Vetra L. Faulkner
Mrs. Vetra Lucille Staggs Faulkner, age 85, a resident of Dierks, died Friday, May 5, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center, Texarkana.
She was born Sept. 6, 1920 in the Sardis Community to Henry and Kate Staggs and was a member of the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Addie Faulkner, on Jan. 12, 2003.
She is survived by a daughter, Louise Goodson of Texarkana, Texas; a brother, Doyle Staggs of Lockesburg; a sister, Mary Jane Goode of De Queen; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks with Rev. Bill Driggers and Rev. Larry Allbritton officiating. Burial followed in the McHorse cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family received friends from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 7 at the Dierks Chapel.
George Brown
Mr. George E. Brown, age 82, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.
He was born to Willie B. and Texana "Annie" Privett Brown at Horatio, Arkansas, on April 9, 1924. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the 88th Infantry Division. He was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ, and was retired form the U.S. Postal Service. He and his wife, Irene, also owned and operated the Chapel Hill Grocery for many years. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, fishing, camping, and growing blueberries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and in Oct. of 2001, his wife of over 55 years, Irene Williams Brown.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Neeley of Tulsa, Okla.; Deborah Tollett of Hershey, Penn. and Rhonda and John Wilson of Cameron, Texas; six grandchildren, Johnny and Amber Tollett, Conan and Jennifer Tollett, Josh and Susan Tollett, Zack and Sherna Neeley, Abbie and J.P. McFarland, and Cole Wilson; nine great-grandchildren, one stepbrother, Ralph Bizzell of Colorado; one stepsister, Pearl Beville of Dierks, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. George Brown were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2006 in the De Queen Church of Christ. Burial followed in the Chapel Hill cemetery, De Queen, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family received friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2006.
Avis Ruth Sackett Wall
Mrs. Avis Ruth Sackett Wall, age 79, a resident of Horatio, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at her home.
She was born May 9, 1926 in Winthrop, Arkansas to Charles S. and Kate Armstreet Sackett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Wall was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Wall on January 17, 2004; and one son, Eddie Wall.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Charla and David Conatser of Horatio; two grandchildren, David Nicholas Conatser of Horatio and Katy Conatser of Round Rock, Texas; one brother-in-law, Marvin Wall and his wife, Frances; three sisters-in-law, Vivian Wall of De Queen, Margaret Wall of Lockesburg, and Claryce Wall of Haworth, Okla.
A memorial service for Mrs. Wall was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006 in the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Byron Sullivan and John Hickel officiating.
Milton W. Epps
Milton W. Epps, age 59, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born May 8, 1946 in Gainsville, Texas to Lester Milton and Dorothy Winstead Epps, he was a veteran during the Vietnam Conflict, and an employee of Engineered Products, and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Alan Wayne Parker, in August of 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Elaine Parker Epps of De Queen; one son, Ronald Brent of Gainsville, Texas; one daughter Wauneice Dewberry of De Queen; one sister, Doris Ann Boone of Gainsville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces of nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with President Gene Griffith officiating.
Graveside funeral services followed in Denton, Texas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Lester Sample
Lester Sample, age 90, a resident of De Queen, formerly of Nimmons died, Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006 at his home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1916 in Kennett, MO. to Hider Dave and Zona Mathis Sample.
He is preceded in death by his wife, May Sample in 2003; two sisters, Ruth Risener and Deloris Hasting.
He is survived by two daughters, Katherine Langlois of De Queen and Veda Strait of Hot Springs; four brothers, Delbert Sample and H.D. Sample of Nimmons, Buford Sample of Yucaipa, Calif. and Dave C. Sample of Victorville, Calif.; one sister Ione Redman of Piggott; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel. Burial followed in the Piggott cemetery under the direction of Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home.
Samantha Morales Mendez
Samantha Morales Mendez, age 5, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006.
She was born Sept. 12, 2000 in Manhattan, New York to Paula E. Mendez and Arturo Morales.
She is survived by her parents.
A funeral mass was held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2 in the St. Barbara Catholic Church Parish Center with Father Salvador Marquez-Munoz officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial will be in New York.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time, Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Parish Center.

Alvis DeWayne Eastwood
Mr. Alvis DeWayne Eastwood, age 76, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born February 26, 1929 in Dierks, Arkansas to Ambrose Hiram and Georgia Harris Eastwood. He was a retired barber, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict, and a member of the De Queen Church of Christ.
Mr. Eastwood is survived by his wife, Annette Eastwood; one son, Allen Eastwood of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Robert Bray of Dierks; two grandchildren, Adriana Hogg and her husband, Andy, and Tiffini Bray, all of Dierks; and one great-grandson, Brayden Kirby.
Funeral services for Mr. Eastwood were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2006 in the De Queen Church of Christ with Van Ledbetter and James McRae, officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, at the funeral home.
