Edah Royalene Smith
Edah Royalene Edwards Smith, age 84, passed away Monday, March 20, 2006 in Shreveport, La.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 23, at Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, Ark. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2006 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rockey Starnes officiating. Burial followed at Redmen cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born on Sunday, August 28, 1921 in Lockesburg, Ark., one of three daughters to the late Leroy Russey Edwards and Lyda Luther Edwards. She was a longtime resident of De Queen, Ark. Her deep faith led her to be active with the United Methodist Women at the First United Methodist Church in De Queen. She was also active in the Paraclifta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In her lifetime, she was a realtor as well as a bookkeeper for W.D. Smith Truck Line, Inc. in De Queen. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her daughter, Linda Harris, who survives her today, along with her son-in-law John Harris, both of Haughton, La.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Teresa Lynn Hanselman of St. Louis, Mo., Joan Michelle "Mickey" Schoonover of Lake Saint Louis, Mo. and Michael John Harris of Shreveport, La.; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Norma Carter of Hatfield, Ark.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Odis Dale Smith, and two sisters, Mary Virginia Edwards and Fannie Lee Edwards.
Katie Andrews
Mrs. Katie Ella Kelly Andrews, age 85, a resident of Mena, formerly of De Queen, died March 26, 2006.
She was born Oct. 16, 1920 in Sims to Thomas Everett and Emley Foster Kelly, was retired from nursing at De Queen General Hospital and a member of the Anointed Faith Tabernacle of Mena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Birdie Kelly, Senie Kelly, Sallie Kelly, Susie Tabor, Maudie Harvey, and Vennie Litchford; a brother, J.O. Kelly and her husband, John Sherman Andrews in 1984.
She is survived by one daughter, Ella Keaster of El Dorado; one son, Johnny E. Andrews of Mena; one sister, Iris Harrell of Visalia, Calif.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 28th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. O.D. Hobbs and Rev. Nile White officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 27.
Enrique M. Torres
Enrique Marrufo Torres, infant son of Ernesto Pacheco and Maria Marrufo, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.
He is survived by his parents; one sister, Amanda Marrufo; two brothers, Leonel Marrufo and Eduardo Marrufo; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 14 in the Redmen cemetery with Rev. Salvador Marquez-Munoz officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Wesley Huddleston
Wesley Huddleston of Hope, Arkansas died Saturday, April 15th. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Benton and Esther Huddleston, and by his brother Fielding Huddleston. He is survived by his wife, Donald Sue; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael of Smyrna, Tennessee, David and Kim of Texarkana, Bruce and Vickie of Star City, and Bill and Tammy of De Queen; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers and their wives and one sister: Carroll and Louise of Magnolia, Reeder and Ronnie of Crawford, Texas, Paul and Nancy of Nash, Texas, and Sibyl Cass of Seattle, Washington.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. He was a local businessman and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hope. For 30 years he was a teacher and coach, being named Southwest Arkansas Coach of the Year in 1983, District 7A West Coach of the Year in 1984 and Southwest Arkansas Coach of the Year in 1985. Also in 1985 his Horatio team won the state Class A Championship.
Words that best describe Wesley Huddleston are those from his own coaching resume, "My philosophy is that through sports we can teach team discipline and self-discipline that will make winners out of young people on the field and in life. I believe that the discipline students get in our program will be a tremendous help in the school discipline. We start with developing good attitudes and then coaching and teaching can follow."
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Hope at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Tandy Hanson officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Herndon Funeral Home of Hope. Visitation was held Monday, April 17, 2006, 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., at Herndon Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Hope, Alzheimers Association, or the American Cancer Society.
Willie Jim Millwee
Mrs. Willie Jim Latimer Millwee, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in the De Queen Medical Center.
She was born April 21, 1927 in Lockesburg to Willie and Betty Latimer. She was a retired beautician, a member of the De Queen Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary, First United Methodist Church and Crusaders Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Millwee was preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Millwee Lignitz.
She is survived by her husband, Minor Millwee; one son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Kathy Millwee; one sister, Elizabeth Bartee of Bellingham, Washington; four grandchildren, Jeremy Lignitz of McKinleyville, California, Meisha Leeper of Royse City, Texas, Marcus Millwee of Double Oaks, Texas, and Sterling Harris of De Queen; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Millwee were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2006 in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rockey Starnes and the Rev. J. L. Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Millwee cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 24, at the funeral home.
The family was at the home of Marc and Kathy Millwee, 213 Pecan Meadows in De Queen.
Mrs. Louella Mae Spencer Lynch
Mrs. Louella Mae Spencer Lynch, age 83, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 at her home.
She was born Oct. 21, 1922 in Mountainaire, NM, to Charles and Edna Layman Spencer; was a homemaker; and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, David Lynch; two sons, James Lynch of Alameda, Calif., and David Lynch 11 of De Queen; one sister, Charlese Spencer of Albuquerque, NM, two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services are pending and will be announce at a later date by Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Rylie Madison Reeves
Rylie Madison Reeves, infant daughter of Lance and Lisa LaCaze Reeves of Fort Hood, Tex., died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005.
She was born Aug. 14, 2005 in Killeen, Tex.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents, George Michael and Pam Reeves of De Queen and Phillip and Shirley LaCaze of Flower Mound, Tex.; great-grandparents, Lawrence Bell of De Queen, Nadine Reeves of Heavener, Okla., and Joseph and Joyce LaCaze of New Orleans, La.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 in St. Phillip The Apostle Catholic Church in Lewisville, Tex. Interment followed in Flower Mound cemetery, under the direction of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville.
Visitation was from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21 at the funeral home.
Lois Agnes Chandler
Mrs. Lois Agnes Pool Chandler, age 91, resident of Hulbert, Okla., and formerly of Lockesburg, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005 in Ft. Gibson, Okla.
She was born July 30, 1914 at Lockesburg to David Finley and Mary Bertha Ford Pool; was a former employee of National Locke Company at Rockford, Ill.; a homemaker; and a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ed and David Pool; a sister, Rose Dawson; three grandchildren, Jay Chandler, Wes Chandler and Vicki Osborne; a daughter, Margaret Irene Brophy; and her husband, Jesse Chandler in 1997.
She is survived by four sons, John David Chandler of New Boston, Tex., Jesse Wayne Chandler and James Carl Chandler, both of De Queen, and Robert L. “Bob” Chandler of Foreman; three daughters, Jean Jennings of Blanchard, La., Barbara Bowlin of Hulbert, Okla., and Betty Wittenmeyer of De Queen; two sisters, Della Mae Cox of Kilgore, Tex., and Ina Bee Dominque of Longview, Tex.; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Henry Williams officiating. Burial followed in Belleville cemetery.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the funeral home.
