Myrtle Lee Lawler
Mrs. Myrtle Lee Fortune Lawler, age 91, a resident of Eagletown, Okla., died Friday, March 10, 2006 in the Dierks Nursing Center.
She was born August 3, 1914, at Kuli, Okla. to C.D. and Vinney Ward Fortune, and was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Jimmy James Fortune, David Dee Fortune, C.D. Fortune Jr., and J.W. Fortune; two sisters, Gertrude Vandiver and Tina Mae Dickerson, and her husband, Leonard Lee Lawler.
She is survived by two daughters, Ethel Geraldine Davis of Eagletown, Okla. and Opal Emzie Hughes of De Queen; three brothers, Roy Fortune of Broken Bow, Okla., Dale Warren of Poteau, Okla., and Big Boy Warren of Eufaula, Okla.; 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 14 in the Eagletown cemetery with Rev. J. L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family received friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 13th.
Juanita Roberts
Mrs. Juanita Willis Roberts, age 78, a resident of Horatio, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at her home.
She was born September 1, 1927 in Leola, Arkansas to Bill and Willie Calvin Short Willis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, R.C. Willis and two sisters, Mildred Irvan and Willie Mae Willis.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband, Ivy Roberts of Horatio; one son, Jim Roberts and wife Rita of Madison, Ala.; four sisters, Effie Stafford, Ruthie McCoy and Susie Willis, all of Horatio, and Laverne Willis of Stephenville, Texas; three brothers, Paul Willis, Billy Willis and Glen Willis, all of Horatio; one grandson, Wayne Roberts; one great-grandson, Jack Oliver Roberts; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Roberts were held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2006 in the Clear Creek cemetery with the Rev. J.L. Walker and the Rev. Jimmy Roden officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 12, at the funeral home.
Rena Cook
Mrs. Rena Paul Gabbard Cook, age 84, a resident of Horatio, died Friday, March 17 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 23, 1922 in Winthrop and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lewis Cook on Dec. 22, 1989.
She is survived by one brother, Tab Gabbard of Horatio and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18 in the Horatio cemetery with Rev. Fred Smith officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Oliver Deer
Oliver Porter "Sonny" Deer, age 66, a resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in Longview, Texas.
He was born Sept. 16, 1939 in Boles to Otto and Mildred Deer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Deer; a daughter, Pamela Deer; three sons, Ronnie Deer, Danny Deer, and Donald Deer; a sister, Emma Lou Harris; and two brothers, Earl Deer and Larry Deer.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Deer of Lockesburg; three sons, Johnny Deer and Robbie Deer, both of Dierks and Bobby Herron of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, Brenda Ray of New Boston, Texas, Tina Lansdell of Winthrop, Kyla Herron of Lockesburg, Tammy Ward of Dallas, Texas, Deserae Deer of Lockesburg; four sisters, Mary Ward of Dierks, Glenda Conaster of Nashville, Diane Cox and Mary Jo Alexander, both of Dierks; two brothers, Ricky Deer of Murfreesboro and Tommy Deer of Dierks; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews;

Norman H. Crump Sr.
Norman Henry Crump Sr., age 62, a resident of Grannis, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 in De Queen.
He was born Feb. 15, 1944 in Huntington to Elmer Clarence and Roxie Emery Crump.
He is survived by one son, Norman Crump; one brother, John Crump of Brownfield, Texas; two sisters, Martha Hattabough of Missouri and Betty Collins of Brownfield, Texas; one grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 15 in the Grannis cemetery with Rev. Homer Frachiseur officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Allen Lee Thornell
Allen Lee Thornell, age 59, a resident of Pittsburg, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006.
He was born August 20, 1946 in Hot Springs to George and Lois Lawler Thornell, was a retired school superintendent, a member of the Blodgett Church of Christ, Rotary Club, a Mason, and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Toileson Thornell of Pittsburg; one daughter, Jennifer Erwin of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; one brother, George A. Thornell of Hot Springs; a sister, Mary Ann Thronell, of Hot Springs, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 4 in the Dierks Church of Christ with Bro. Larry Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Dierks cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Viewing was held from 12:20-1:30 p.m., before the service on Saturday.
Oma Lindsey McDowell
Oma Levenia Lindsey McDowell, age 65, a resident of De Queen, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 in Hot Springs.
She was born April 28, 1940 in Camden to Alan and Eunice Walker Lindsey, was a school teacher and a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jessie McDowell of De Queen; two sons, Rick Joplin of Horatio and Thomas Joplin of Honduras; two daughters, Ebbie Gliddon of Wills Point, Texas and Deanna McDowell of Hot Springs; one brother, Mike Lindsey of Magnolia; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 14 in the Millwee cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Robert D. Romine
Robert D. Romine, age 72, a resident of Horatio, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Health System.
He was born June 23, 1933 in Horatio to Virgil T. and Rosa Lee Lazrus Romine, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, serving in the U. S. Navy for 30 years, was retired from the Red River Army Depot, and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Pauline Bradshaw.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Eleanor Irene Merchant Romine of Horatio; two sons, Robert Dean Romine of Chesterfield, Mo. and Roger Dennis Romine of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Shari Lee Webster of Tulsa, Okla. and Sara Lynn Anderson of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Virgil Romine of Idabel, Okla.; one sister, Cora Frances Vetterick of Wimberly, Texas; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Cremation was under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
