Lester A. Pennington
Lester A. Pennington, age 56, a resident of Dierks, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 in the Pike Co. Memorial Hospital in Murfreesboro.
He was born Dec. 17, 1949 in Clarendon to Herbert and Etha Mae (Shaw) Pennington, was an employee of L & J Mechanical.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Pennington of Dierks; his children, Vickie Chambers and Lester Pennington, Jr. both of Nashville, Connie Wilkerson of Hot Springs, Randy Pennington of Dierks, Ricky Pennington of Kirby, Bryan Billings of Center Point, and Devonda Furr of Cave City; his mother, Etha Mae Pennington of Murfreesboro, three brothers, Joe Pennington and Bill Pennington both of Murfreesboro, and Bernie Pennington of Nathan; two sisters, Ester Scoggins of Murfreesboro and Tursie Hipp of Hope; 13 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. John Henry Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Galena cemetery in Umpire.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24 at the funeral home in Dierks.
Sylas LaShane Mason
Sylas LaShane Middleton Mason, infant son of Melinda Middleton and Zane Mason of Batesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 in Children’s Hospital at Little Rock.
He was born Jan. 28, 2006 at Batesville and weighed three pounds, six ounces.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Aubrey and Makenzie Mason; and grandparents, Steve Mason of Batesville and Pamela and Theron Bledsoe of Grannis.
Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 3 in Oaklawn cemetery at Batesville.
Harvey Burns
Daniel Harvey Burns, age 73, resident of Mena and former resident of Gillham, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006 in a Fort Smith Hospital.
He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in the Mineral Community to Robert Newton “Bob” and Ava Ward Burns, was an engineer for the D&E.T.O.;&E.; Railroad for 31 years, retiring in 1994, a member of the First Baptist Church of Gillham, and a member of the UTU Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Vaughn Burns; and a sister, Margaret Hope Vaught.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann Smith Burns of Mena; one son, Danny Joe Burns of Mena; two daughters, Ava Loucile Brannan of Valliant, Okla. and Tina Ann Weick of Nacagdoches, Texas; seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 18 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob McManus, and Rev. Jerry Hill officiating. Burial followed in the Mineral cemetery, Gillham.
Samuel Morales Mendez
Samuel Morales Mendez, age 5, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006.
He was born Sept. 12, 2000 in Manhattan, New York to Paula E. Mendez and Arturo Morales.
He is survived by his parents.
A funeral mass was held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2 in the St. Barbara Catholic Church Parish Center with Father Salvador Marquez-Munoz officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial was in New York.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time, Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Parish Center.

Raymond Kuykendall
Raymond “Bud” Kuykendall, age 76, a resident of Wickes, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 in Vandervoort.
He was born Dec. 23, 1929 in St. Louis, Okla. to the late Edgar J. Kuykendall and Monell Johnson Kuykendall, and was an auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Paul Kuykendall.
He is survived by his sons, Bobby Kuykendall of Vandervoort, Don Kuykendall of Horatio and Jerry Kuykendall of Vandervoort; one daughter, Joyce Groves of Grand Prairie, Texas; two brothers, Frank Kuykendall of Timeson, Texas, Floyd Kuykendall of Wickes; four sisters, Helen Brock of Mt. Enterprise, Texas, Margaret Brock of Watson, Okla., Stella Brewer of Wickes, and Marie Sneed of Wickes; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 4 at 2 p.m. in the Daniel cemetery with Bro. Donnie Jewell officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Robert Renfrow
Robert David Renfrow, age 66, a resident of Lockesburg, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana.
He was born Dec. 28, 1939 in Longview, Texas to William M. Sr. and Lorene Johanna Johle Renfrow, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg and a retired electrician with Hadaway Electrical in Texarkana as well as a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Arlene Young.
He is survived by his wife, of over 45 years, Laverne Dixson Renfrow of Lockesburg; one daughter, Janice Hickson of Lockesburg; three sisters, Betty Cox and Vivian Fears both of De Queen and Judy Ford of Garland, Texas; two brothers, Bill Renfrow of De Queen and Roger Renfrow of Texarkana; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 13 in the Lockesburg cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Doris Wilson Smith
Mrs. Doris B. Wilson Smith, age 74, a resident of Elberton, Ga., died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at her home, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on February 20, 1932 in Horatio, Arkansas. She was a homemaker, a retired school bus driver and a member of the Solid Rock Community Church in Calhoun Falls, SC.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Autry and Ressie Wilson; a brother, Jimmy Bay Wilson; her son, Bryant Smith Jr.; and a grandson, Kevin Garner.
She is survived by her husband, Bryant W. "Tex" Smith Sr.; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Billie Cooper of Bowersville, Ga., Sharon Self of Elberton, Ga., Barbara and David Pelt of Snellville, Ga., Debra and Ricky Dowling of Cumming, Ga.; one brother, Adie D. Wilson of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pauline Harrison, Ruth Wilson, and Linda Culp, all of De Queen, Ark., Marie and Tom Hendrix of El Dorado, Ark., and Glenda and Connie Swim of Kerrville, Texas; a special family friend, Earl Pettigrew of De Queen, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 27, 2006 in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel in Cumming, Ga. with the Rev. Jerry Dalton officiating. Burial was in Sawnee View Memorial Garden in Cumming, Ga.
