Gillham, and Eddie Vann of Lake of the Pines, Tex.; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 in Gillham cemetery with Bro. Homer Frachiseur officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

James Robert Payne

James Robert Payne, age 88, resident of Horatio, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 12, 1917 in Horatio to A.Z. and Belle McKinney Payne; was a U.S. Navy veteran; retired from American National Insurance Company; and a member of First Baptist Church of Horatio.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lucerne Payne; and a number of cousins.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19 in Horatio cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ernestine Marie Rogers Greenlee

Mrs. Ernestine Marie Rogers Greenlee, age 87, resident of the Oak Grove Community at Lockesburg, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Health System.

She was born Sept. 14, 1918 at Horatio to Frank and Mary McDonald Rogers; was a retired employee of Mountaire Poultry; a homemaker; and a member of New Zion Baptist Church at Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by two sons, James Greenlee Sr. and Henry Greenlee; and her husband, Jake Greenlee in 1979.

She is survived by four sons, Ernest Greenlee and Jake Greenlee Jr., both of Lockesburg, Delmar Greenlee and Samuel Greenlee, both of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Nora Favors of Grandview, Mo., and Alice Mitchell of California; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 in New Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove Community, Lockesburg. Burial will follow in Sunset Acres, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 at the funeral home.

Edna Bernice “Bernie” Brinkley

Edna Bernice “Bernie” Brinkley, age 80, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005 at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.

She was born Aug. 22, 1925 in Gillham to Boone and Edna VanZandt Hobson; was the former owner and operator of Gillham Country Store; was retired from Wal-Mart; and was a member of United Methodist Church of Gillham and the Order of the Eastern Star at Gillham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Daniel “J.D.” Brinkley on May 18, 1973; two sons, James Brinkley and Kevin Brinkley; and a stepson, Jesse Wayne Brinkley.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Frachiseur of Grannis and Tina Brantley of De Queen; a brother, Preston Hobson; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Frachiseur officiating. Burial followed in Gillham cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 at the funeral home.

Blanche I. Willoughby

Blanche Irene Willoughby, age 84, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born April 28, 1921 in De Queen to Henry Mac and Gracie Augusta Miller Craig, was a homemaker and a member of the Union Community Church.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred Willoughby of De Queen; one daughter, Barbara Trecek of Peoria, Ill.; one son, Alfred Willoughby Jr. of De Queen; one brother, Clovis Craig of De Queen; three sisters, Jewel Grant of Shreveport, La., Helen Long and Lucille Whitley, both of De Queen; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Trecek officiating. Burial followed in the Chapel Hill cemetery.

Viewing was held Monday, March 20, from 12-9 p.m. at the funeral home and the family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Norma Ruth Kitchens

Mrs. Norma Ruth Smith Kitchens, age 82, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana.

She was born May 11, 1923 in Broken Bow, Okla. to Maynard and Berta Wright Smith. She was a retired poultry farmer, welder at a U.S. Navy Shipyard during World War II, and a member of the Burg Church of Christ and Umpire Quilting Club.

Mrs. Kitchens was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ovey Kitchens on October 23, 1995.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Donnie Murphy of Texarkana, Ark. and Anita and Mike Brock of Dierks; four sisters, Clydean Jackson, Verba Lee Birge and Joy Simmons, all of De Queen and Marian Bailey of Springdale, Ark.; two brothers, Hal Smith and Maynard Dexter Smith both of Kelso, Wash.; four grandchildren, Terri Murphy Crook of Conway, Ark., Brian Murphy of Texarkana, Ark., Eric Brock of Haskell, Ark. and Paul Brock of Russellville, Ark.; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kitchens were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2006 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Johnny Arnold and Richard Sexton officiating. Burial followed in the Burg cemetery.

Joshua Elvin Tadlock

Joshua Elvin Tadlock, infant son of Josh and Amy Tadlock of De Queen, was born Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana.

He is survived by three sisters, Kylie, Jacie, and Landrie; his maternal grandparents Mitchell and Laurie Tidwell of Wickes and Allan and Denise Gentry of De Queen; maternal great-grandparents, Harvey and Roxy Stephens and Albert and Anita Jean Gentry of De Queen, maternal great-great-grandfather, Jesse Johnson of De Queen; his paternal grandparents, Paul and Melinda Tadlock of Wickes; Paternal great-grandparents, Jan and the late Elvin Tadlock of Grannis and Joe and Christine Kesterson of Wickes; paternal great-great-grandmothers, Deneva Marsh of Wickes and Ruth Roberts of De Queen; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 8 in the Oak Grove cemetery in Wickes with the Rev. Dr. Rockey Starnes officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Claude Burton Loftis

Claude Burton Loftis, age 89, a resident of Horatio, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the De Queen Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 1, 1916 in Horatio to Maggie Leona Cox Loftis, was a technician for Weyerhaeuser, a Navy veteran, and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elouise Marie Gill Loftis, three sisters and his mother.

He is survived by four daughters, Virginia Leona McCauley of Hurst, Texas, Vanita Loretta Foster of Ft. Worth, Texas, Vicky Lou Loftis of Seagoville, Texas, and Vonda Lee Johnson of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 8 in the Horatio cemetery with Bro. J.L. Walker officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 6 from 4 to 7 p.m.
